  • Molecular mapping of plant genomes has progressed rapidly since Bostein et al.(1980) introduced the idea of constructing linkage maps of human genome based on restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) markers. In recent years, the development of protein and DNA markers has stimulated interest for the new approaches to plant improvement. While classical maps based on morphological mutant markers have provided important insights into the plant genetics and cytology, the molecular maps based on molecular markers have a number of inherent advatages over classical genetic maps for the applications in genetic studies and/or breeding schemes. Isozymes and DNA markers are numerous, discrete, non-deleterious, codominant, and almost entirely free of environmental and epistatic interactions. For these reasons, they are widely used in constructing detailed linkage maps in a number of plant species. Plant breeders improve crops by selecting plants with desirable phenotypes. However a plant's phenotyes is often under genetic control, positioning at different "quantitative trait loci" (QTLs) together with environmental effects. Molecular maps provide a possible way to determine the effect of the individual gene that combines to produce a quantitative trait because the segregation of a large number of markers can be followed in a single genetic cross. Using market-assisted selection, plants that contain several favorable genes for the trait and do not contain unfavourable segments can be obtained during early breeding processes. Providing molecular maps are available, valuable data relevant to the taxonomic relationships and chromosome evolution can be accumulated by comparative mapping and also the structural relationships between linkage map and physical map can be identified by cDNA sequencing. After constructing high density maps, it will be possible to clone genes, whose products are unknown, such as semidwarf and disease resistance genes. However, much attention has to be paid to level-up the basic knowledge of genetics, physiology, biochemistry, plant pathology, entomology, microbiology, and so on. It must also be kept in mind that scientists in various fields will have to make another take off by intensive cooperation together for early integration and utilization of these newly emerging high-techs in practical breeding. breeding.

  • This paper proposes a new method which traces significant element of 2-dimensional natural images and encrypts them by using Fresnelet transform (FRNLT). After analyzing property of the subbands obtained by the FRNLT, we estimated the information for ciphering 2D images. Considering FRNLT levels, energy of subbands, and visual effect, we estimated the optimized point for encryption. By selecting various levels and encrypting region, we can encrypt 2D image with various robustness. Encryption effectiveness was showed by analyzing numerical result, executing time for encryption, area of encrypted region, and visual observation. Therefore encryption for various application can be applied by using the suggested parameters without additional analysis. Identifying the experimental result, in the case of $L_{TH}=4$ and $L_{TH}=4$, an image was not recognized through encrypting only 0.42% among the entire data.

  • PURPOSES : This study is to predict the Sound Pressure Level(SPL) obtained from the Noble Close ProXimity(NCPX) method by using the Extended Kalman Filter Algorithm employing the taylor series and Linear Regression Analysis based on the least square method. The objective of utilizing EKF Algorithm is to consider stochastically the effect of error because the Regression analysis is not the method for the statical approach. METHODS : For measuring the friction noise between the surface and vehicle's tire, NCPX method was used. With NCPX method, SPL can be obtained using the frequency analysis such as Discrete Fourier Transform(DFT), Fast Fourier Transform(FFT) and Constant Percentage Bandwidth(CPB) Analysis. In this research, CPB analysis was only conducted for deriving A-weighted SPL from the sound power level in terms of frequencies. EKF Algorithm and Regression analysis were performed for estimating the SPL regarding the vehicle velocities. RESULTS : The study has shown that the results related to the coefficient of determination and RMSE from EKF Algorithm have been improved by comparing to Regression analysis. CONCLUSIONS : The more the vehicle is fast, the more the SPL must be high. But in the results of EKF Algorithm, SPLs are irregular. The reason of that is the EKF algorithm can be reflected by the error covariance from the measurements.

  • Soybean phosphatidylcholine microparticles loaded with cyclosporin A (CsA) were prepared by the modified emulsion solvent diffusion and ionic gelation method, in which chitosan on the surface of the microparticles was crosslinked with various concentrations of tripolyphosphate (TPP). The morphology of the particles was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The change of particle size and zeta-potential by chitosan on the surface of the lipid microparticles were systematically observed. The encapsulation efficiency and loading capacity of CsA in the particles were determined by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). In vitro release kinetics was studied using the dialysis method. In the results, the mean particle size and the zeta-potential of lipid microparticles increased when the attached chitosan was cross-linked (from 2.5 to 6.2 ${\mu}m$ and from -37.0 to +93.0 mV, respectively). The cyclosporin A-loaded lipid microparticles appeared discrete and spherical particles with smooth surfaces. The encapsulation efficiency of CsA was between 79% and 90% while the loading capacity was between 41% and 56%. In vitro release study showed that the crosslinkage of chitosan by TPP significantly delayed the release of CsA from the particles in a concentration-dependent manner. Thus, the release of CsA from the lipid microparticles could be controlled by tripolyphosphate used as a cross-linking agent.

  • To reveal the spatial and temporal variability in the distribution, growth, and maturation of skipjack tuna Katsuwonus pelamis in the western tropical Pacific, we compared two El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$-Southern Oscillation (ENSO) signals and the sea surface temperature (SST) in the main fishing area with fishery and biological data. An index of skipjack tuna distribution was calculated using Korean purse seine fishery data from 1985 to 2003. Biological data for skipjack tuna were collected monthly from Korean catches during the 1994-2003 period. The catch was more closely related to the SST in the main fishing area than to the ENSO signals. However, cross-correlated function analysis showed delayed interactions between abiotic and biotic factors. The El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ events preceded the eastward movement of the fishing center by 2-3 months. El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ had a positive effect on the skipjack tuna catch, and the change in the Southern Oscillation Index (SOI) preceded the catch fluctuation by ca. 5-7 months. In addition, negative El $Ni{\tilde{n}}o$ effects on gonad maturation and the mean length of skipjack tuna were detected with time lags of 12 and 7 months, respectively. The length frequency indicated that the regime-specific growth pattern at each discrete period seemed to be related to the ENSO.

  • Stochastic processes are used to represent phenomena in many diverse fields. Numerical simulation method is widely applied for the solution to stochastic problems of complex structures when alternative analytical methods are not applicable. In some practical applications the stochastic processes show non-Gaussian properties. When the stochastic processes deviate significantly from Gaussian, techniques for their accurate simulation must be available. The various existing simulation methods of non-Gaussian stochastic processes generally can only simulate super-Gaussian stochastic processes with the high-peak characteristics. And these methodologies are usually complicated and time consuming, not sufficiently intuitive. By revealing the inherent coupling effect of the phase and amplitude part of discrete Fourier representation of random time series on the non-Gaussian features (such as skewness and kurtosis) through theoretical analysis and simulation experiments, this paper presents a novel approach for the simulation of non-Gaussian stochastic processes with the prescribed amplitude probability density function (PDF) and power spectral density (PSD) by amplitude modulation and phase reconstruction. As compared to previous spectral representation method using phase modulation to obtain a non-Gaussian amplitude distribution, this non-Gaussian phase reconstruction strategy is more straightforward and efficient, capable of simulating both super-Gaussian and sub-Gaussian stochastic processes. Another attractive feature of the method is that the whole process can be implemented efficiently using the Fast Fourier Transform. Cases studies demonstrate the efficiency and accuracy of the proposed algorithm.

  • Finite wordlength effect of the recursive implementation of SDFT(sliding-DFT) is analytically derived in this paper. Representation errors of the twiddle coefficients and the data registers are the two major causes of the spectral errors in the recursive implementation. The noise-to-signal ratio is analytically derived in terms of the coefficients wordlength, the data registers wordlength, and the DFT's block-length used in the computation Error dynamic equation is obtained from the recursive DFT and the probabilistic models for the coefficients error and the round-off error are introduced for the NSR derivation, The result of the NSR derivation is verified with the simulation data.

  • The purpose of this paper is to study the impact of brand personality on the choice of tour site. For this purpose, Japanese, Chinese and Korean tourists visiting Jeju-Ireland were sampled and asked to evaluate the personality dimensions and attributes of six major tour sites in Asia. Factor analysis is applied to 42 personality scales of Aaker and 5 personality dimensions are extracted. Then, Multinomial Logit model is applied to estimate the relative impact of personality dimensions and attributes on the choice of tour sites. Results suggest useful implications. The personality of tour sites has meaningful influence on choice of tour sites, in some cases more important than tour site attributes. Among 5 dimensions of personality, sincerity and excitement are found to be important dimensions in the choice process of tour site. Sophistication of the site, expressed as glamorous, charming, handsomeness, uniqueness, and smooth, is also found to be important in determining intention to visit in the future.

  • Digital watermarking is to embed imperceptible mark into image, video, audio, and text data to prevent the illegal copy of multimedia data. arbitrary modification, and also illegal sales of the copies without agreement of copyright ownership. In this paper, we study for the embedding and extraction of watermark key using wavelet in the luminance signal in order to implement the system to protect the copyright for image MPEG. First, the original image is analyzed into frequency domain by discrete wavelet transform. The RSA(Rivest, Shamir, Aldeman) public key of the coded target is RUN parameter of VLD(variable length coding). Because the high relationship among the adjacent RUN parameters effect the whole image, it prevents non-authorizer not to possess private key from behaving illegally. The Results show that the proposed method provides better moving picture and the distortion more key of insert than direct coded method on low-frequency domain based DCT.

  • In this paper, we propose a method for improving the performance of low complexity LS channel estimation for OFDM in fast time varying channels. The CE-BEM channel model used for the low complexity LS channel estimation has a problem on its own and deteriorates channel estimation performance. In this paper, we first use time domain windowing in order to remove the effect of ICI caused by data symbols. Then samples are taken from the results of the LS channel estimation and the effects of the windowing are removed from them. For resolving the defect of CE-BEM, the channel responses are recovered by interpolating the resultant samples with DPSS employed as basis functions the characteristics of which is well matched to the time variation of the channel. Computer simulations show that the proposed channel estimation method gives rise to performance improvement over conventional methods especially when channel variation is very fast and confirm that not only which type of functions is selected for the basis but how many functions are used for the basis is another key factor to performance improvement.
