  • This study intends to understand deeply the higher education evaluation accreditation system in Taiwan. Taiwan established newly the Higher Education Evaluation & Accreditation Council in 2005, an independent organization with the exclusive responsibility to execute evaluation. Three kinds of evaluation have been accomplished, including University Program Evaluation which assesses whole university management, Academic Fields Evaluation and Performance Evaluation which compare the superiority and inferiority among universities. The Accreditation system is applied only to Academic Fields Evaluation. For evaluation, each university presents a self-evaluation report, undergoes an visiting evaluation, makes out an evaluation report and lastly is notified of the result. The evaluation is divided into three results : pass, waiting observation and non-pass. According to an announcement in June 2008, the rate of non-pass universities reached the 15.7%. The non-pass universities are supposed to receive the disadvantaged in the admission number limit and take the following evaluation in the following year. Debates still exists concerning the eliminatory nature of the system and the announcement of achievement rankings through evaluation results. Other problems include the improvement of quality of evaluation committee members and the irrational evaluation standards. These problems will be meaningful for the development of the korean higher evaluation system.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the teachers' perceptions about the various evaluation methods used in SW education and to find ways to improve the usefulness of the field. To do this, we surveyed the teachers who were educated about SW education evaluation. As a result of the study, it was recognized that the use of output, portfolio, and observation evaluation in SW education class is suitable for evaluating Computational Thinking(CT) and useful for field application. On the other hand, paper and self-evaluation are useful for field application, but they are relatively inadequate to evaluate CT. Portfolio, design, and interview evaluations are good for measuring CT, but they are difficult to apply to the field. Also, evaluation criteria, evaluation factors, and strategies were found to be difficult to apply. Therefore, we suggest the necessary measures to apply SW education evaluation method more effectively.

Method: Research survey was conducted on 38 EMT-paramedic students during November, 2011 and EMT-paramedic students' experience of simulation education was analyzed after applying head, spinal, and chest injury scenario. The confidence before and after education, learning attitude and course evaluation in gender were analyzed by Mann-Whitny U test and the difference of confidence before and after education was analyzed by Wilcoxon signed rank test and learning attitude & course evaluation were analyzed by evaluating frequency, percentage, mean, standard deviation by using SPSS WIN 17.0 program. Results: 1. Students experienced various advantages such as increasing interest and self-reflection on learning, critical thinking ability, and EMT-paramedic-role experience and recognition of importance of teamwork. Students also pointed out disadvantages such as gap between real situation and simulation, limit of time and equipments, and burden of demonstration. 2. The confidence between before and after education, learning attitude and course evaluation in gender were not significant different statistically. 3. Confidence mean score elevated from 5.53(before education) to 5.87(after education), but the difference in their confidence did not show significant difference statistically. 4. Total mean score in learning attitude after simulation education was 3.70 out of 5.00, which is considerably very high. 5. Total mean score in course evaluation was 3.89 with score of 3.83 in evaluation in learning environment and 3.99 in evaluation of debriefing. Conclusion: The finding of this study demonstrate that the simulation education can provide a safe and repetitive practice environment, improve problem-solving ability and critical thinking, and increase the confidence in prehospital emergency care; therefore, simulation may be the new effective EMT-paramedic education strategy.

  • In general, lecture evaluation has been used in most universities as an important criterion to evaluate quality of education. This study is exploratory research on the predictors that determine lecture evaluation in college of engineering to give practical implications for improvement of engineering education. For the exploration of predictors of lecture evaluation, the data of lecture evaluation in A College of Engineering located in the metropolitan area was used, and Decision Tree Analysis was utilized as an analysis method. As a result, the characteristics of students turned out to be the most distinct predictor comparing with those of course and instructor at lecture evaluation in college of engineering. That is, as various elements other than teaching competency influence lecture evaluation in college of engineering, it is necessary to be more careful in evaluating quality of lecture or teaching competence. Thus, a follow-up study should be conducted to adjust the influence by the predictors that instructors can hardly control.

  • This study intends to examine the indicators of Korean medicine education that are directly required in the field, in the process of developing and rationalizing the second cycle of evaluation and accreditation standards for the Colleges of Korean medicine and present indicators to the Korean medicine education community. To this end, we conducted the Delphi survey on six Korean medicine education experts, and the second cycle evaluation and accreditation standards were developed after verifying the validity of the contents and through a public hearing on three experts. Based on the research results of this study, we make the following suggestions: First, the support of Korean medical education institutions should be considered. The Korean medical education institution operates the Korean medicine hospital under each institution's name. Thus, criteria for evaluation shall be considered according to the number of beds and the support of schools. Second, for the second cycle of evaluation, all six members of the evaluation committee were professors of Korean medicine; however, in the future, each group of the evaluation committee needs to be composed of an external curriculum and evaluation experts to seek the evaluation focusing on education. Third, it is necessary to include curriculum and evaluation experts in the development stage of education programs and institutional evaluation and accreditation standards. Fourth, the experts of the curriculum should be included as the members of the curriculum development team of the College of Korean Medicine. This study is meaningful as a study to improve the quality of Korean medicine education.

  • The purpose of this study was to evaluate site-based environmental education(EE) programs. For the evaluation, an evaluation chart was developed. The chart was consisted of twenty evaluation items in the following six categories : 'goals & objectives', 'instructional planning', 'instruction', 'learning outcomes & evaluation', 'features of program', and 'program operation'. One hundred sixty five site-based EE programs, funded by the Korean Ministry of Environment in 2000, were evaluated. After the evaluation, the programs were also categorized and analyzed according to regions, organizations, and amount of funds. The results indicated that awareness, participation, and attitude were addressed in the purpose of the programs, while knowledge and skills were not. The diversity of activities and teaching strategies of the programs were insufficient. Cultural aspects, fairness, originality, and accuracy were also insufficiently addressed. Assessment and evaluation of such programs were needed to be considered to a larger degree. From the analysis of programs according to categories, Choongbuk province in the regional aspect and schools in the organizational aspect got higher scores than others. Overall, the more funding the program received, the higher score it got in evaluation. Some improvements and strategies for activating site-based EE were recommended based on the result of the evaluation.
