  • The flow rate control of a cavitating venturi has been investigated with downstream pressure variation. A set of cavitating venturies for a liquid rocket engine thrust chamber firing test facility have been designed and manufactured. The flow characteristics of the cavitating venturies have been analyzed by experimental and computational methods. Results showed that constant mass flow rate condition was established by the cavitation inside the venturi. However, upstream pressure less than the actual design pressure of the cavitating venturi could not supply a constant flow rate.

  • Titanium carbide(TiC) films were deposited on stainless-steel sheets using HCD(Hollow Cathode Discharge) reactive ion plating. Acetylene gas was used as the reactant gas. The characteristics of TiC films were examined by X-Ray diffraction, $\alpha$-step, ESCA(Electron Spectroscopy for Chemical Analysis), and, AES(Auger Electron Spectroscopy). The results were discussed with regard to various deposition conditions(bias voltage, acetylene flow rate, temperature).

  • Over the last two decades, numerous experimental and numerical efforts have examined physical phenomena in plasma discharge devices. The physical mechanisms that govern the anomalous electron diffusion from the cathode to the anode in the Hall Effect Thruster (HET) are not fully understood. This work used 1-D numerical method to improve our understanding and gain insight into the effect of the anomalous electron diffusion in the HET. To this end, numerical solutions are compared with various experimental HET performance measurements and the effects of anomalous electron diffusion are analyzed. The relationships between the anomalous electron diffusion and important parameters of the HET are also studied quantitatively. The work identifies the cathode mass flow rate fraction, radial magnetic field distribution, and discharge voltage as significant factors that affect anomalous electron diffusion. Additionally, the study demonstrates a computational process to determine the radial magnetic field distribution required to achieve specific thruster performance goals.

  • Experimental study if die-sinking electrical discharge machining(EDM) was conducted with rotating electrode system including inside hole for increasing the material removal rate(MRR). With the help of dielectric fluid flow through the inside according to the different internal diameter of the hole, the molten workpiece debris could be removed and flushed out during the EDM, Cold die alloy(SKD-1) was executed for different peak current and duty factor. From this study, the MRR was found to be increased with the peak current. The more MRR was obtained for the case of electrode inside diam-eter of 10 mm, but the MRR was decreased as the diameter near at the 4mm and 6mm. The values of surface roughness and roundness were analyzed under various conditions, and these were affected by the inside diameter change of electrode.

  • The experimental study of die-sinking electrical discharge machining(EDM) was conducted for Cold Die Alloy Steel of SKD-11 with rotary electrode according to the peak current of 11A, 15A and 19A, and the duty factor of 0.24, 0.45. dielectric fluid flow through the electrode inside according to the change of electrode internal diameter during the EDM working. Material removal rate(MRR) was increased with flushing & rotation of electrode at the condition for the peak current of 15A, 19a but the MRR is decreased at the flushing only. The more surface roughness was obtained for the case of the flushing & rotation under the peak current of 19A.

  • We have developed a nanoparticle focusing mask which can generate particle arrays directly on the large area with high resolution. Using this mask, nanomaterials are precisely deposited onto desired positions on a substrate surface. We obtained various sizes of arrays ranging from 80 nm to 6 ${\mu}m$ with silver and copper nanoparticles that are generated by a spark discharge and an evaporation-condensation method. The feather size is much smaller than that of mask openings due to the focusing effects, like electrostatic lens, caused by charge or electric potential on insulator mask surface, which also prevent a mask clogging. The particle array size depends on the size of mask open patterns and focusing effects near the mask relate to ion flow rate and electric potential. We have demonstrated that diverse size of arrays with high resolution could be obtained repeatedly using the same sized mask in atmosphere.

  • The spurt vacuum pump is widely used to transfer sludge and slurry, and to control flow rate in a variety of processing fields, such as the oil, chemical, and fiber industries. The efficiency of the pump depends on the design parameters of the impeller, such as the number of blades, and the blade angle. In this study, the effect of the configuration of the impeller discharge angle of a spurt vacuum pump, which influences total head, shaft power, and efficiency, was numerically investigated using the commercial code, ANSYS CFX ver. 16.1. In addition, the performance of the pump was evaluated on the basis of the correlations between the total head, pump efficiency, and pressure distribution.

  • Ozone concentration and flow rate of discharge tube were measured using LabVIEW program in data acquisition part and it was saved. In addition, quantities of ozone generation was adjusted by the collected data, which was performed at control part. Therefore, energy efficiency was improved by suppling quantities of ozone generation according to environmental conditions.

  • In this study we attempted to diagnose the distribution of nitrogen plasma density generated using PECVD(plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition). The distribution of plasma density formed in a PECVD chamber were measured by DLP2000. The experiment results showed that the plasma density is related to RF power and gas flow rate. As RF power gets higher, the plasma density linearly increased. And the experimental results revealed that a pressure in chamber affects plasma density.

  • Recently, from the viewpoint of global wanning, natural gas CO2 is considered as a main refrigerant for hot water system. The characteristics of CO2 is not toxic, not flammable, high pressure, and high refrigerating capacity. Also it is widely available as a byproduct of industrial processes. This paper describes the performance analysis program of the swash plate type compressor using CO2 refrigerant. Estimates of the refrigerant flow rate, compression work, discharge temperature and volumetric, compressor efficiencies of the CO2 swash plate type compressor are obtained from the various design parameter such as the inclination angle of the swash plate, discharge hole area and suction hole area.
