TIMSS 2015 science data and questionnaire results were used for fitting Hierarchical Linear Model (HLM) in this study. According to the results, such student-level variables as home resources for learning, students' interest in science learning, valuing science, Students' Educational Expectations gave significant influence on the science achievement of Korean students. School-level variables including Student Economic Background, and School Emphasis on Academic Success gave significant influence on the science achievement of Korean students. Comparing 5 countries, home resources for learning, students' interest in science learning, Students' Educational Expectations gave significant influence on the science achievement in all 5 countries. At the school level, Student Economic Background is statistically significant in explaining students' science achievement gap in all countries except Japan, and Teaching Limited by Student Needs gave significant influence on the science achievement in all countries except Korea. Discussed in the conclusion are ways to improve middle-school science teaching and learning including reducing the education divide among socioeconomic status, teaching innovation for competency education, inquiry and reinforcement of lab activities in science classes, and so on.

  • A number of studies on the educational influence of drama and theatre have increased since the 1990s in South Korea. These days, more Korean researchers seem to have recognised the educational influence of drama and theatre than before. At this time, it is meaningful to look into how the domestic trend of studies has changed and developed over the past thirty years. This paper especially adopted a bibliometric method to analyse the trend by time of studies from the late 1990s to 2017. In addition, target age, research topic and research approach of each study were investigated. Some of terminologies particularly used in South Korea were also defined to help young researchers' understanding in this paper. In detail, the total number of studies for the last thirty years is 225 and the first domestic study on the educational power of drama and theatre was published in 1994. In the 2000s, there was quantitative expansion in terms of the number of studies and topics. Eventually pragmatic and integrated features of the studies were found in the 2010s. It is anticipated that the pragmatic and integrated features of the studies will be stimulated to fit into the need of the time. Until now, the most fevered research target age was mainly primary school students. However, it would be possible to widen a target age range in the future. It should be considered having collaboration among researchers who have different expertises for conducting higher quality studies.

Secondly, design methods have been changed according to the change of the times. Any master plan was not formulated until the 1960s. Seoul National University formed a master plan adopting radiated sector pattern for land use and a block plan in the early years of the 1970s. Chungnam National University used a squared space style with a trouble of the learned from the SNU design methods in the year 1974. A concept of axis according to topography] in Andong National University and environmental preservation in Yiosu National University was used in the 1980s. Korean Athletic Educational University used a transportation model for facilitating efficiency to use university land and making pedestrian convenient by classification with fast and slow walker's way.

  • This paper focuses on a differentiation strategy to improve educational competitiveness of education department. The reason is that education department stand now on the brink of a precipice because of low employment rate. For this, I researched on 'employment rate' and 'curriculum nature' of educational technology department of YW university and A university, lifelong education department of S university and D university, educational psychology department of SW university which are all related to pedagogy relation department recording relatively high-employment rate. Through the date, I'd like to emphasize that competitiveness of education department depends on a differentiation strategy and that strategy must be based on the influence of education with the consideration of obligation and characterization. And we find that a influence of education can be demonstrated in two aspects : a rational scheme's side and lively culture's side. In the rational scheme aspects, diversification and specialization of curriculum content considering department characteristics and curriculum management including mentoring and sense of realism are emphasized. On the side of culture scheme, positive involvement of members, outlook on the world defined by the concepts like challenge and passion to the future, a sense of community. These discussions will be a guide role on the future researches which focuses on improving competitiveness of education department.

  • Background: Parental attention is crucial for preventing childhood oral diseases. Mothers play a significant role in maintaining their families' oral health, and their educational level influences their children's oral health behaviors. This study investigates the impact of mothers' educational levels on adult oral health behaviors using data from a national survey. Methods: This study employed a cross-sectional analysis of secondary data. The data used were obtained from the 8th Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Descriptive statistics were calculated to identify participant characteristics. Next, t-tests and one-way analysis of variance were conducted to examine the effects of the explanatory variables on the distribution of the dependent variable. Finally, logistic regression analysis was used to investigate the influence of the explanatory variable on the dependent variable, using "no education" as the reference value, and calculate the odds ratios. Results: Children of mothers with a college education or higher had a 1.13 times higher likelihood of receiving oral examinations than those whose mothers had no education. Children whose mothers graduated from college or higher had a 2.23 times higher probability of receiving preventative dental treatment than those whose mothers had no education. Children whose mothers graduated from college or higher had a 1.92 times higher probability of receiving scaling than those whose mothers had no education. Children whose mothers graduated from high school had a 1.35 times higher probability of receiving scaling than those whose mothers had no education. Conclusion: Developing oral health programs is important for low-educated and low-income parents to change theirs and their children's oral health behaviors/attitudes. This will help reduce oral health disparities among adults raised by parents of higher and lower socioeconomic statuses. Therefore, a comprehensive approach is essential for adults to maintain good oral health, regardless of variations in their parental educational levels during childhood.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the awareness of elementary teachers about educational technology. Educational technology that is embodied at school was the form of "systemic structure" whose components are complex and exert close mutual influence on one another, rather than of "systemic assembly" that relationship of components were well controlled. A qualitative epistemological method was used to look into educational technology instead of existing empirical ones. Metaphor analysis was utilized among various qualitative research methods to find out what elementary teachers thought of educational technology. Six elementary teachers were asked to draw a picture to describe what came into their mind when they heard term of "educational technology," and they were interviewed in depth to check what their pictures meant. As a result, elementary teachers expressed their point of views about educational technology as "a scientific, technical and systemized instrument to stir up the learning interest and joy of students," "an action to mechanically fit together every part of education(curriculum)," "educational technology as a teaching and learning method," and "an integrated and overall system." This finding seemed to have something to do with media theory, teaching and learning theory and system theory that have been used in educational technology. This study was expected to be significance in that it investigated the way of looking at educational technology in the field, and confirmed the close relationship between theory and practice, and finally provided an opportunity to reflect on the ontological nature and epistemological method of educational technology.
