Information Resources for the Establishment of Tolerances on Pesticide Residues in Golf Courses (골프장의 농약잔류 허용기준 설정을 위한 자료)

  • The objective of this paper is to present relevant information and for proposing legal standards on pesticide residues around golf courses. Among 67 pesticide ingredients used for the courses in Korea, 30 items necessary for standard setting were selected and theoretical residue limits were computed. Pesticide residue limits applicable to golf courses in Korea were for 16 pesticides in run-off water on the health and ecotoxicological bases and in soil on the health basis, as selected by practical use pattern. It is recommended to accumulate scientific data by continuous research efforts in order to justify the pesticide residue limits in run-off water and soils of golf courses.

A Study on the Core Courses of the Departments of Library and Information Science (문헌정보학과의 코어 교과목 연구)

  • The purpose of this paper is to find out the present status of core courses offered at the Departments of Library and Information Science. For this purpose, the core courses in the curriculum, which were compulsory ones in the 19805, are analyzed. The result shows that there have not been many changes in the core courses offered and that traditional cores of selection, organization, services, administration and information science-related courses are still strongly extant.

Utilization of Agrochemicals in Golf Courses in Korea (국내 골프장의 농약 사용 추이)

  • A study was carried out in order to elucidate utilization of agochemicals in golf courses scien-tifically. The analysis of amounts of agrochemical used in golf courses from 1991 to 1996 which were reported to government are ;Despite of increase of golf courses, the amounts of agrochemicals decreased from 1992 as turning point. The decrease of utilization of insecticides and herbicides made it possible. In fungicides, thiopanate-methyl WP, polyoxine D. thiram WP and iprodione WP were used much in general and their utilization ratios were high. In recent year, as fungicides for Pythium blight and large patch, oxapro WP and pencycuron WP's amounts of utilization increased, but utilization ratios were under 70%. In insecticides, penitrothion OL's quantity consumed and utilization ratios were the best, but showed tendency of decrease as registration of agrochemicals for turfgrass expanded. In herbicides, bensulide OL, napropamide WP, MCPP SL were used much and their utilization ratios were high. In recent year, flazasulfuron WP's amounts of utilization and utilization ratio increased relatively. Key words: Agrochemicals Golf courses, Insecticides, Herbicides,Fungicides.

Cross-Cultural Management in China

  • Purpose - This paper discusses cross-cultural management (CCM) in China and how its business students get prepared by university cross-cultural management courses for an international market. Research design, data, and methodology - It was therefore decided to do an online content analysis looking at CCM courses offered by a number of Chinese universities first, and second to conduct a quantitative survey on CCM courses as well as topics among Chinese undergraduate business students at a large Eastern Chinese university. Results - From fundamental aspects, seven Chinese cultural standards emerge which highly influence the behaviour of the Chinese. There is a tendency to imply the integration of not only local but also cross cultural issues in academic management courses. Besides Hong Kong, there are currently 17 Chinese universities and schools accredited by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business (AACSB) that explicitly requires cross-cultural management competencies in undergraduate and graduate degree programmes. In addition, the study confirmed that two-third of the sample (Chinese undergraduate business students) had taken cross-cultural management courses. Conclusions - The results of this research have made it clear that Chinese universities and schools are aware of the importance of cross-cultural management competencies.

  • The curriculum system and documentation for advanced general education, MSC (Mathematics, Basic Science, Computer Science), and engineering-design courses have been developed to improve the education of advanced undergraduate students in engineering and technology at Chosun University. In this paper, to obtain improved quality of engineering courses, we systemized the education of engineering and technology, which could be designed as the education satisfying students and provide awards for high-quality performance, through efficient management of education courses and establishment of basic and professional courses. In addition, by applying evaluation to the engineering courses and using the model of continuous quality improvement, we could achieve a high-quality education system for the engineering and technology courses.

  • This paper proposes practical teaching methods for efficient progress of project-based learning in engineering design education. Engineering design courses consist of three categories; introductory, individual and capstone design courses. This study concentrates on the case of individual design courses. Individual design courses act as bridges between introductory and capstone design courses and deal with applicable projects based on theoretical frameworks. In this study, practical teaching methods are applied to Artificial Intelligence curriculum as an individual design course for Juniors in Computer Engineering Major. The results on application of practical teaching methods show relatively positive in all aspects.

Satisfaction of Learners of a College about Courses Based NCS (National Competency Standards) (전문대학의 NCS 기반 교과목에 대한 학습자 만족)

  • Satisfaction of learners is not high about courses based NCS(National Competency Standards) of specialized colleges as a result of this study. The satisfaction of learners through the result of the study about the courses based NCS appears above the average as 3.44 compared 5.0 scale of Likert and the difference of satisfaction of learners between courses based NCS and general courses exists in the specialized colleges. The satisfaction of learners of the three majors compared the total 23 majors are high and they occupies 13.0%. This means that the courses based NCS should need the method in order to increase the satisfaction of learners. But in case of D college, learners of courses based NCS at the fourteen majors of the total 23 majors have their more positive attitude for their learning compared with the attitude of general courses.

  • This study seeks to propose and develop library science courses required in the digital age by investigating overseas LIS courses and surveying field librarians. Such courses must help the future librarian develop familiarity and skill with emerging technologies. As a result, required courses in the digital era were found to be: 'Design and Management of Databases', 'Library Planning, Marketing, and Assessment', 'Understanding Information Technology for Managing Digital Collections', and 'Information and Communication in a Digital Age' in that order, and should therefore be offered as core courses. In addition, 'Service for Information Disadvantaged Users' and 'Organization and Utilization of Web resources' were derived. The study also recommends different required courses based on different librarian types and duties.

  • The purpose of this study was to suggest the education and training program for disaster management by comparison between DACUM technique applied curriculum and curriculum by expert committee, and curriculum development. First, DACUM technique applied curriculum development. Job Classification of Disaster management was consisted of four jobs - mitigation, preparedness, response and recovery - by three times discussions of expert panels. Job analysis and curriculum development were performed by the DACUM panels who consisted of three subject-matter experts and one educational expert on each field. Curriculum developed mitigation was nine courses, preparedness was twelve courses, response was seven courses, and recovery was four courses. Second, Expert committee developed curriculum. Expert committee consisted of five experts and three educational expert. Expert committee was held four times. Curriculum developed thirty five courses. Then disaster management curriculum determined by discussion of experts. disaster management curriculum considered (1)mitigation and preparedness was thirty one courses, (2)response and recovery was fourteen courses, (3)man-made was six courses, (4)manager level was four courses.

Changes in the Image of Nursing in First Year Nursing Students after History & Philosophy of Nursing Courses (간호역사와 철학 교과목 수업 후 간호대 신입생의 간호이미지 변화)

  • Purpose: This study was done to investigate changes in image of nursing in first year students of nursing after courses on history & philosophy of nursing. Methods: Participants were 100 first year students at a nursing college located in K city. The students were asked to submit a written answer to an open-ended question. Data were collected in March, 2011, before the students started nursing courses, and again in June, 2011, after they had finished one semester of nursing courses. Data were analyzed using Van Kaam's phenomenological method. Results: Before the nursing courses, students regarded nursing as caring for patients comfortably with warmth and kindness, helping patients with self-sacrificing spirit and service, and being tough and overwhelming to do. After finishing one semester of nursing courses, they regarded nursing as a profession that requires motherly care, love and devotion, and as meaningful and beautiful to do. Conclusions: After finishing one semester of nursing courses, the images of nursing held by the students changed from a traditional perspective emphasizing the emotional and negative aspects to one focusing more on the professional and positive aspects. It is essential to establish healthy and positive images of nursing among students through the nursing curriculum.
