This is the attempt to study the fish assemblages in eelgrass bed of Jeogu on Geoje Island, Korea. Samples were collected by surf net monthly from August 2009 to July 2010. A total 38 species, 2,335 individuals, and 5,289.8g of fishes were collected. The dominant species were Chaenogobius annularis, Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Rudarius ercodes, Siganus fuscescens, Ditrema temminckii, Takifugu niphobles, Aulichthys japonicus, Pseudoblennius cottoides, Syngnathus schlegeli, Sebastes schlegelii, Pterogobius elapoides, Urocampus nanus, Takifugu pardalis, Hypodytes rubripinnis which accounted for 94.2% of total number of individuals of fish collected. Eelgrass biomass showed a peak in August (DW 121.5g/m$^2$), low values in November (DW 74.9 g/m$^2$) to February (DW 49.3g/m$^2$), and started growing from May (DW 112.8g/m$^2$). Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Sebastes schlegeli, Takifugu niphobles, Syngnathus schlegeli, Urocampus nanus were collected year-round with no clear relationship to the biomass of eelgrass bed.
Fish species composition in eelgrass bed of Bongam on Hansando island, Korea was determined using monthly samples collected by a surf net from August 2009 to July 2010. A total of 30 species, 3,237 individuals and 6,850.1g of fish were collected. The dominant species were Gymnogobius heptacanthus, Rudarius ercodes, Takifugu niphobles, Chaenogobius annularis, Pterogobius elapoides and Syngnathus schlegeli which accounted for 86.7% of total number of individuals of fish collected. Eelgrass started growing from May ($DW61.9g/m^2$) showing a peak biomass in August ($DW81.6g/m^2$), and low values in November ($DW57.23g/m^2$) to February ($DW15.41g/m^2$). The fish assemblages in the eelgrass beds showed clear seasonal changes; the number of fish species and individuals were low from September to December 2009, and high from December 2009 to July 2010. Seasonal variation in species composition and abundance was related to the water temperature and standing crops of eelgrass.
A total of 60 species of benthic macrofauna was collected by a grab sampler in the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay, Korea. The dominant group was Polychaeta which was composed of 32 species. The dominant species were Platynereis bicanaliculata, Cirriformia tentaculata, Lumbrineris longifolia, and Cirratulus cirratus which accounted for approximately $63.7\%$ of the total numbers of benthic macrofauna. Seasonal variations in both species composition and abundance of the benthic macrofauna were major characteristics in the study area. Seasonal peak of number of species and abundance occurred in summer. And the lowest abundance occurred in winter. Seasonal dominant species were Platynereis bicanaliculata, Cirriformia tentaculata, Lumbrineris longifolia in spring and summer, and Cirratulus cirratus, Capitella capitata, Opisthobranchia in fall.

Monthly variation in species composition was determined using fish samples collected by a beach seine between October 2013 and September 2014 in the eelgrass bed in Aenggang Bay, Namhae, Gyeongsangnamdo. A total of 3,174 individuals of 35 species, amounting to 3,137 g were collected. The dominant species was Gymnogobius heptacanthus, followed by Pholis nebulosa, Rudarius ercodes, Favonigobius gymnauchen and Hypodytes rubripinnis. Almost all fish collected were small in size or juveniles. Seasonal variation of species composition showed that the dominant species, used the shallow area of the eelgrass bed as a nursery ground and moved to a deeper water as they grew. Saurida elongata, Inimicus japonicus, Sphyraena pinguis, and Arothron hispidus, were first reported in an eelgrass bed in the southern coastal water.

This study aimed to determine the monthly fish species composition in the eelgrass bed of Yeocha on Hansando Island, Korea, and to obtain fish species data by comparison with the nearby Bongam. The species composition was determined from monthly samples collected by a surf net from August 2009 to July 2010. During the survey, total 2,394 individuals of 29 species and 10,378 g of fish were collected. The dominant species were Gymnogobius heptacanthus, followed by Takifugu niphobles, Rudarius ercodes, Chaenogobius annularis, and Ditrema temminckii, accounting for 89% of the total individuals sampled and 83% of the fish biomass collected. The fish assemblages in the eelgrass bed varied seasonally; the number of individual fishes increased in May and was highest in July, whereas the biomass attained its highest level in April and subsequently decreased. This study confirms that the seagrass bed plays an important role as a fish nursery ground, and it is necessary to investigate changes in the coastal fishes of the southern coast via periodic surveys.

The diet composition of Takifugu niphobles was studied with 587 specimens collected in the eelgrass bed of Jangpyeong-ri, Tongyeong, Korea, using a seine net, monthly from May 2016 to April 2017. The standard length (SL) of the specimens ranged from 0.7 to 9.0 cm. The stomach contents analysis indicated that T. niphobles consumed mainly amphipods (%IRI: 91.0 %). In addition, T. niphobles fed on small quantities of copepods, polychaetes, insects, bivalves and crabs. T. niphobles consumed mainly amphipods over all size class. Smaller individuals (less than 4 cm SL) fed mainly on amphipods and copepods. The proportion of copepods decreased, as body size increased, whereas the consumption of polychaetes increased gradually. The seasonal variation in the diet composition of T. niphobles was significant. Amphipods were most common prey in all seasons. Copepods decreased from summer to spring gradually whereas the consumption of polychaetes increased in autumn.
Feeding Habits of Acanthogobius flavimanus collected from the eelgrass bed in Kwangyang Bay from January to December 1994 were studied. A. flavimanus was a carnivore which consumed mainly polychaetes, crabs, shrimps, gammarid amphipods and fishes. Its diets included small quantities of ophiuroids, gastropods, bivalves, caprellid amphipods, isopods and tanaids. It showed ontogenetic changes in feeding habits. Small individuals fed mainly on polychaetes and amphipods. While the consumption of polychaetes and amphipods decreased with increasing fish sin, the consumption of shrimps, crabs and fishes increased. A. flavimanus fed diverse prey organisms in adult stage. The relative proportion of the major prey items changed with season. Although the consumption of polychaetes, shrimps and gammarid amphipods was relatively high in spring and autumn, A. flavimanus fed various prey organisms in nearly equal proportions in the other seasons.
A total 34 fish species, 1,110 individuals, and 5,107.3 g of fishes were collected by a surf net in the eelgrass bed in Jisepo Bay of Geoje Island, Korea. Samples were monthly collected from March 2005 to February 2006. The dominant fish species were Rudarius ercodes, Ditrema temminckii, Syngnathus schlegeli, Petroscirtes breviceps, which accounted for 73.5% of total number of individuals and 63.6% of biomass of fish collected. The number of species and biomass were low from March 2005 to July 2005, and high from August 2005 to October 2005. Species diversity indices ranged from 0.836 to 2.016, and showed the highest value in December 2005.
The intraspecific variability, habitats, and morphological characteristics of eelgrass (Zostera marina L.) along the eastern coast of Korea were examined during June to August 1998. Morphological characteristics including shoot height, leaf length, leaf width, number of leaf veins, and shape of leaf apex were measured, and eelgrass habitats were analyzed using character correlation, principal components and cluster analyses. The morphological characteristics varied with the habitat types and water depth. Eelgrass beds distributed mostly in lagoons, ports and bays along the east coast of the Korean peninsula. The quantitative morphological features that enabled recognition of the two phonetic groups were short- narrow and long-broad leaf types. Leaf apex in particular varied with the habitat characteristics.
Seasonal variations of eelgrass and epiphytic algae in eelgrass beds in Kwangyang Bay were studied from January 1994 to December 1994. A peak of the shoot length and standing crop of eelgrass occurred in summer, but low values were observed in fall and winter. The dominant species of epiphytic algae were Callophyllis rhynchocarpa and Champia sp. In spring and summer, while Polysiphonia japonica and Lomentaria hakodatensis in fall and winter. In contrast to the eelgrass, the standing crop of epiphytic algae showed a minimum in summer. There was a gradual increase in the standing crop of epiphytic algae during fall, and a peak of standing crop occurred in winter. Epiphytic algae accounted for approximately $15\~20\%$ of total plant standing crops of the eelgrass meadows. Correlation analysis with environmental factors indicated that temperature influences on both the standing crop of eelgrass and epiphytic algae. There was a positive relationship between the standing crop of eelgrass and temperature, while there was a reverse relationship between that of epiphytic algae and temperature.
