In this study, the variation of the cutting forces generated in the machining process were evaluated experimentally. A material of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ ceramic and a tool of the dynamometer were used for the measurements of the cutting forces. With the constant rates of the feed and the tool rotation, the cutting forces were measured along three axial directions(X, Y, Z axis) for the various values of the hollow ratio. It was found that the cutting force be increasing linearly along the direction of Z axis, but along X, Y axis be not varied. Also from the viewpoint of the precesses of the hole drilling, the cutting force was found to be increasing sharply at the beginning process, but from the eighth process be increasing smoothly. As conclusions, the cutting force generated by machining for the material of $Al_{2}O_{3}$ ceramic are influenced more significantly by the feed rate and the hollow ratio than by the tool rotational speed.

As optical communication is being substituted for telecommunication, the demand of a large variety of fiber optic components is increasing. V-groove substrates, one of the module components, are used to connect optical fibers to optical planar circuits and to arrange fibers. Their applications are multi-channel optical connectors and optical waveguide fiber coupling, etc. Because these substrates are a critical part of the splitter in a multiplexer and a multi fiber connector, precise and reliable fabrication process is required. For precisely aligning core pitch between fibers, machined core pitch tolerance should be within sub-microns. Therefore, these are generally produced by state-of-the-art micro-fabrication like MEMS. However, most of the process equipment is very expensive. It is also difficult to change the process line for custom designs to meet specific requirements using various materials. For various design specifications such as different values of the V angle and low-priced process, the fabrication method should be flexible and low cost. To achieve this goal, we have suggested a miniaturized machine tool with high accuracy positioning system. Through this study, it is shown that this cutting process can be applied to produce V-groove subtracts. We also show the possibility of using a miniaturized machining system for producing small parts.
Recently, several studies are being conducted to achieve a curvature of 180° or more for the edge of the display glass. The thermocompression molding process is applied to the manufacture of curved glass, and high hardness G5 graphite is used as the mold material to withstand the impact applied to the mold. G5 graphite has high hardness and strong brittleness, which makes tool wear and surface damage easy during machining. Therefore, the demand for diamond-coated tools with good mechanical properties is increasing in the G5 machining field. In this study, the optimal cutting conditions and machinability of a nanodiamond (NCD) coated ball end mill being developed by a tool manufacturer were analyzed and evaluated. For this purpose, the same test was performed on the microdiamond (MCD) coated ball end mill and compared together. In summary, the machinability of MCD and NCD coated tools showed better cutting performance at a cutting speed of 282 m/min, a feed rate of 1,400 mm/min, and a radial depth of cut of 0.08 to 0.1 mm.
The liquid-phase sintering method was used to prepare a glass lens forming core composed of SiC-$Al_2O_3-Y_2O_3$. Spark plasma sintering was used to obtain dense sintered bodies. The sintering characteristics of different SiC sources and compositions of additives were studied. Results revealed that, owing to its initial larger surface area, $\alpha$-SiC offers sinterability that is superior to that of $\beta$-SiC. A maximum density of $3.32\;g/cm^3$ (theoretical density [TD] of 99.7%) was obtained in $\alpha$-SiC-10 wt% ($6Al_2O_3-4Y_2O_3$) sintered at $1850^{\circ}C$ without high-energy ball milling. The maximum hardness and compression stress of the sintered body reached 2870 Hv and 1110 MPa, respectively. The optimum ultra-precision machining parameters were a grinding speed of 1243 m/min, work spindle rotation rate of 100 rpm, feed rate of 0.5 mm/min, and depth of cut of $0.2\;{\mu}m$. The surface roughnesses of the thus prepared final products were Ra = 4.3 nm and Rt = 55.3 nm for the aspheric lens forming core and Ra = 4.4 nm and Rt = 41.9 for the spherical lens forming core. These values were found to be sufficiently low, and the cores showed good compatibility between SiC and the diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating material. Thus, these glass lens forming cores have great potential for application in the lens industry.

3D images are generally manufactured by complex production processes. We suggested a simple method to make 3D images based on a mechanical machining technology in this study. We designed a tetrahedron consisted of many arcs having the depth of $100{\mu}m$ and the pitch of $500{\mu}m$, and machined them on an aluminum plate using end-milling under several conditions of feed-rate and depth of cut. The area of undeformed chip including depth of cut and feed-rate can predict quality of the machined arcs more precisely than the undeformed chip thickness including only feed rate. Moreover, a diamond tool can improve the quality than a CBN tool when many arcs are machined. Based on the analysis, the designed tetrahedron having many arcs was machined with no burr, and it showed different images when observed from the left and right directions. Therefore, it is verified that a 3D image can be designed and manufactured on a metal plate by end-milling under optimized machining conditions.

The motivation of this work is to use SAM(Self-Assembled Monolayer) for developing a rapid and flexible non-photolithographic nano-structure fabrication technique which can be utilized in micro-machining of metals as well as silicon-based materials. The fabrication technique implemented in this work consists of a two-step process, namely, mechanical scribing followed by chemical etching. From the experimental results, it was found that thiol on copper surface could be removed even under a few nN normal load. The nano-tribological characteristics of thiol-SAM on various metals were largely dependent on the native oxide layer of metals. Based on these findings, nano-patterns with sub-micrometer width and depth on metal surfaces such as Cu, Au and Ag could be obtained using a diamond-coated tip.

Recently, a slightest influence to the circuit can be a great damage because the size of semiconductor smaller. It must be controlled the chippingless dicing process and the precision dicing without any damage to tile circuit. In this study, the relationship between chipping effect and the force of dicing was analysed. The rate of chipping was decreased as the farce of dicing decreased. It was also examined that the farce of dicing decreased according to the lower feed rate and higher blade speed. The lower feed rate and the higher blade speed must be controlled to achieve the chippingless process.

Electrolytic In-Process Dressing grinding technique which enables application of metal bond wheels with fine superabrasives in mirror surface grinding operations has developed. This paper provides charateristic evaluation of power supply supply that we developed and general charateristics of ELID grinding. The electric behaviors are compared each about two different electrode which has 1/4, 1/6 the area of entire wheel surface, and two different fluids which has 1:50, 1:30 the quantity of water was used to dillute grinding fluids. The results show that ELID grinding method is useful for mirror surface machining.
