  • The main purposes of this study was to develop evaluation model, which provides program educational objectives(PEO) evaluation research with guidances on how to evaluate the program educational objectives and procedures in order to enhance the quality of engineering education. Educational objective evaluation is reciprocal processes that depend on and affect one another. Thus, the evaluation component deals with how to identify members' strengths, weakness, and needs, how to assess and improve the effectiveness of curriculum programs, and how to provide data that assist in decision making. After literature reviews about the case studies on the program educational objectives evaluation, this study, to understand the meaning of education evaluation and the engineering accreditation, and then, examined the evaluation model for program educational objectives. This study suggested evaluation components of program educational objectives. In particular, the distinctions between diagnostic, formative, and summative evaluation are discussed. The result of this study is significant in terms of guiding the future evaluation model development for program educational objectives.

  • In this paper, we propose a analysis of electric and electronic's unit in paratical arts and convergence education program to enhance computational thinking. In the current practical arts curriculum of Korean elementary school 6th graders, the 'information' related chapter is Chapter 3. However, educational contents mainly consist of making activities according to the specified manual such as electrical and electronic products, learning about robots, etc. It is very insufficient to develop the computational thinking required by the software-centered society. Therefore, we are to study development of convergence education program of the 'Life and Electricity Electron' unit in practical arts textbook to enhance computational thinking.

  • Over the past few decades, gender equality has been considered one of the fundamental principles and a significant crosscutting issue in international development. However, beyond applying 'gender equality' as a policy buzzword, there has been a lack of critical reviews on how generally 'gender equality in education' is understood and constructed in Korea's development programs and projects. In this regard, this paper explores the use of vocabularies and semantic meanings of gender equality in the Korean Government's Academic Cooperation Program and its 52 projects. By applying mixed contents analysis as a method, the research resulted in several findings: first, the policy papers recently highlighted Korea's directions on gender mainstreaming and gender-sensitive approaches in international development. Second, 'integrating women and girls' into education institutions was emphasized in various projects; third, the term women rather than gender were used in the texts, highlighting their position as a 'marginalized group.' Lastly, there was a lack of evidence of projects dealing with changing gender-based power relations. The constructed gendered relations and powers were identified throughout projects, usually acting as barriers to project activities. However, they were only identified, not challenged, by the program. In conclusion, whilst Korean international development and educational development discourse actively embrace Women in Development (WID) and Gender and Development (GAD) in their programs, it is time to consider the issue of gender equality from different standpoints, such as identity, rights, and capabilities and a more active engagement with Korea's domestic issues in gender discourse and practices is also needed.

Methods: Code-matched pre- and post-surveys were conducted for Pharmacists who participated in a preceptor orientation program designed by the Pusan National University (PNU) College of Pharmacy in May and December, 2011. A total of 50 sets of survey responses were analyzed. Results: After a 2-day course of 8-hour preceptor orientation workshop scheduled 1 week apart, the number of respondents who became fully aware and understand toward goals and vision of 6-year pharmacy education was increased from 52% to 96%. The orientation program also improved the understanding of pharmacists on preceptor's roles and functions, and the number of respondents who reported that their perceptions of preceptorship were changed positively was increased by 40%. In addition, the data demonstrated that the preceptor orientation program improved the overall perceived self-assessed competence of participants as a preceptor by 12.9 points (from 51.76 to 64.66 points, p = 0.0001). Most of the participants agreed the preceptor orientation program was beneficial and ongoing training and education for preceptor development is necessary. Conclusion: This study identified the perceptions of pharmacists on 6-year pharmacy education and preceptorship in the experiential education. Findings from the survey demonstrated that the preceptor orientation program of the PNU College of Pharmacy was effective to improve pharmacist's competence as a preceptor. This study was a good start in identifying areas where preceptor development is needed, and provides insights into the development and implementation of preceptor orientation programs. In the future, more rigorous research is needed to explore long-term effects of preceptor orientation program and the outcomes of preceptor education in the improvement of the quality of experiential education.

  • Today, the Korean society is experiencing an increase in serious problems, such as child abuse, unmarried mothers, single mothers, which cannot be overlooked as simply trivial family matters. The increase in these problems is caused by the rapid change that has taken place within our society, which has emasculated the power of our traditional values and behavior patterns to cope with contemporary life styles. Premarital Preparation Education is starting to gain attention as a preventive measure that can overcome this serious family crisis. Although the importance of the Premarital Preparation Education program cannot be overemphasized, there are only few cases where engaged couples and unmarried men and women are exposed to this type of program and actually experience its benefits. In other words, there is an urgent need to revitalize and increase the effects of the Premarital Preparation Education Program. This research was conducted in order to find a way to revitalize and to increase the effects of the program, so that more and more people can participate and receive benefits from it. First, we have analyzed the program's contents and the current condition on how the program is actually conducted. Then we have compared real case examples of the program and analyzed the current situation and its problems.

  • This study aimed to investigate the current status of faculty development (FD) programs operated by medical colleges and institutions in Korea, and to suggest future-oriented directions for FD. A survey was conducted targeting medical colleges and medical education institutions that operate FD programs. We investigated the reasons for selecting topics, program themes, program operation methods, longitudinal program status, program improvement and quality control methods, the evaluation of the program effects, the outcomes and problems of the programs, and opinions on the latest trends. Twenty-nine out of 40 medical colleges and three out of six institutions responded. Topics were selected based on an analysis of medical education trends and the educational environment in both groups. The most common program themes were assessments in medical colleges, and teaching/learning and curriculum themes in institutions. FD was perceived to induce professors' and administrators' interest in medical education and improve the quality of medical education. The most common program method was workshops. Three medical colleges and one institution had longitudinal programs. Participant surveys constituted the most common method of evaluating programs' effects. Difficulties in publicizing programs and inducing voluntary participation were the most common problems in both groups. New attempts for FD were perceived as the role of external institutions. Based on the results, it is necessary to develop a framework and quality improvement indications for FD programs in the future, and FD programs are expected to be developed through new initiatives, such as longitudinal programs and those focusing on the community of practice.
