A rotor flux error-based approach for correcting the rotor time constant estimation used in the slip frequency calculator of indirect field oriented controller is presented in this paper. The controller was derived from the d-q induction machine model. Slip frequency gain is dependent on the machine parameter errors. And parameter errors result in rotor flux error. Thus, estimated rotor flux is compared to commanded rotor flux. The error between them is used for the estimation of rotor time constant. Simulation results which demonstrate the performance of this approach are presented.
The Barnes scheme is used in Digital Forecast System (DFS) of the Korea Meteorological Administration (KMA) for real-time analysis. This scheme is an objective analysis scheme with a distance-dependent weighted average. It has been widely used for mesoscale analyses in limited geographic areas. The isotropic Gaussian weight function with a constant effective radius might not be suitable for certain conditions. In particular, the analysis error can be increased for stations located near mountains. The terrain of South Korea is covered with mountains and wide plains that are between successive mountain ranges. Thus, it is needed to consider the terrain effect with the information of elevations for each station. In order to improve the accuracy of the temperature objective analysis, we modified the weight function which is dependent on a distance and elevation in the Barnes scheme. We compared the results from the Barnes scheme used in the DFS (referred to CTL) with the new scheme (referred to EXP) during a year of 2009 in this study. The analysis error of the temperature field was verified by the root-mean-square-error (RMSE), mean error (ME), and Priestley skill score (PSS) at the DFS observation stations which is not used in objective analysis. The verification result shows that the RMSE and ME values are 1.68 and -0.41 in CTL and 1.42 and -0.16 in EXP, respectively. In aspect of spatial verification, we found that the RSME and ME values of EXP decreased in the vicinity of Jirisan (Mt. Jiri) and Taebaek Mountains. This indicates that the new scheme performed better in temperature verification during the year 2009 than the previous scheme.
In this paper, a two-stage recognition approach based on error pattern hypotheses is proposed to reduce errors of a connected digit recognizer. In the approach, a conventional recognizer is first used to produce N-best candidate strings, and then error patterns are hypothesized by examining the candidate strings. For substitution error pattern hypotheses, error-pattern-dependent classifiers having more discriminative power than the first-stage classifier are used ; and for insertion and deletion errors, word duration and energy contour information are exploited are exploited to discriminated confusing pairs. Simulation results showed that the proposed approach achieves 15% decrease in word error rate for speaker-independent Korean connected digit recognition when a hidden Markov model-based recognizer is used for the first-stage classifier.
In this paper, we propose a modified Viterbi algorithm to compensate for endpoint detection error during the decoding phase of an isolated word recognition task. Since the conventional Viterbi algorithm explores only the search space whose boundaries are fixed to the endpoints of the segmented utterance by the endpoint detector, the recognition performance is highly dependent on the accuracy level of endpoint detection. Inaccurately segmented word boundaries lead directly to recognition error. In order to relax the degradation of recognition accuracy due to endpoint detection error, we describe an unconstrained search of word boundaries and present an algorithm to explore the search space with efficiency. The proposed algorithm was evaluated by performing a variety of simulated endpoint detection error cases on an isolated word recognition task. The proposed algorithm reduced the Word Error Rate (WER) considerably, from 84.4% to 10.6%, while consuming only a little more computation power.
Bit error rate (BER) monitoring is the ultimate goal of performance monitoring in all digital transmission systems as well as optical fiber transmission systems. To achieve this goal, optimization of the decision threshold must also be considered because BER is dependent on the level of decision threshold. In this paper, we analyze a pseudo-error counting scheme and propose an algorithm to achieve both BER monitoring and adaptive decision threshold optimization in optical fiber transmission systems. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm, we conduct computer simulations in both Gaussian and non-Gaussian distribution cases. According to the simulation results, BER and the optimum decision threshold can be estimated with the errors of < 20% and < 10 mV, respectively, within 0.1-s processing time in > 40-Gb/s transmission systems.
In this paper, the radial error of a rotary table at five-axis machine tool is evaluated by utilizing ISO 230-2 and estimation method using double ball-bar. The geometric error of a rotary table is defined as position dependent geometric errors or position independent geometric errors according to their physical character. Then estimation method of geometric errors using double ball-bar is simply summarized including measurement path, parametric modeling and least squares approach. To estimate representative radial error, offset error, set-up error which affect to the double ball-bar data, mean value of measured data including CCW/CW-direction are used at estimation process. Radial errors are separated from measured data and used for evaluation with ISO 230-2. Finally, suggested evaluation method is applied to a rotary table at five-axis machine tool and its result is analyzed to improve the accuracy of the rotary table.
In this paper, stochastically dependent single and sequential acceptance sampling plans are dealt when the process follows a Polya process model. A Monte-Cairo algorithm is used to find the acceptance and rejection probabilities of a lot. The number of defectives for the test to be accepted and rejected in a probability ratio sequential test can be found by using these probabilities. The formula to measure performance of these sampling plans is developed. Type I and II error probabilities are estimated by simulation. Dependent multiple acceptance sampling plans can be derived by extending the sequential sampling procedure. In numerical examples, single and sequential sampling plans of a Polya dependent process are examined and the characteristics are compared according to the change of the dependency factor.
The success of target reconstruction in SAR(Synthetic Aperture Radar) imaging system is greatly dependent on the coherent detection. Primary causes of incoherent detection are uncompensated target or sensor motion, random turbulence in propagation media, wrong path in radar platform, and etc. And these appear as multiplicative phase error to the echoed signal, which consequently, causes fatal degradations such as fading or dislocation of target image. In this paper, we present iterative phase error estimation scheme which uses echoed data in all temporal frequencies. We started with analyzing wave equation for one point target and extend to overall echoed data from the target scene - The two wave equations governing the SAR signal at two temporal frequencies of the radar signal are combined to derive a method to reconstruct the complex phase error function. Eventually, this operation attains phase error correction algorithm from the total received SAR signal. We verify the success of the proposed algorithm by applying it to the simulated spotlight-mode SAR data.
A split shaft device is commonly used to measure the radial force of lip seals. The radial force measured with this device includes some inevitable error. This error is caused by the fact that the split shafts cannot maintain a perfect circle when the interference becomes larger or smaller than some initial interference. In this study, a theoretical model for the calculation of the radial contact force has been carried out, and an explicit equation for the measurement error as a function of the initial interference and the interference to be measured has been obtained. The error when the interference is small is not dependent upon the material properties and the shape of the lip seal, but rather upon the amplitude of the initial interference and the interference to be measured. When the interference is larger or smaller than the initial interference, the measured contact force is always underestimated or overestimated.

This paper proposes an abnormal V-shaped-error-free non-blind deconvolution technique featuring an adaptively segmented forward-problem based iterative deconvolution (ASDCN) process. Unlike the algebraic based inverse operations, this eliminates any operations of differential and division by zero to successfully circumvent the issue on the abnormal V-shaped error. This effectiveness has been demonstrated for the first time with applying to a real analysis for the effects of the Random Telegraph Noise (RTN) and/or Random Dopant Fluctuation (RDF) on the overall SRAM margin variations. It has been shown that the proposed ASDCN technique can reduce its relative errors of RTN deconvolution by $10^{13}$ to $10^{15}$ fold, which are good enough for avoiding the abnormal ringing errors in the RTN deconvolution process. This enables to suppress the cdf error of the convolution of the RTN with the RDF (i.e., fail-bit-count error) to $1/10^{10}$ error for the conventional algorithm.
