  • Due to the recent progress in information technology, demand for video imaging devices such as displays has grown. In general, images experience deterioration during the process of transmission due to various reasons. Many studies have boon undertaken on ways o reduce such noise. This paper6 suggests an algorithm that makes a judgment on the noise in order to remove the salt & pepper noise and replaces original pixels if they are non-noise while processing noise according to its density. The suggested algorithm shows a high PSNR of 30.49[dB] for Goldhill images that had been damaged of a high density salt & pepper noise(P = 60%), Compared to the exising CWMF, SWMF, and A-TMF, there were improvements by 17.74[dB], 11.52[dB], and 13.76[dB], respectively.

  • Since sapphire single crystal is one of the materials that have excellent mechanical and optical properties, the single crystal is widely used in various fields, and the demand for the use of substrate of LED devices is increasing rapidly. However, crystal defects such as dislocations and stacking faults worsen the properties of the single crystal intensely. When sapphire wafer of single crystal is used as LED substrate, especially, crystal defects have a strong influence on the characteristics of a film deposited on the wafer. In such a case quantitative assessment of the defects is essential, and the evaluation technique is now becoming one of the most important factors in commercialization of sapphire wafer. Wet etching is comparatively easy and accurate method to estimate dislocation density of single crystal because etching reaction primarily takes place where dislocations reached crystal surface which are chemically weak points, and produces etch pit. In the present study, the formation behavior of etch pits and etching time dependence were studied systematically. Etch pit density(EPD) analysis using optical microscope was also conducted and measurement uncertainty of EPD was studied to confirm the reliability of the results. EPDs and measurement uncertainties for 4 inch sapphire wafers were analyzed in terms of 5 and 21 points EPD readings. EPDs and measurement uncertainties in terms of 5 points readings for 4 inch wafers were compared by 2 organizations. We found that the average EPD value in terms of 5 points readings for a 4 inch sapphire wafer may represent the EPD value of the wafer.

  • Although seagrasses are relatively abundant, few studies have been conducted on seagrass physiology and ecology in Korea. Zostera marina is the most abundant seagrass species, widely distributed throughout all coastal areas of the Korean peninsula. To examine seasonal dynamics and spatial variations of eelgrass, Zostera marina distributed on the coast of Korea, morphological characteristics, biomass, tissue nutrient constituents, leaf productivity and environmental factors were monitored monthly from the eelgrass beds in Kabae Bay and Kosung Bay on the south coast of the Korean peninsula from June 2001 to June 2002. Eelgrass density, biomass, morphological characteristics, leaf productivities, and tissue nutrient constituents exhibited clear seasonal variations, and these seasonal trends reflected seasonal changes in water temperature. Eelgrass shoot density and biomass at Kabae Bay site showed more obvious seasonal trends than Kosung Bay. No strong seasonality in Kosung Bay site appeared to be caused by high water temperature ($>30{\circ}C$) during summer months at this site. Despite differences in nutrient availabilities between two study sites, eelgrass biomass and leaf productivities were not significantly different between study sites, and this lack of spatial variations implies that the ambient nutrient availabilities at the present study sites are in excess of seagrass nutrient demand. Eelgrass tissue N content and sediment pore water DIN concentrations exhibited reverse relationship at the present study. This reverse relationship suggests in situ nutrient concentrations are not good indicator of nutrient availabilities, and regeneration and turnover rates of sediment nutrients are also important factors to determine nutrient availabilities at the site.

  • Three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D IC) technology has become increasingly important due to the demand for high system performance and functionality. We have evaluated the effect of Buffered oxide etch (BOE) on the interfacial bonding strength of Cu-Cu pattern direct bonding. X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis of Cu surface revealed that Cu surface oxide layer was partially removed by BOE 2min. Two 8-inch Cu pattern wafers were bonded at $400^{\circ}C$ via the thermo-compression method. The interfacial adhesion energy of Cu-Cu bonding was quantitatively measured by the four-point bending method. After BOE 2min wet etching, the measured interfacial adhesion energies of pattern density for 0.06, 0.09, and 0.23 were $4.52J/m^2$, $5.06J/m^2$ and $3.42J/m^2$, respectively, which were lower than $5J/m^2$. Therefore, the effective removal of Cu surface oxide is critical to have reliable bonding quality of Cu pattern direct bonds.

  • With the recent development of communication equipment, the demand for communication equipment is gradually increasing. Accordingly, various signal processing has been studied. In the case of an image, noise removal is an indispensable step because noise propagation problems may occur if noise is not removed in the pre-processing process. Salt and Pepper noise is a typical impulse noise with two extremes. Various studies have been conducted to remove such noise, and there are CWMF, MF and MMF. However, the existing methods are somewhat insufficient in the high-density noise region. Therefore, in this study, we have proposed an algorithm that filters the size of the mask according to the number of noises inside the 7×7 mask and filters it with a modified switching filter using the histogram distribution of the image. In the case of the proposed algorithm, noise can be effectively removed in a high-density noise region. For objective judgment, PSNR was used to compare and analyze with existing algorithms.

  • Background: Zanthoxylum armatum is one of the 30 prioritized medicinal plants for economic development of Nepal with a high trade value. Understanding the ecology of individual species is important for conservation and cultivation purposes. However, relation of ecological factors on the distribution and populations of Z. armatum in Nepal remain unknown. To address this knowledge gap, an attempt has been made to study the population structure, distribution, and regeneration potentiality of Z. armatum. Vegetation sampling was conducted at six different localities of Salyan district along the elevation range of 1,000 m to 2,000 m. Results: Altogether 50 plant species belonging to 44 genera under 34 families were found to be associated with Z. armatum. Significantly higher species richness was found at Rim (1,400-1,700 m) and Chhatreshwori (1,800-2,000 m) and lower at Kupinde (1,600-1,800 m). The highest population density of Z. armatum was at Kupinde (1,600-1,800 m) with a total of 1,100 individuals/ha. and the lowest at Chhatreshwori (1,800-2,000 m) with 740 individuals/ha. Based on the A/F value (Whitford index), it can be said that Z. armatum has random distribution in the study area. The plants were categorized into seedlings, saplings and adults based on plant height and the status of natural regeneration category determined. The regeneration potentiality of Z. armatum in the study area was fair with the average seedlings and saplings densities of 150 and 100 individuals/ha. Respectively. A Shannon-Weinner index mean value of 2.8 was obtained suggesting high species diversity in the study area. Conclusions: The natural distribution and regeneration of Z. armatum is being affected in the recent years due to anthropogenic disturbances. Increasing market demand and unsustainable harvesting procedures are posing serious threat to Z. armatum. Thus, effective conservation and management initiatives are most important for conserving the natural population of Z. armatum in the study area.

  • Recently, as the demand for high-performance computers and mobile products increases, semiconductor packages are becoming high-integration and high-density. Therefore, in order to transmit a large amount of data at once, micro bumps such as flip-chip and Cu pillar that can reduce bump size and pitch and increase I/O density are used. However, when the size of the bumps is smaller than 70 ㎛, the brittleness increases and electrical properties decrease due to the rapid increase of the IMC volume fraction in the solder joint, which deteriorates the reliability of the solder joint. Therefore, in order to improve these issues, a layer that serves to prevent diffusion is inserted between the UBM (Under Bump Metallization) or pillar and the solder cap. In this review paper, various studies to improve bonding properties by suppressing excessive IMC growth of micro-bumps through additional layer insertion were compared and analyzed.

  • Lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) have attracted significant attention as potential energy storage solutions due to their high energy density, minimal self-discharge, extended cycle life, and absence of memory effects. However, conventional LIBs use graphite as the anode material and as a result struggle to meet the increasing demand for higher energy density because of the low theoretical capacity of graphite. In order to enhance Li storage capacity and address the current limitations of LIBs, this study designed and analyzed SnO2 nanoflakes/CNF, which is an advanced anode material with a unique hierarchical structure synthesized via a facile method involving incipient wetness followed by annealing. The in-situ formed SnO2 nanoflakes improve the electrolyte accessibility and shorten the ion and electron transport pathways, thereby enhancing the reaction kinetics. Additionally, the CNF matrix enhances the electrical conductivity, accelerates electron transport, and mitigates volume changes. The integrated SnO2 nanoflakes/CNF cell demonstrated outstanding cycling performance and excellent rate capability, achieving a notable reversible capacity of 636 mAh g-1 after 100 cycles at 0.1 C. This study provides valuable insights into the design of high-efficiency anode materials for the advancement of high-performance LIBs.

  • The seismic performance of a structure designed without consideration of seismic loading can be effectively enhanced through seismic rehabilitation. The appropriate level of rehabilitation should be determined based on the decision criteria that minimize the anticipated earthquake-related losses. To estimate the anticipated losses, seismic risk analysis should be performed considering the probabilistic characteristics of the hazard and the structural damage. This study presents the decision procedure in which the probabilistic seismic demand model is utilized for the effective estimation and minimization of the total seismic losses through seismic rehabilitation. The probability density function and the cumulative distribution function of the structural damage for a specified time period are established in a closed form, and are combined with the loss functions to derive the expected seismic loss. The procedure presented in this study could be effectively used for making decisions on the seismic rehabilitation of structural systems.
