GENERATORS OF COHOMOLOGY GROUPS OF CYCLOTOMIC UNITS

  • Let $d$ be a positive integer with $d\not{\equiv}2$ mod 4, and let $K=\mathbb{Q}({\zeta}_{pd})$ for S an odd prime $p$ such that $p{\equiv}1$ mod $d$. Let $K_{\infty}={\bigcup}_{n{\geq}0}K_n$ be the cyclotomic $\mathbb{Z}_p$-extension of $K=K_0$. In this paper, explicit generators for the Tate cohomology group $\hat{H}^{-1}$($G_{m,n}$ are given when $d=qr$ is a product of two distinct primes, where $G_{m,n}$ is the Galois group Gal($K_m/K_n$) and $C_m$ is the group of cyclotomic units of $K_m$. This generalizes earlier results when $d=q$ is a prime.

  • Phytochemical studies of the root of Aristolochia contorta afforded an unidentified N-glycoside rarely found in natural products. It's structure was elucidated as 8-desmethoxy-aristolactam $N-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$ by spectral data and chemical analysis. 6-Hydroxy-8-desmethoxy-aristolactam $N-{\beta}-D-glucopyranoside$, aristolactam I and aristolactam AII were also isolated from the same source. $^{13}C-NMR$ spectra were first assigned and the result confirmed N-C-O-glycosidic linkages in the glycosides.

  • Let D be a finite digraph with the vertex set V(D) and arc set A(D). A two-valued function $f:V(D){\rightarrow}\{-1,\;1\}$ defined on the vertices of a digraph D is called a signed 2-independence function if $f(N^-[v]){\leq}1$ for every $v$ in D. The weight of a signed 2-independence function is $f(V(D))=\sum\limits_{v{\in}V(D)}\;f(v)$. The maximum weight of a signed 2-independence function of D is the signed 2-independence number ${\alpha}_s{^2}(D)$ of D. Recently, Volkmann [3] began to investigate this parameter in digraphs and presented some upper bounds on ${\alpha}_{s}^{2}(D)$ for general digraph D. In this paper, we improve upper bounds on ${\alpha}_s{^2}(D)$ given by Volkmann [3].

  • We show that if $f \in L^{\infty}(D^n)$ satisfies Sf = rf for some r in the unit circle, where S is any convex combination of the iterations of Berezin operator, then f is n-harmonic. And we give some remarks and a conjecture on the space $M_2={f \in L^2(D^2, m \times m)\midBf = f$.

Interspecies Complementation of the LuxR Family Pathway-Specific Regulator Involved in Macrolide Biosynthesis

  • PikD is a widely known pathway-specific regulator for controlling pikromycin production in Streptomyces venezuelae ATCC 15439, which is a representative of the large ATP-binding regulator of the LuxR family (LAL) in Streptomyces sp. RapH and FkbN also belong to the LAL family of transcriptional regulators, which show greatest homology with the ATP-binding motif and helix-turn-helix DNA-binding motif of PikD. Overexpression of pikD and heterologous expression of rapH and fkbN led to enhanced production of pikromycin by approximately 1.8-, 1.6-, and 1.6-fold in S. venezuelae, respectively. Cross-complementation of rapH and fkbN in the pikD deletion mutant (ΔpikD) restored pikromycin and derived macrolactone production. Overall, these results show that heterologous expression of rapH and fkbN leads to the overproduction of pikromycin and its congeners from the pikromycin biosynthetic pathway in S. venezuelae, and they have the same functionality as the pathwayspecific transcriptional activator for the pikromycin biosynthetic pathway in the ΔpikD strain. These results also show extensive "cross-communication" between pathway-specific regulators of streptomycetes and suggest revision of the current paradigm for pathwayspecific versus global regulation of secondary metabolism in Streptomyces species.

충북(忠北) 지역(地域) 시설재배(施設栽培) 토양(土壤)의 화학적(化學的) 특성(特性) (Chemical Characteristics of Plastic Film House Soils in Chungbuk Area)

  • 시설재배 토양의 염류집적 현황과 토양중 염류이동을 구명하기 위하여 충북지역의 청주 및 충주에서 토양의 화학적 특성을 조사하였다. 시설재배지의 토성(土性)은 사양토(砂壤土) 30%, 양토(壤土) 27%, 미사질양토(微砂質壤土) 43% 이었고, 표토의 염류농도 분포비율은 $2dS\;m^{-1}$ 이하가 23%, $2{\sim}4dS\;m^{-1}$ 30%, $4{\sim}6dS\;m^{-1}$ 25%, $6dS\;m^{-1}$ 이상이 22%로서 장해발생기준(障害發生基準) $4dS\;m^{-1}$를 초과하는 포장이 약 50% 이었으며, 심토(20~30cm)에서는 $2dS\;m^{-1}$ 이하인 토양이 68%이었다. 시설재배 토양의 EC는 경작년수에 따라 증가하여 5년 이상인 토양에서 $4.47dS\;m^{-1}$ 이상이었고 시설 밖의 노지포장보다 2.8~5.6배 높았다. 여름철 비닐을 제거한 토양의 EC는 $0.71{\sim}2.92dS\;m^{-1}$로서 제거하지 않은 토양의 $3.54{\sim}7.36dS\;m^{-1}$보다 현저히 감소되었다. 시설 재배 토양의 $NO_3-N$, $SO_4-S$ 그리고 Cl 함량은 노지토양에 비하여 각각 2.5. 7.0, 3.4배 높았다.

Assessment of Posterior Globe Flattening: Two-Dimensional versus Three-Dimensional T2-Weighted Imaging

  • Purpose: To compare the frequency of posterior globe flattening between two-dimensional T2-weighted imaging (2D T2WI) and three-dimensional (3D T2WI). Materials and Methods: Sixty-nine patients (31 female; mean age, 44.4 years) who had undergone both 5-mm axial T2WI and sagittal 3D 1-mm isovoxel T2WI of the whole brain for evaluation of various diseases (headache [n = 30], large hemorrhage [n = 19], large tumor or leptomeningeal tumor spread [n = 15], large infarct [n = 3], and bacterial meningitis [n = 2]) were used in this study. Two radiologists independently reviewed both sets of images at separate sessions. Axial T2WI and multi-planar imaging of 3D T2WI were visually assessed for the presence of globe flattening. The optic nerve sheath diameter (ONSD) was measured at a location 4 mm posterior to each globe on oblique coronal imaging reformatted from 3D T2WI. Results: There were significantly more globes showing posterior flattening on 3D T2WI (105/138 [76.1%]) than on 2D T2WI (27/138 [19.6%], P = 0.001). Inter-observer agreement was excellent for both 2D T2WI and 3D T2WI (Cohen's kappa = 0.928 and 0.962, respectively). Intra-class correlation coefficient for the ONSD was almost perfect (Cohen's kappa = 0.839). The globes with posterior flattening had significantly larger ONSD than those without on both 2D and 3D T2WI (P < 0.001; $6.14mm{\pm}0.44$ vs. $5.74mm{\pm}0.44$ on 2D T2WI; $5.90mm{\pm}0.47$ vs. $5.56mm{\pm}0.34$ on 3D T2WI). Optic nerve protrusion was significantly more frequent on reformatted 1-mm 3D T2WI than on 5-mm 2D T2WI (8 out of 138 globes on 3D T2WI versus one on 2D T2WI; P = 0.018). Conclusion: Posterior globe flattening is more frequently observed on 3D T2WI than on 2D T2WI in patients suspected of having increased intracranial pressure. The globes with posterior flattening have significantly larger ONSD than those without.

비휘발성 기억소자를 위한 NO/$N_2O$ 질화산화막과 재산화 질화산화막의 특성에 관한 연구 (Characteristics of the NO/$N_2O$ Nitrided Oxide and Reoxidized Nitrided Oxide for NVSM)

  • 초박막 게이트 유전막 및 비휘발성 기억소자의 게이트 유전막으로 연구되고 있는 NO/$N_2$O 질화산화막 및 재산화질화산화막의 특성을 D-SIMS(dynamic secondary ion mass spectrometry), ToF-SIMS(time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry), XPS(x-ray Photoelectron spectroscopy)으로 조사하였다. 시료는 초기산화막 공정후에 NO 및 $N_2$O 열처리를 수행하였으며, 다시 재산화공정을 통하여 질화산화막내 질소의 재분포를 형성토록 하였다. D-SIMS 분석결과 질소의 중심은 초기산화막 계면에 존재하며 열처리 공정에서 NO에 비해서 $N_2$O의 경우 질소의 분포는 넓게 나타났다. 질화산화막내 존재하는 질소의 상태를 조사하기 위하여 ToF-SIMS 및 XPS 분석을 수행한 결과 SiON, $Si_2$NO의 결합이 주도적이며 D-SIMS에서 조사된 질소의 중심은 SiON 결합에 기인한 것으로 예상된다. 재산화막/실리콘 계면근처에 존재하는 질소는 $Si_2$NO 결합형태로 나타나며 이는 ToF-SIMS로 얻은 SiN 및 $Si_2$NO 결합종의 분포와 일치하였다.

전류 구동형 A/D converter 회로 설계 (Circuit design of current driving A/D converter)

  • [ $0.25{\mu}m$ ] N-well CMOS 공정기술을 이용하여 전류 구동형 A/D 변환기 회로를 설계하였다. 설계된 회로도에는 트랜스컨덕턴스(transconductance), 선형 폴더(folder) 회로 및 1 비트 A/D 변환기로 구성되어 있다. 트렌스컨덕턴스 회로를 이용하여 입력전압을 전류로 변환시킨 후 변환된 전류신호를 이용하여 선형성이 매우 양호한 폴더 회로를 얻을 수 있었다. 폴더 회로를 다단으로 종속접속시킴으로써 n비트 A/D 변환기로 확장할 수 있다. 본 연구에서 설계된 A/D 변환기는 대략 25MSPS으로 구동할 수 있는 6비트 A/D 변환기 회로이다.

ON PETERSON'S OPEN PROBLEM AND REPRESENTATIONS OF THE GENERAL LINEAR GROUPS

  • Fix ℤ/2 is the prime field of two elements and write 𝒜2 for the mod 2 Steenrod algebra. Denote by GLd := GL(d, ℤ/2) the general linear group of rank d over ℤ/2 and by ${\mathfrak{P}}_d$ the polynomial algebra ℤ/2[x1, x2, …, xd] as a connected unstable 𝒜2-module on d generators of degree one. We study the Peterson "hit problem" of finding the minimal set of 𝒜2-generators for ${\mathfrak{P}}_d$. Equivalently, we need to determine a basis for the ℤ/2-vector space $$Q{\mathfrak{P}}_d:={\mathbb{Z}}/2{\otimes}_{\mathcal{A}_2}\;{\mathfrak{P}}_d{\sim_=}{\mathfrak{P}}_d/{\mathcal{A}}^+_2{\mathfrak{P}}_d$$ in each degree n ≥ 1. Note that this space is a representation of GLd over ℤ/2. The problem for d = 5 is not yet completely solved, and unknown in general. In this work, we give an explicit solution to the hit problem of five variables in the generic degree n = r(2t - 1) + 2ts with r = d = 5, s = 8 and t an arbitrary non-negative integer. An application of this study to the cases t = 0 and t = 1 shows that the Singer algebraic transfer of rank 5 is an isomorphism in the bidegrees (5, 5 + (13.20 - 5)) and (5, 5 + (13.21 - 5)). Moreover, the result when t ≥ 2 was also discussed. Here, the Singer transfer of rank d is a ℤ/2-algebra homomorphism from GLd-coinvariants of certain subspaces of $Q{\mathfrak{P}}_d$ to the cohomology groups of the Steenrod algebra, $Ext^{d,d+*}_{\mathcal{A}_2}$ (ℤ/2, ℤ/2). It is one of the useful tools for studying these mysterious Ext groups.
