Study on transmittance improvement of 90 twisted nematic liquid crystal display driven by fringe-electric frield (Fringe 전기장 구동 Twisted Nematic 액정 디스플레이의 투과율 향상 연구)

  • We investigated the electro-optic characteristics of a fringe-field driven twisted nematic (TN) display using a LC with negative dielectric anisotropy depending on electrode structures. The fringe-field driven TN mode known to exhibit wide viewing angle and excellent color characteristics over a wide viewing range and high transmittance. However, when the electrode width and distance between them is large enough, the transmittance is lower than the conventional vertical field-driven TN mode. By narrowing the electrode width and distance, the transmittance reaches the same value of the conventional TN mode.

Improved Efficiency and Lifetime for Organic Light-Emitting Devices Based on Mixed-Hole Transporting Layer (혼합된 정공 수송 층을 이용한 유기발광소자의 효율 및 수명 개선)

  • Organic light-emitting devices (OLEDs) with the high efficiency and long lifetime are of growing interest in next-generation displays. Among the factors influencing OLEDs properties, one of unstable factor is $Alq_3$ cationic species caused by the excess holes resided in $Alq_3$ layer. Therefore, we suppressed the accumulation of excess holes by using the mixed-hole transporting layer (MHTL) of NPB and CBP in multilayer green OLEDs. The devices with MHTL showed improved characteristics in the luminance efficiency and lifetime. More characteristics and the carrier transport mechanism will be discussed.

  • We report high performance poly (3-hexylthiophene) organic field-effect transistors fabricated on a plastic substrate. The polymer active channel layer was directly printed by the rubber stamp printing method with a pre-patterned elastomer stamp. As a result. organic transistors having average field-effect mobility of 0.079 $cm^2/Vs$ and on/off ratio of $10^4{\sim}10^5$ were realized on a plastic substrate. Also, through the investigation of the molecular ordering of rubber-stamp-printed poly (3-hexylthiophene) films using synchrotron grazing-incidence X-ray diffraction measurements, the films were found to have edge-on structure which is favorable in realizing high performance organic transistors.

Response Characteristics of Charged Particle Type Display (대전입자형 디스플레이의 응답특성)

  • We studied driving characteristics according to the ratio of mass and charging (m/q) value for charged toner particles with black and yellow color in charged particle type display panel. After biasing rectangle pulse to the transparency electrodes of putted panel with toner particles, its response time and contrast ratio are simultaneously measured using a laser as a optical source, photodiode as a detector and reflective system. As a results, contrast ratio is largest at the shortest response time region which is different to the particle because of m/q. We proposed relational equation for response time, m/q, cell gap and biasing voltage. It has not been studied and reported to analyze the relationship of response time, biasing voltage, lumping phenomena, cell gap, and contrast ratio for toner particle type display.

  • This paper represents the response surface model for the cell gap on the flexible liquid crystal display (LCD) process. Using response surface methodology (RSM). D-optimal design is carried out to build the design space and the cell gap is characterized by the quadratic model. The statistical analysis is used to verify the response surface model. This modeling technique can predict the characteristics of the desired response, cell gap, varying with process conditions.

  • The characteristics of write discharge were investigated when the conventional driving method with the unipolar sustain voltages, and the single sustain driving method applying the bipolar sustain voltage were applied in an AC plasma display. In the case of having a single sustain waveform, the strength of the write discharge is weakened compared to the conventional driving method during the address period, because the wall charge inside the panel is more dissipated by the lower scanning voltage. In the driving method with a single sustain waveform, the bias voltage of the other electrodes was changed to improve the write discharge characteristics. As a result, the intensity of the discharge was enhanced by 32% and the delay time was shortened by 60 ㎲.

  • Metal sulfide powders such as MnS, $MoS_2$ and FeS are simply used to the machinery processing improvement agent and solid lubricant in powder metallurgy industrial. And then, metal sulfide powders have received relatively little attention from powder metallurgy. Recently, the portable machine is one of the important interfaces between human or human and electronic machine. With the increase of the intelligent activity, the social and industrial demands for information display device and power source are increasing. The transition metal sulfide materials (FeS, ZnS) have received considerable attention due to the large variety of its electric, optical and magnetic properties. Among the metal sulfide, $FeS_2$ is appealing superior material for applications in $Li-2^{nd}$ battery because of high capacity. ZnS is also a famous phosphor material with various luminescence properties, such as photoluminescence (PL) and electroluminescence (EL). So generally used in the fields of display, sensors and laser. Metal sulfide materials, therefore, are provided for most widely application in all industries. In recent years, material researchers have become increasingly interested in studying with synthesis of metal sulfide.

The Effect of Wet Milling on Transparency of Transparent Dielectric in PDP

  • We report the effect of wet ball milling conditions on the transparency of glass frit. Generally, the particle size of glass frit decreased as the milling time increased. And the transparency of glass frit changed with the particle size variation. The transparency of glass frit A increased as the milling time increased. But, the transparency of glass frit B, containing high $B_2O_3$ decreased as the particle size decreased. It seems to be the result of chemical reaction with water and glass frit.

  • Organosiloxane based spin on planarizing dielectrics (PTS-E and PTS-R) were developed for application in flat panel displays as a replacement to conformal chemical vapor deposited SiNx. Here we demonstrate the successful use of siloxane-based material as a passivation layer for active matrix $\alpha$-Si thin film transistors (TFT) on both rigid and flexible substrates.

Development of new heat dissipated material in metal core PCB for LED backlight source

  • We report on carbon nano-fibers (CNFs) for applying to epoxy as a highly thermal conductive adhesive. In order to fabricate CNFs, electro-spinning process was performed with polyacrylonitrile (PAN) solutions. The sample was stabilized at the annealing temperature of $360^{\circ}C$, and carbonized from 900 to $1100^{\circ}C$. It is shown that the synthesized CNFs have a good thermal conductivity of several hundred W/m K. LED backlight units (BLUs) fabricated with MPCB using CNF-mixed epoxy give a better heat dissipation and higher performance than normal LED BLUs. On the basis of SEM, XRD, and FTIR, the characteristics of CNFs are described.
