SWAT model calibration/validation using SWAT-CUP II: analysis for uncertainties of simulation run/iteration number (SWAT-CUP을 이용한 SWAT 모형 검·보정 II: 모의 실행 및 반복 횟수에 따른 불확실성 분석)

  • The main objective of the study is to propose the most efficient SWAT model calibration method using SWAT-CUP with less computing time and high performance. In order to achieve the goal, Case1-3 (250, 500, and 1,000 simulation runs) and Case4 (1,000 simulation runs in the first iteration and then 500 simulation runs for the following iterations) were defined to compare the results. When evaluating the values of the objective function, Case2 and Case3 reached the same value after the fourth iteration, and Case1 reached the closed value of Case2-3 after the eighth iteration. However, the final estimates of the parameters had different ranges in Cases1-3, and only the results of Case3 and Case4 converged similarly. Thus, it can be considered that the parameter calibration results are highly affected by the initial number of simulation runs. On the other hand, SWAT simulation results did not show the significant difference after the first iteration, unlike the parameter ranges. From the analysis results, we can conclude that the most suitable and effective method was to repeat one or two times of iterations with a sufficient number of simulation runs, as in Case4.

Estimation of Daily Net Radiation from Synoptic Meteorological Data (종관기상자료에 의한 순폭사량 추정)

  • Five models for net radiation estimation reported by Linacre(1968), Berljand(1956), Nakayama et al. (1983), Chang (1970) and Doorenbos et al. (1977) were tested for the adaptability to Korea. A new model with effective longwave radiation term parameterized by air temperature, solar radiation and vapor pressure was formulated and tested for its accuracy. Above five models with original parameter values showed large absolute mean deviations ranging from 0.86 to 1.64 MJ/$m^2$/day. The parameters of the above five models were reestimated by using net radiation and meteorological elements measured in Suwon, Korea. These five models with new parameter values showed absolute mean deviations ranging from 0.74 to 0.88 MJ/$m^2$/day. The following model was newly formulated: Rn=(1- $\alpha$) Rs- $\sigma$ $T_{k}$$^{4}$ (0.0103 Exp (0 .0731 Rs) -0.0475 (equation omitted) +0 .2478) ($R^2$=0.997, n=63) where $\alpha$ =albedo, $\sigma$=Stefan-Boltzmann constant, Rs=solar radiation in MJ/$m^2$/day, Tk =air temperature in Kelvin and $e_{a}$=vapor pressure in mb. This model revealed 0.4988 MJ/$m^2$/day in absolute mean deviation when applied to an independent set of meteorological data.a.a.

Equilibrium, Kinetic and Thermodynamic Parameter Studies on Adsorption of Allura Red from Aqueous Solution by Granular Activated Carbon (입상활성탄에 의한 수용액으로부터 오로라 레드의 흡착에 대한 평형, 동력학 및 열역학 파라미터에 관한 연구)

  • Allura Red (AR) is a water-soluble harmful tar-based food colorant (FD & C Red 40). Batch adsorption studies were performed for the removal of AR using bituminous coal based granular activated carbon as adsorbent by varying the operation parameters such as adsorbent dosage, initial concentration, contact time and temperature. Experimental equilibrium adsorption data were analyzed by Langmuir, Freundlich and Temkin isotherms. The equilibrium process was described well by Freundlich isotherm. From determined separation factor ($R_L$), adsorption of AR by granular activated carbon could be employed as effective treatment method. Temkin parameter, B was determined to 1.62~3.288 J/mol indicating a physical adsorption process. By estimation of adsorption rate experimental data, the value of intraparticle diffusion rate constant ($k_m$) increased with the increasing adsorption temperature. The adsorption process were found to confirm to the pseudo second order model with good correlation. Thermodynamic parameters like change of free energy, enthalpy, and entropy were also calculated to predict the nature adsorption in the temperature range of 298~318 K. The negative Gibbs free energy change (${\Delta}G$ = -2.16~-6.55 kJ/mol) and the positive enthalpy change (${\Delta}H$ = + 23.29 kJ/mol) indicated the spontaneous and endothermic nature of the adsorption process, respectively.

  • In general, anionic and cationic surfactants are incompatible because their mixtures form insoluble complexes and precipitate in the water. There are, however, some equimolar complexes of anionic and cationic surfactant that are soluble and behave like regular surfactants, specifically like nonionic surfactants, thus named pseudo-nonionic surfactant complexes. Pseudo-nonionic complexes are more effective and efficient in surface activities than their ionic surfactant components as shown by their equilibrium and dynamic surface tensions. They pack at the interface more than their ionic components. When a novel cationic surfactant, diglyceryl dodecyl dimethyl ammonium chloride(DGDAC), having the polyhydroxyl group at the hydrophilic head group, was mixed with a conventional anionic surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate; SDS) at equimolar ratio, we found that the aqueous equimolar mixture showed strong positive synergism in which molecular interaction parameter ${\beta}^M$ was very low, -17.2. According to the studies of equilibrium phase behavior and microscopy, this mixed system could form homogenous solutions containing vesicles.

  • Recent advancements in industries and technologies have resulted in an increase in the volume of transportation, management, and distribution of logistics. Radio-frequency identification (RFID) technologies have been developed to efficiently manage such a large amount of logistics information. The use of RFID for management is being applied not only to the logistics industry, but also to the power transmission and energy management field. However, due to the limitation of program development capacity, the RFID device is limited in development, and this limitation is vulnerable to security because the existing strong encryption method cannot be used. For this reason, we designed a chaotic system for security with simple operations that are easy to apply to such a restricted environment of RFID. The designed system is a two-dimensional tent map chaotic system. In order to solve the problem of a biased distribution of signals according to the parameters of the chaotic dynamical system, the system has a cryptographic parameter(𝜇1), a distribution parameter(𝜇2), and a parameter(𝜃), which is the constant point, ID value, that can be used as a key value. The designed RFID authentication system is similar to random numbers, and it has the characteristics of chaotic signals that can be reproduced with initial values. It can also solve the problem of a biased distribution of parameters, so it is deemed to be more effective than the existing encryption method using the chaotic system.

Comparisons of the Performance with Bayes Estimator and MLE for Control Charts Based on Geometric Distribution (기하분포에 기초한 관리도에서 베이즈추정량과 최대우도추정량 사용의 성능 비교)

  • Charts based on geometric distribution are effective to monitor the proportion of nonconforming items in high-quality processes where the in-control proportion nonconforming is low. The implementation of this chart is often based on the assumption that in-control proportion nonconforming is known or accurately estimated. However, accurate parameter estimation is very difficult and may require a larger sample size than that available in practice for high-quality process where the proportion of nonconforming items is very small. An inaccurate estimate of the parameter can result in estimated control limits that cause unreliability in the monitoring process. The maximum likelihood estimator (MLE) is often used to estimate in-control proportion nonconforming. In this paper, we recommend a Bayes estimator for the in-control proportion nonconforming to incorporate practitioner knowledge and avoid estimation issues when no nonconforming items are observed in the Phase I sample. The effects of parameter estimation on the geometric chart and the geometric CUSUM chart are considered when the MLE and the Bayes estimator are used. The results show that chart performance with estimated control limits based on the Bayes estimator is generally better than that based on the MLE.

A Novel Approach to a Robust A Priori SNR Estimator in Speech Enhancement (음성 향상에서 강인한 새로운 선행 SNR 추정 기법에 관한 연구)

  • This Paper presents a novel approach to single channel microphone speech enhancement in noisy environments. Widely used noise reduction techniques based on the spectral subtraction are generally expressed as a spectral gam depending on the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR). The well-known decision-directed(DD) estimator of Ephraim and Malah efficiently reduces musical noise under the background noise conditions, but generates the delay of the a prioiri SNR because the DD weights the speech spectrum component of the Previous frame in the speech signal. Therefore, the noise suppression gain which is affected by the delay of the a priori SNR, which is estimated by the DD matches the previous frame rather than the current one, so after noise suppression. this degrades the noise reduction performance during speech transient periods. We propose a computationally simple but effective speech enhancement technique based on the sigmoid type function for the weight Parameter of the DD. The proposed approach solves the delay problem about the main parameter, the a priori SNR of the DD while maintaining the benefits of the DD. Performances of the proposed enhancement algorithm are evaluated by ITU-T p.862 Perceptual Evaluation of Speech duality (PESQ). the Mean Opinion Score (MOS) and the speech spectrogram under various noise environments and yields better results compared with the fixed weight parameter of the DD.

Effective SoC Architecture of a VDP for full HD TVs (Full HD TV를 위한 효율적인 VDP SoC 구조)

  • This Paper proposes an effective SoC hardware architecture implementing a VDP for Full HD TVs. The proposed architecture makes real time video processing possible with supporting efficient bus architecture and flexible interface. Video IP cores in the VDP are designed to provide a high quality of improved image enhancement function. The Avalon interface is adopted to guarantee real-time capability to IPs as well as SoC integration. This leads to reduced design time and also enhanced designer's convenience due to the easiness in IP addition, deletion, and revision for IP verification and SoC integration. The embedded software makes it possible to implement flexible real-time system by controlling setting parameter details and data transmitting schemes in real-time. The proposed VDP SoC design is implemented on Cyclon III SoPC platform. The experimental results show that our proposed architecture of the VDP SoC successfully provides required quality of Video image by converting SD level input to Full HD level image.

The Effectiveness for Consolidating Fitment of Safety Belt Reminder (좌석안전띠 미착용 경고장치의 의무 장착에 따른 효과분석)

  • It is widely recognised that the safety-belt is one of the most important and effective vehicle safety features. Nevertheless, actual safety-belt wearing rates are low in Korea, especially rear seats. In Korea, rear seat safety-belt use can be as low as 20%. Consolidating fitment of Safety Belt Reminder(SBR) is one of means to improve belt wearing rates. In this paper, we use the effect of wearing seat belt model as Evans(1991) model. As a key parameter, intial wearing seat belt rates is studied and final wearing seat belt rates is used as scenario related a human compliance variables. In this study, benefit analysis is performed when the effective SBR is made mandatory for all passenger car seat. According to study results, when the fitment of SBR is made mandatory for all passenger car seats in Korea, 119 lives are expected to be saved annually with a 90% observance rate of the SBR. In the same condition, benefit-cost ratio will be 1.84.

An effective online delay estimation method based on a simplified physical system model for real-time hybrid simulation

  • Real-Time Hybrid Simulation (RTHS) is a novel approach conceived to evaluate dynamic responses of structures with parts of a structure physically tested and the remainder parts numerically modelled. In RTHS, delay estimation is often a precondition of compensation; nonetheless, system delay may vary during testing. Consequently, it is sometimes necessary to measure delay online. Along these lines, this paper proposes an online delay estimation method using least-squares algorithm based on a simplified physical system model, i.e., a pure delay multiplied by a gain reflecting amplitude errors of physical system control. Advantages and disadvantages of different delay estimation methods based on this simplified model are firstly discussed. Subsequently, it introduces the least-squares algorithm in order to render the estimator based on Taylor series more practical yet effective. As a result, relevant parameter choice results to be quite easy. Finally in order to verify performance of the proposed method, numerical simulations and RTHS with a buckling-restrained brace specimen are carried out. Relevant results show that the proposed technique is endowed with good convergence speed and accuracy, even when measurement noises and amplitude errors of actuator control are present.
