The purpose of this study was to analyze the state of housing and domestic living conditions of Vietnamese individuals in Vietnam and Korea. Using ethnographic methodologies, It was examined examined 22 Vietnamese households in Korea in relation to their usage of domestic space and also conducted the same investigation on 20 Vietnamese households in Vietnam. The following conclusion were established; 1) The majority of households in both countries preferred that the kitchen was close to the dining room and living room while a kitchen door was not deemed as necessary. 2) In Korea, washing machines are used in the bathroom space, while in Vietnam they are used outside or in a specially designated space. 3) The most uncomfortable aspect of home life in Korea was having the bathroom and toilet in the same space while in Vietnam they are separately spaced. It is recommended that house plans with separate bathroom and toilet area be made available for Vietnamese migrants. 4) Chairs were used in the sleeping area for eating, especially if guests were present, but the floor space was also used for eating. 5) Tile is a typical floor material in Vietnam while vinyl is popular in Korea. However, migrant workers were comfortable with both materials. 6) All 20 households didn't have any heating system in Vietnam but most migrants preferred a modified Ondol in Korea. 7) Most migrants took their shoes off while inside the house in Vietnam and Korea. Furthermore, the majority of households didn’t have any designated shoes space at the entrance to the house in Vietnam and most were satisfied with the same situation in korea. 8) Most households in Vietnam and Korea preferred to decorate their living room with various things or as a place of worship to their ancestors. The direction of house was an important element when deciding to buy or building houses in both countries.

Among welfare facilities for the elderly, necessity for the elderly welfare with diverse advantages is rising in the Small-scale Elderly Care Facilities. The government is expecting great demand in the future. However, current the Facilities lack construction plans that consider characteristics of the elderly. Accordingly, 14 case facilities located in JeollaNamdo and Gwangju were selected to comprehensively analyze the circulation of seniors at care facilities by computing spatial depth and visible area variables. As a result of this study, average spatial depth of bathroom, resting room, physical therapy room and dining hall that seniors frequently get in contact with was found to be deep, but visible area appropriate for the function of space was not available. It showed that the circulation for the elderly was deep spatially and long physically, and the spatial rank along circulation which is perceived visually by the admitted the elderly was clear, thus, providing them abundant visual experience supported by high openness as they move from private space to public space. The obtained visibility, however, was observed not to be matched with the function of each space. Since the Small-scale Elderly Care Facilities require various spaces within small surface area, actual functions of each space must be taken into consideration with hierarchical space organization to obtain an environment that stimulates senses such as vision and hearing. In addition, since the circulation of seniors using facilities must consider aging characteristics and delicate care on spatial depth and physical distances, in-depth studies on planning of the circulation in care facilities are deemed necessary.
The purpose of this study was to examine the application tendency about the interior elements of the western classical style which appears in Korean residential space. The examined objects were 324 pictures of 99 residential spaces from the different monthly magazines between Sep.1994 to Sep.1999. The results of this study were as follows: 1. The tendency of application according to the kind of space, it has appeared much in Iivingroom, master bedroom and dining room of apartments and houses. As for the single application in residential space, Rococo and Neo-Classic style was shown most, and the cases applied through the mixture of Renaissance style and Nee-classic style appeared most. 2. The tendency of application arroding to the interior elements of space, the wall of Nee-Classic style and the ceiling of Renaissance style, the window and door of Nee-classic style, and the furniture of Rococo style were being applied much.
This research is intended to provide basal material on institute composition of nursing homes that will be built in the near future. According to the result, five of the passages are central type, one of them is extensive type, and the other is group type. Secondly, in living space bedroom area is widest, and both sizes of bedroom system and floor heating system are the same. Thirdly, the sizes of clinic room and physical therapy room are similarly widest in medical space, and people use physical therapy room most frequently. Fourth, dining room and kitchen area are widest in public space, and it is hard to move to program room. Fifth, office area is widest in superintendent space, and it is located near lobby on the first floor. Sixth, the dimension per individual doesn't reach the standard of bedroom size per individual. Seventh, in each space, the rate of whole dimension of living space is highest.

Purpose: At the moment, a lot of poor older people live in permanent rental housing in Korea. But many rental apartments are not suitable for elderly living because most of them have many problems related to the lack of accessibility and adaptability for older people with physical and mental disabilities. So it is necessary to upgrade the old permanent rental housing for convenience of elderly living. The purpose of this paper is to construct basic data for remodeling of worn out and small rental housing block in order to realize the concept of "Aging in Place". Methods: Questionnaires and interviews about elderly living have been conducted on 104 elderly who live in Suwon Wooman permanent rental apartment block which was constructed 21 years ago. From the collected data, dining pattern, inconvenient area, small area, satisfaction level on unit area and demand for unit expansion type have been analysed in order to find out the direction for remodeling of permanent rental apartment unit. Results: The problems of existing permanent rental apartment can be summarized into improper laundry space, small dining area, inconvenient bath and so on. According to the family size, the elderly resident has the different preference about the expansion type of his resident unit. Big families usually want to enlarge their living unit though they pay for additional monthly rental fee. Implications: Lifetime home concept adopting Universal Design has to be applied to the whole residential block especially to the social rental housing. And this concept had better be expanded to Lifetime neighbor design.
The study is the analysis on Oe-am village which is designated as a folk-preservation village in 1988 and is included in the fact of the dwelling change through Spot-Survey and Case-Investigation in the last decade from now(2001), The result shows the main change on the stand-up dining room installation, the place with the boiler and bathroom installation, the additional expansion through the combination of the small twice or third space, the using change, the prototype restoration. The reason of this change is shown the following. 1. There is the dual structure that the villager repairs that because the repairing operation is biased the prototype restoration since the government construction. 2. The internal change is come from more at thatched house than at tiled house and the order of the main element's change is Kitchen (35%), main room (30%), living room (24%) and other rest room (11%). 3. The change of the dining room in the internal composition material is the strongest and the change is included in the using change, the installation of the new sub-division in the spot and the expansion of the outside if necessary. The reason of the main change is life-style's. Therefore we can know the change of the dwelling structure and we are able to make a modern-life. Also, If the restoration or repair is necessary, the change element on that must be considered.
Teacher's satisfaction with school lunch programs run by foodservice(FS) management types were surveyed with questionnaire at 5 middle and 4 elementary schools. The 88 middle and 104 elementary school teachers who participated and schools' FS management were of 5 types : self/conventional, contracted/conventional, contracted/commissary and contracted/dosirak delivery. Most teachers knew correctly their schools' present FS management types and thoroughly understood the main reasons for needing school lunch program with proper nutrition, better taste and balanced diets in addition to the first reason its less work than preparing homelunches. Teacher's satisfactions with their present school FS were high in self/conventional and contracted/conventional and was very low in contracted/commissary and contracted/ dosirak Taste, hygiene, nutrition and dining facilities in turn were pointed out to be improved : firstly hygiene in the self and firstly taste in the contracted. Particularly dining-rooms were found to have narrow space, uncomfortable chairs and tables, unclean, and having unpleasant smells. Teachers observed that the overall students' food habits such as eating more various foods and better table manners through that school lunch programs, particularly the self-managed types were improved. Conclusively most teachers emphasized school lunch programs to be continued and preferred self-managed types and contracted/conventional types as the second best in having less work to manage, better, taste, nutrition and hygiene, less cost and better nutrition education in turn. And they thought school founders should handle the finances needed to newly establish or repair the school FD facilities, otherwise provided with the partial aid of student's parents.
The objective of this research is to provide basic materials for future development of unit household plane of lease apartment house by comparing and analyzing the unit household plane of SH Corporation lease apartment house in Korea and PHA apartment house in the state of Minnesota, USA. For this purpose, the researcher chose 8 SH Corporation lease apartment houses in Yangcheon-gu Korea and 16 PHA apartment houses in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA. Drawing of 8 complexes of Korea SH Corporation, literary materials collected by Korea House Corporation and SH Corporation and the plane of USA were analyzed and the unit household plane of Korea and USA were processed by CAD to ensure exact analysis. Based on the drawing for CAD, the materialization work was implemented. The total size of materialized drawing and size of each room was drawn by using 'CAD POWER 2005' program. The result of this research is as follows. The plane of SH Corporation lease apartment house shows the difference in the plane composition from 12 pyung. Since LIVING ROOM is described in the drawing, the living room and bedroom seen in the existing size less than 12 pyung become independent as they are separate. While SH Corporation is composed in the form of kitchen that functions as dining room, living room functions as dining room in PHA. While SH Corporation shows 5 types, PHA shows different pattern in each complex. This is probably because PHA has diverse complexes. All planes of SH Corporation have entrance, which reflect the own character of Korea as it is. In PHA, the portion of receipt and storage space is very high.
The purposes of this study were to examine the characteristics of elements composing the cultural identity of Chinese architectural and spatial design, and to analyze the expression characteristics and influencing factors of contemporary restaurant design. With these purposes, first, this study reviewed related literature in order to find the characteristics of tangible elements observed in intangible elements and space expression characteristics forming the cultural identity of China. Second, this study conducted a case study in order to understand the expression characteristics of the design of Chinese restaurants in Shanghai and to find factors influencing the design. In order to sample the subjects of the case study, the researcher selected 18 restaurants that were recommended repeatedly in books on Chinese restaurants and tourism and major Internet sites or highly evaluated by visitors, and then choose 15 of them that were found to be fit for the purpose of the survey. According to the result of the survey, the restaurants were largely grouped by type into 10 cases of fine dining, 3 of middle-class casual dining, 1 of fast food, and 1 of luxury tea house serving traditional tea and snacks. Of these restaurants, 46.7% (7 cases) were of CM-CM-CM type, namely, using contemporary simple elements in all of external spaces, indoor spaces, and decorations, 20% (3 cases) were of CM-CM-CT type, using contemporary and simple external and indoor spaces, and traditional furniture or articles, 20% (3 cases) were of CT-CM-CT type, using traditional external spaces such as traditional buildings, contemporary simple finishing of indoor spaces, and traditional articles such as palace lanterns and traditional doors and windows, and 13.3% (2 cases) were of CT-CT-CT type, using traditional elements in their original forms in general. Through this research and survey, cultural identity showing Chinese traditions observed in the expression characteristics of restaurant spatial designs was confirmed, and it was also found that the identity was underlain by ideologies, values, lifestyles, etc. that had long accumulated through the long history of the country and exerted a great influence.

Though a variety of demands for an green dwelling, it is hard to diffuse a wooden house due to high construction cost. So this study aims to diffuse to propose a space modular for production and supply. Therefore the result of investigation to the space modular of each room through the survey of width and depth in the type of dwelling in korea is as follows. 1) Investigated the mixture of magnitude on the total width and depth, the survey is showed commonly 3.6m and 4.2m. 2) Once the depth is 3.6m, a living room and inner room, room's width is 3.9m, 4.5m. Once the depth is 4.2m, those width is 4.8m. 3) By use of a survey, the post distances consisted of all rooms are 3.6m, 3.9m, 4.2m, 4.5m, 4.8m. The result of investigation to possibility for mixture applied to six level types invested post modules to the wooden house of post & Beam method is as follows. 1) With the regularity of depth and simplicity of width, It is potential to compound floor plan in korea. 2) It is possible to plan an informal shape of kitchen+dining room which is a spare space available for the merit changeable space after arranged main rooms. 3) It is possible to plan a space through a variety of mixture method at bathroom. Thus, it is possible for a variety of floor formations to build a low-cost wooden house through five types of post distance.
