  • Design, Simulation and experimental analysis of closed loop time domain based Discrete PWM buck-boost converter are described. To improve the transient response and dynamic stability of the proposed converter, Discrete PID controller is the most preferable one. Discrete controller does not require any precise analytical model of the system to be controlled. The control system of the converter is designed using digital PWM technique. The proposed controller improves the dynamic performance of the buck-boost converter by achieving a robust output voltage against load disturbances, input voltage variations and changes in circuit components. The converter is designed through simulation using MATLAB/Simulink and performance parameters are also measured. The discrete controller is implemented, and design goal is achieved and the same is verified against theoretical calculation using LabVIEW.

  • The states, inputs, outputs and parameters of a complex-system are all complex values. The introduction of such complex systems makes it more suitable to treat not only the robust control but also the pole assignment in the separate regions. The relation called "equivalence in the discrete sense" is introduced to define a complex-system corresponding to a real-system with real-axis poles as well as complex conjugate poles. The relation between the feedback-control laws of the equivalent systems in the discrete sense are derived so that their closed-loop systems should hold the equivalence in the discrete sense.ete sense.

  • We focus on discrete event systems with a structure of parallel processing, synchronization, and no-concurrency. We use max-plus algebra, which is an effective approach for controller design for this type of system, for modeling and formulation. Since a typical feature of this type of system is that the initial schedule is frequently changed due to unpredictable disturbances, we use a simple model and numerical examples to examine the possibility of applying the concepts of the feeding buffer and the project buffer of critical chain project management (CCPM) on max-plus linear discrete event systems in order to control the occurrence of an undesirable state change. The application of a CCPM-based framework on a max-plus linear discrete event system was proven to be effective.

  • This paper investigates the feasibility of the Bayesian discrete time approximation method to estimate the parameters of Weibull distributions of failures for two non-identical components connected in series system. A Bayesian model based on the discrete time approximation method is formulated to infer the Weibull parameters of two non-identical components with the failure data of the virtual tests. The study of this paper comes to a conclusion that the method is feasible only for some special cases under the given constraints on the concerned parameters.

  • This paper addresses on a $H_{\infty}$ sampled-data stabilization of a Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy system. The sampled-data stabilization problem is formulated as a discrete-time stabilization one via a direct discrete-time design approach. It is shown that the sampled-data fuzzy control system is asymptotically stable whenever its exactly discretized model is asymptotically stable. Based on an exact discrete-time model, sufficient design conditions are derived in the format of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs). An example is provided to illustrate the effectiveness of the proposed methodology.

  • As product lifecycles become shorter, factories are pushed to develop small batches of many different products. The highly flexible control systems has become a necessity. The majority of existing automated industrial systems are controlled by programmable logic controllers(PLCs). In most cases, the control programs for PLCs are developed based on ladder diagrams(LDs). However, it is difficult to debug and maintain those LDs because the synthesis of LD itself mainly depends on the experience of the industrial engineer via trial-and-error methods. Hence, in this paper, we propose a discrete event model conversion algorithm for systematic analysis of LDs. The proposed discrete event model conversion algorithm is illustrated by an example of a conveyor system.

  • The stability robustness problem of linear discrete-time systems with delayed time-varying perturbations is considered. Compared with continuous time system, little effort has been made for the discrete time system in this area. In the previous results, the bounds were derived for the case of non-delayed perturbations. There are few results for delayed perturbation. Although the results are for the delayed perturbation, they considered only the time-invariant perturbations. In this paper, the sufficient conditions for stability can be expressed as linear matrix inequalities(LMIs). The corresponding stability bounds are determined by LMI(Linear Matrix Inequality)-based algorithms. Numerical examples are given to compare with the previous results and show the effectiveness of the proposed results.

  • The purpose of Taguchi's robust design lies in quality improvement by making the performance of a system robust against noise. Robust design with continuous performance characteristics has been the subject of much interest. However relatively little work has been done for discrete characteristics such as 0-1, good-medium-bad, etc. This paper is concerned with robust design of a discrete dynamic system. We first investigate the Taguchi method for robust design with discrete dynamic characteristics and discuss his standard error probability (SEP). Then we propose a generalized SEP, which makes it possible to encompass a wider class of robust design problems. An illustration is also given by example.

  • In this paper we consider the variable structure control for a class of discrete-time uncertain multivariable systems where the nominal system is linear. Discrete-time switching dynamics are introduced so that a new type of state trajectories called sliding mode may exist on the sliding surface by state feedback. The quantitative analysis for the matched uncertainties will show that every response of the system with the proposed switching dynamics is bounded within small neighborhoods of the state-space origin. Also, by the similarity transformation it will be shown that the eigenvalues of the closed-loop systems are composed of those of the subsystems which govern the range-space dynamics and null-space dynamics. It will be also shown that ideal sliding mode can be obtained in the absence of uncertainties due to one-step attraction to the sliding surface regardless of initial position of states. • The damping ratio $\zeta$ of the unit-step response of a second-order discrete system is a function of only the location of the closed-loop poles and is not directly related to the location of the system zero. However, the peak overshoot of the response is the function of both the damping ratio $\zeta$ and an angle $\alpha$, which is the phasor angle of the damped sinusoidal response and is determined by the relative location of the zero with respect to the closed-loop poles. Accordingly, when the closed-loop system poles are fixed, the peak overshoot is considered as a function of the angle $\alpha$ or the system zero location. In this paper the effects of the relative location of the zero on the system performance of a second-order discrete system is studied, and a design method of digital compensator which achieves arbitrary steady-state response with minimum peak overshoot while maintaining the desired system mode and the damping ratio of the unit step response is presented.
