Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors related to eating attitudes of female high school students. Methods: Data were collected from 299 high school girls in 2016. The collected data were analyzed by SPSS/WIN 21.0. Results: There was a positive correlation between eating attitudes and anger thoughts, anger expression, perfectionism, depression, and problem behaviors. There was a negative correlation between eating attitudes and body esteem. The predictors of eating attitudes were perfectionism, body esteem, depression, and problem behaviors, which explained 23.7% of the participants' eating attitudes. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that it is necessary to recognize and measure the predictors of eating attitudes in advance and develop school-based health interventions to prevent eating disorders and improve eating attitudes among female high school students.
Objectives This study was performed to figure out relations of self-esteem, anxiety and the other factors related with obesity in obese children. Methods Forty-two children(21 boys and 21 girls) those who were diagnosed obesity have been recruited. To assess psychological factors, Self-esteem inventory(SEI), Revised Children's Manifest Anxiety Scale(RCMAS), International Physical Activity Questionnaires(IPAQ), Korean Eating Attitudes Test(KEAT-26) and Children's Depression Inventory(CDI) were administered. Behavioral characteristics were also analyzed. Results Self-esteem(SEI) had significant positive relationship with physical activity(IPAQ) and sleeping time. Self-esteem had significant negative relationship with anxiety(RCMAS), eating disorder(KEAT-26) and watching TV time. Anxiety had significant positive relationship with eating disorder(KEAT-26) and watching TV time, and negative relationship with physical activity(IPAQ) and sleeping time. All of participants seemed to be having depressive tendency. Conclusion Self-esteem and anxiety were significantly related. And eating disorder, physical activity, sleeping time and watching tv also affected to the self-esteem and anxiety of obese children.
This study was carried out to find the relationship between the eating disorder associated with BMI(body mass index) and nutrition knowledge by surveying 476 middle school girl students in Won Ju, Gang-Won Province, South Korea. BMI is a standard suggested for oriental people and it was differentiated into the underweight, the normal weight and the overweight. To determine the eating disorder, EAT-26(Eating Attitude Test-26) was used and in order to find out the level of nutrition knowledge DGE (Deutsche Gesellschaft fur Ernahrung) was used after some modifications and supplementations. And the results are as follows; 1) Out of the students surveyed, 22% are in underweight group, 64% are in normal weight group and just 12% are in overweight group. Except the students in underweight group, most of the surveyed students wish to lower the weight below normal weight. 2) Relationship was found between BMI and EAT-26 score that is related with eating disorder behavior, Total score was higher in overweight group than in underweight and normal weight group (P<0.001). When the score for individual question about eating disorder is considered in detail, the score for the questions preoccupied with the weight reduction was higher in overweight group than in underweight and normal weight group(P<0.001). For the questions about bulimia there was no difference according to BMI, however, for the questions about restraining food intake the score was high in overweight group(P<0.001). 3) The score of nutrition knowledge in line with BMI was different. It was found that the total score and the score for the questions about fat, calorie requirement, and calorie content in food were different. The total score showed the highest in overweight group in comparison with the ones in underweight and normal weight group. (P<0.05). Out of maccronutrient like carbohydrate, fat and protein, only the fat showed significant difference according to BMI and it was lower in overweight group than in underweight and normal weight group.(P<0.05) Out of the questions about calorie requirement, significant difference was found in the score for the questions about calorie requirement and calorie content in food. It was lower in overweight group than in underweight and normal weight group (p<0.05).
The purpose of this study was to provide basic information on the development of nutrition education programs to improve the mealtime behavior of children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) by investigating the mealtime behavior and food preferences of children with ASD through the perception of special education teachers. Surveys were given to 108 special education teachers in special education schools in Korea regarding the demographic characteristics, nutrition education support needs, mealtime behavior, and food preferences of children with ASD. Most of the special education teachers responded that nutrition education in special schools had not been conducted properly and nutrition education for ASD children is necessary. Mealtime behavior analysis classified the behavior into three clusters: cluster 1, 'less problematic mealtime behavior'; cluster 2, 'general feature of autism'; cluster 3, 'difficulty in self-directed diet'. The age, eating habits, and food preferences were different according to each mealtime behavior cluster. Therefore, it will be necessary to develop a nutrition education program based on the characteristics of mealtime behavior.
This study was designed to investigate the role of weight control in the formation of underlying pathology in eating disorder or eating related problems. The subjects were 304 college athletes(Male : 187. Female: 121) and they were divided into two groups according to need for weight control(Weght control group: 110, Weght non control group: 194). The authors used self report questionnaire which was composed of epidemiologic data, food habit scale, eating attitude test, scale for locus of control for weight, scale for food preference and eating behavior. And we also used Eysenck Personality Questionnaire of Korean standardized edition for assessment of personality characteristics, Beck depression inventory, and the scale of hypochondriasis. The results were as follows: 1) Body mass index and the amount of cigarrette smoking and alcohol drinking showed significant differences by sex but not by need for weight control. 2) Eating habit of female athletes was the worst in all athletes. The score of eating attitude test of female athletes was higher than that of male athletes but there was no significant difference by need for weight control. Food preference and eating related behavior was also different by sex. 3) There were no significant differences in all subscales of Eysenck Personality Questionnaire, Beck depression inventory, and the scale of hypochondriasis between two groups which were divided by need for weight control. Neuroticism score was higher in female atheletes and psychoticism score was the highest in weight control male atheletes. 4) There was no significant difference in number of population with abnormal EAT score(to-tal score$\geq$26) between two groups which were divided by need for weight control. 5) The score of eating attitude test had positive correlation with the score of psychoticism and the tendency of depression in weight control male athletes but not in non-weight control male athletes. In non-weight control male athletes, the score of eating attitude test had positive correlation with the score of lie scale. so its correlation is different from those of weight control male athletes. But in female athletes, the score of eating attitude test had significant positive correlation with the score of psychoticism in both groups. In conclusion, these results suggest that the differences of eating traits in athletes are depend upon the sex difference, not upon the need for weight control. and that the role of weight control in eating disorder or abnormal eating attitude differs according to sex.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the mediating effect of self-concealment on the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and disordered eating behavior. Toward this aim, 348 participants responded to the measures of self-critical perfectionism, self-concealment and disordered eating behavior. Correlation analysis revealed that self-critical perfectionism was positively correlated with self-concealment and disordered eating behavior. In addition, self-concealment was positively correlated with disordered eating behavior. Structural equations analysis found that the relationship between self-critical perfectionism and disordered eating behavior had a significant partial mediating effect on self-concealment, meaning that self-critical perfectionism increased disordered eating behavior through high levels of self-concealment. This finding suggests that individuals who place high standards on themselves, and feature fear of negative evaluation from others, are at greater risk for disordered eating behavior. Based on this finding, we discussed suggestions for future research and clinical implications.
This study was conducted to compare the body image perception, weight control experiences and the eating disorders according to where they were born, and the length of residence in USA among Korean-American college students. Three hundred college students participated in the study: 144 males and 156 females, 122 America-born (AB) and 171 Korea-born (KB) who live in New York City and New Jersey. Subjects responded to a self-administered questionnaire. The results showed that the ratio of overweight (23.2%) and obesity (26.8%) of males was higher than females'(16.1% and 6.3%, respectively). There were no significant differences according to born-place or the length of residence in USA of KB. People who had tried to control their weight were 58%. The ratio of weight control experiences of females (72.4%) was higher than males' (42.4%) as well as people who were normal or underweight than who were overweight or obesity. There were no significant differences according to born-place or the length of the residence in the USA of KB. In body image perception, the subjects who were normal and underweight overestimated their body figure, and the subjects who were overweight and obese underestimated their body figure. The desired and ideal figure of female students was significantly thinner than the current figure and also that of male students. There were no significant differences according to born-place or the length of the residence in USA of KB. The ratio of eating disorder was 8.7%, and females had higher percentage than males. And shorter they lived in USA, the percentage of eating disorder was higher.

This study analyzed the contents of the research papers concerning the obesity from a psychiatrical point of view. As a result, the following conclusion was drawn. 1. In obese people, negative emotions, especially depression were frequently reported. 2. Negative feelings, especially anger, anxiety, depression, induce binge eating and can lead to obesity. 3. Depression was related to the wrong body image more than to the body mass index. 4. Wrong body image affects eating attitudes, which may cause eating disorders. 5. To treat obesity or eating disorders, we must use psychosocial treatment, for example, supportive, cognitive or behavior therapy.
This study was carried out to investigate the effect of eating behavior, physical status and tendency of eating disorder on the right eating habit. The subjects of this study were 324 middle school students and 340 high school students in Osan city GyeongGi province. The average of weight and height in the middle and high school students were 48.7kg, 160.0cm and 56.8kg, 164.8cm respectively. In PIBW values, 92.9% of middle school students and 99.1% of high school students were almost close to the average. The 28.5% of high school and 21.5% of middle school students were aware of themselves as overweight. The risk of eating disorders in high school students(16.4%) were higher than that in middle school students(4.9%). Moreover, the risk of eating disorders in girls high school students(19.3%) was significantly higher than those of middle school students(5.2%) (p<0.001). The thought of food problems were realized in 57.4% of in high school students and in 39.9% of in middle school students. The intake of food group frequency, middle school students ate more fruit than high school students(p<0.01). Boys ate more frequently soy beans (p<0.05) and algae(p<0.1) than girls in high school students. The meat intake was more frequent in high school students, but the eggs and milk were more in middle school students. The boys' intakes of fish and milk were more often than the girls' in high school students. Eating disorders and food intake frequency scores were closely correlated with weights(PIBW and the gap of ideal. weight with real weight). In conclusion, the education about realizing exact healthy body shape and how to modify behavior to prevent eating disorders should be planned since junior high school. Especially in high school girls, the variety food intake education would be needed. Proper recognition of the weight is required for good food intake and for prevent eating disorders.
