  • In this paper, we present an effective sound classification system for recognizing the real-time context of a smartphone user. Our system avoids unnecessary consumption of limited computational resource by filtering both silence and white noise out of input sound data in the pre-processing step. It also improves the classification performance on low energy-level sounds by amplifying them as pre-processing. Moreover, for efficient learning and application of HMM classification models, our system executes the dimension reduction and discretization on the feature vectors through k-means clustering. We collected a large amount of 8 different type sound data from daily life in a university research building and then conducted experiments using them. Through these experiments, our system showed high classification performance.

  • With innovative advances in wireless communication technology, many researches for extending network lifetime in maximum by using energy harvesting have been actively performed on the area of network resource optimization, QoS-guaranteed transmission, energy-intelligent routing and etc. As known well, it is very hard to guarantee end-to-end network delay due to uncertainty of the amount of harvested energy in multi-hop RF(radio frequency) energy harvesting wireless networks. To minimize end-to-end delay in multi-hop RF energy harvesting networks, this paper proposes an energy efficient routing metric based on interference aware and protocol which takes account of various delays caused by co-channel interference, energy harvesting time and queuing in a relay node. The proposed method maximizes end-to-end throughput by performing avoidance of packet congestion causing load unbalance, reduction of waiting time due to exhaustion of energy and restraint of delay time from co-channel interference. Finally simulation results using ns-3 simulator show that the proposed method outperforms existing methods in respect of throughput, end-to-end delay and energy consumption.

  • Mobile real-time systems with limited system resources and a limited power source need to fully utilize the system resources when the workload is heavy and reduce energy consumption when the workload is light. EDZL (Earliest Deadline until Zero Laxity), a multiprocessor real-time scheduling algorithm, can provide high system utilization, but little work has been done aimed at reducing its energy consumption. This paper tackles the problem of DVFS (Dynamic Voltage/Frequency Scaling) in EDZL scheduling. It proposes a technique to compute a uniform speed on full-chip DVFS platforms and individual speeds of tasks on per-core DVFS platforms. This technique, which is based on the EDZL schedulability test, is a simple but effective one for determining the speeds of tasks offline. We also show through simulation that the proposed technique is useful in reducing energy consumption.

  • The existing timeout based cache leakage management techniques reduce the leakage energy consumption of the cache significantly by switching off the power supply to the inactive cache line. Since these techniques were mainly proposed for single-processor systems, their efficiency is reduced significantly in multiprocessor systems with a shared L2 cache because of the cache interferences among simultaneously executing tasks. In this paper, we propose a novel cache partition strategy which partitions the shared L2 cache considering the inactive cycles of the cache line. Furthermore, we propose the adaptive task-aware timeout management technique which considers the characteristics of each task and adapts the timeout dynamically. Experimental results from the simulation show that the proposed technique reduces the leakage energy consumption of the shared L2 cache by 73% for the 2-way CMP and 56% for the 4-way CMP on average compared to the existing representative leakage management technique, respectively.

  • The Press related Energy including nuclear energy has social responsibility that it should pass the scientific factors to the right. It is essential to ensure the accuracy and fairness. The general public, such as press releases and information obtained through indirect communication affects social acceptance of nuclear power, which is used to determine the direction of energy policy, the most important factor to be taken into account. Recent rapid increase coverage of NPP lose in balance of nuclear power plants. In this study the qualitative interviews were performed with the workers who stand directly in obtaining information about nuclear related organizations. By E-mail and FGI the data were collected from the workers' perception about domestic nuclear news. They perceived the NPP news that the negative aspects of nuclear power plants were too much dealt in nuclear news coverage, and risk of NPP is only exaggerated and distorted, the lack of expertise knowledge on nuclear power and recognize that the cause was a lack of understanding. 'Nuclear mah' for the event were aware that should dig more thoroughly. The Journal of Digital Policy & Management.

  • MANET(Mobile Ad-hoc Network) has been proposed as a infrastructure-less network using distributed algorithm for remote environment monitoring and control. The mobility of MANET would make the topology change frequently compared with a static network and a node is resource-constrained. Hence, to improve the routing protocol in MANET, energy efficient routing protocol is required as well as considering the mobility would be needed. In this paper, we extend RODMRP(Resilient Ontology-based Dynamic Multicast Routing Protocol) structure by a modifying the level of cluster. We call this network protocol CACH-RODMRP. Our contribution consists estimating the optimal level of clustering depth with considering node position and reducing the network residual energy. The simulation results of proposal algorithm show that the energy is significantly reduced compared with the previous clustering based routing algorithm for the MANET.

  • The energy consumption problem in wireless sensor networks is investigated. The problem is to expend as little energy as possible receiving and transmitting data, because of constrained battery. In this paper, in order to extend the lifetime of the network, we proposed a location-based clustering algorithm for wireless sensor network with skewed-topology. The proposed algorithm is to deploy multiple child nodes at the sink to avoid bottleneck near the sink and to save energy. Proposed algorithm can reduce control traffic overhead by creating a dynamic cluster. We have evaluated the performance of our clustering algorithm through an analysis and a simulation. We compare our algorithm's performance to the best known centralized algorithm, and demonstrate that it achieves a good performance in terms of the life time.

Since a large number of sensor nodes are densely deployed and collect data by cooperation in wireless sensor network, keeping more sensor nodes alive as possible is important to extend the lifetime of the sensor network. Energy efficiency is an important factor of researches that efficient routing algorithm is needed in wireless sensor network. In this research, I consider some methods to utilize more efficiently the limited power resource of wireless sensor networks. The proposed algorithm is the sink first divides the network into several areas with hop counts and data transmission based on cluster ID. The performance of the proposed algorithm has been examined and evaluated with NS-2 simulator in terms of lifetime, amount of data and overhead.

  • Since energy efficiency has become a significant concern for network infrastructure, next-generation network devices are expected to have embedded advanced power management capabilities. However, how to effectively exploit the green capabilities is still a big challenge, especially given the high heterogeneity of devices and their internal architectures. In this paper, we introduce a hierarchical power management architecture (HPMA) which represents physical components whose power can be monitored and controlled at various levels of a device as entities. We use energy aware state (EAS) as the power management setting mode of each device entity. The power policy controller is capable of getting information on how many EASes of the entity are manageable inside a device, and setting a certain EAS configuration for the entity. We propose the optimal local control policy which aims to minimize the router power consumption while meeting the performance constraints. A first-order Markov chain is used to model the statistical features of the network traffic load. The dynamic EAS configuration problem is formulated as a Markov decision process and solved using a dynamic programming algorithm. In addition, we demonstrate a reference implementation of the HPMA and EAS concept in a NetFPGA frequency scaled router which has the ability of toggling among five operating frequency options and/or turning off unused Ethernet ports.
