  • Tire belt durability is characterized by the initiation of a crack at the belt edge region, and the propagation of the crack until the ply is separated. Experimental methods have been used to analysis of the belt durability in the cord-reinforced rubber composite tires, but it takes much cost and time to make experiments. In this paper, a finite element method to analyze the fatigue life of a crack at the belt edge of tires is presented. The fatigue life is analyzed by using a three-dimensional Finite Element Modeling. This method includes a global-local finite element analysis to provide the detail necessary to model explicitly an internal crack and use of the J-integral for energy release rate evaluation.

  • This paper contains experimental studies on the flexural cracking behabior of PPC one-way slabs. Three post tensioned bonded PPC slabs with the same prestressing ratio and ultimate moment strength were tested. Based upon test results, this paper also presents the crack width prediction formula PPC slab. According to the crack theory developed mainly in Europe, crack width formula is given as the product of crack spacing and mean steel strain after decompression. Aaaaverage crack spacing formula is composed of many factors mainly such as concrete cover, concrete effective area in tension, sum of reinforcing bars perimeters and mixed reinforcements. In particular, it is very important to specify the bond characteristics of mixed reinforcements, since bond characteristics of PC bars are different from those of non-tensioned deformed bars. For this reason, a reduced bond coefficients for PS bars is employed in this study.

  • Fatigue damage is the phenomena which is accumulated gradually with loading cycle in material. It is represented by fatigue crack growth rate da/dN and fatigue life ratio $N/N_{f}$. Fracture mechanical parameters estimating large crack growth behavior can calculate quantitative amount of fatigue crack growth resistance in engineering material. But fatigue damage has influence on various load, material and environment. Therefore, In this study, we propose that artificial intelligent fatigue damage model can predicts fatigue crack growth rate da/dN and fatigue life ratio $N/N_{f}$ simultaneously using fracture mechanical and nondestructive parameters.

  • Effect of different crack sizes on fracture criterion of some engineering materials was investigated in this work. Using finite element (FE) method coupled with a newly developed algorithm, J-integral values for different crack sizes were obtained for single-edge notched bend (SENB) and compact type (CT) specimen. Specimens with initial a/W ratio from 0.25 to 0.75 varying in crack size in steps of 0.125 were investigated. Several different materials, like 20MnMoNi55, 42CrMo4 and 50CrMo4, usually used in engineering structure, were investigated. For one of mentioned materials, numerical results were compared with experimental and their compatibility is visible.

  • In this study, fatigue crack propagation problem of plate under multi-axial loading is mainly considered To analyze this special problem, recently developed technique called EFGM(Element-Free Galerkin Method), one of the Meshfree Methods, and general fatigue crack growth raw herein Paris law are used Using the Implemented scheme, paths of fatigue cracks by constant-amplitude load fluctuation and multiple-crack growth behavior are examined. The failure mechanism of steel plate due to crack propagation is studied. As a result, an algorithm that treats multiple fatigue crack problems is proposed. A numerical example shows that the prediction of growing paths can be achieved successfully and efficiently by proposed algorithm.

  • In recent years, the prediction of the deterioration rate of concrete structures has become major research interest. However, there are still many uncertain factors in the deterioration process and the relation between deterioration and durability of structures. This is mainly due to various uncertainties involved in the construction process and the environmental conditions which affect the rate of deterioration of concrete structures. In this study a limit state model in terms of random crack width due to applied dead and live loads is proposed for the assessment of crack damage of reinforced concrete structures. The AFOSM reliability method is used for the reliability evaluation of the crack durability of concrete bridges. The proposed model for crack durability of concrete bridges is applied to the Seoul interior circuit elevated expressway. The sensitivity analyses are performed for the proposed model.

  • An important class of short-fiber reinforced composites is the sheet molding compound, which is recently developed and currently used in many engineering applications. Fatigue failure of the composites is a subject of major concern in design and cyclic crack propagation is of particular significance in the fatigue life prediction of short fiber composites. However, research on the fatigue behavior of polymer injection weld, especially short glass fiber-filled polymer injection weld, has not been carried out. In this study the analyses of the fatigue crack growth behaviors at weld line and in the bulk are performed based on low cycle fatigue test.

  • Applications of bonded dissimilar materials such as IC package, ceramic/metal and resin/metal bonded joints, are very increasing in various industry fields. It is very important to analyze the thermal stress and stress singularity at interface edges in bonded joints of dissimilar materials. In orer to understand the package crack emanating from the edge of Die pad and Resin, fracture mechanics of bonded dissimilar materials and material properties are obtained. In this paper, the thermal stress and its singularity index for the IC package were analyzed using 2-dimensional elastic boundary element method. Crack propagation angle and path by thermal stress were numerically simulated with boundary element method.

  • Fundmental fatigue crack propagation tests with C-T type specimens were conducted at various load ratios (R) such as 0.1, 0.3 and 0.5 in T6 and Thermomechanically treated (TMT) conditions of 7039 Al alloy. Better mechanical properties from monotonic test as well as fatigue crack propagation were obtained by TMT process owing to uniform distribution of fine microstructures and non-existence of precipitation free zone (PFZ). Through the measurement of Kop and ${\Delta}K$ at various R the concept of effective stress intensity factor range ratio, U was reviewed to asses the load ratio effect on fatigue crack propagation. A relationship between U and variables such as ${\Delta}K$ and R was obtained empirically. This may enable us to predict ${\Delta}K_{eff}$ that is of critical importance for prediction of fatigue crack propagation rate.
