  • The cosmetic industry is dynamic, ever changing. New product are constantly evolved, old and obsolete products are replaced as the industry adopts to an ever changing market. Cosmetics are products 1the society. They often reflect the changing needs, values, and the lifestyles of the people and serve as an indicator of the political climate and economic state of a nation. Thus, it is likely the recent change in 11head of the U.S. government will strongly impact the cosmetic industry. The United States is the world`s largest market for cosmetics and toiletries, Many U.S. cosmetic and toiletry manufacturers, such as P & G, Colgate, Avon, Revlon and Estee Lauder, market their Products worldwide. Consequently, what happens in the U.S. often, sooner or later, affect markets and industries in other parts of the world. Frequently, changes that occur first in the U.S. with subsequently take place in other nations within a few years. The success and failure of the new economic policies of the Clinton Administration and the expected tightening of government regulations on environmental protection, and consumer protection will undoubtedly affect the industry. Possible changes in foreign policy will not only affect U.S. companies but also cosmetic manufacturers in other nations. This lecture will focus on possible changes in the cosmetic industry in America and how they will impact on Korea and foreign companies doing business in United States. It will also review important changes in federal and state regulations. New marketing trends, new raw materials and successful new products will be discussed.

COSMOS-standard AISBL과 우리나라 유기농 화장품 기준에 관한 분석 (Comparative Analysis with The COSMOS-standard AISBL and The Regulation of Korean Organic Cosmetic Standard)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the tendency of certified organic cosmetics market and the certification standards and regulations they are under, compare one of the most commonly used COSMOS-standard AISBL with the Korea Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) organic cosmetic standard regulation. And then examining their differences and any potential issues is to present suggestions to be made as data for certification standard for natural & organic cosmetics in Korea regulation. This contents of study will be used as good research and development to promote the sustainable growth of the natural & organic cosmetic ingredients which have been grown by organic farmers certified. Also certified organic ingredients may help to growth the organic industry. I believe these are actual comparative for application to develop of natural and organic cosmetics in Korea as well the strengthening of the competitiveness of organic cosmetics certified in the world.

친환경 소재를 이용한 화장품 쿠션 팩트 용기의 힌지 설계와 사출 성형 시뮬레이션 (Hinge Design and Injection Molding Simulation of Cosmetic Cushion Fact Container Using Eco-Friendly Materials)

  • As the consumer market in the cosmetic, vehicle manufacturing and aerospace industries grows, the demand for manufacturing industries using on injection mold technology. Also, such manufacturing technology of metal machining is expensive, and the shape is limited. Cosmetic cushion fact products are divided into outer relevant to the exterior of the product and inner containers containing the actual contents. In the case of the inner container, it needs to be combined with the upper and lower cases. As environmental regulations are strengthened internationally, the use of a large number of component parts can result in significant losses in recycling and economics. Therefore, this study aims to perform injection molding analysis through injection molding simulation to develop a cushion fact container that can be recycled through the unification of products and materials using polypropylene to cope with environmental regulations. In the case of injection molding conditions, Injection Time(sec): 4.5, Cooling Time(sec): 13, Resin Temperature($^{\circ}C$): 240, and Pressure(MPa): 30 were determined. The results of injection molding simulation according to the two design methods were compared with the sync mark which shows the problem of filling and injection molding.

국내 화장품 원료성분에 대한 유해성 조사 (Hazard Investigation of Cosmetic Ingredients in Korea)

  • Objective: The purpose of this study was to investigate the hazards of cosmetic ingredients in Korea. Methods: An Excel database of cosmetic ingredients was developed on a website(Korea Cosmetic Ingredient Dictionary) and used for a hazard assessment based on Tox-free, a database containing toxic information such as on carcinogens, mutagens or reproductive toxicants(CMRs) and endocrine disrupting chemicals(EDCs), as well as other regulated chemicals in Korea. Results: A total of 16,605 chemicals were registered with the cosmetic ingredient dictionary and 308 of them were identified as either CMRs or EDCs. CMRs included formaldehyde and nickel gluconate, and EDCs included parabens, benzophenon, styrene, and toluene. Reproductive toxicants such as xylene, zinc chloride, toluene, and formaldehyde were regulated by the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Act on the Registration and Evaluation, etc. of Chemical Substances(the Chemical Control Act). Conclusions: Regulations on cosmetics components should be strengthened, and the right to know about cosmetics containing hazardous chemicals should be guaranteed.

Assessment of Skin Irritation Caused by S-(-)-10,11-Dihydroxyfarnesoic Acid Methyl Ester, a Metabolite of Beauveria bassiana CS1029

  • To determine whether S-(-)-10,11-dihydroxyfarnesic acid methyl ester (DHFAME) produced by Beauveria bassiana CS1029 potentially causes acute skin irritation as a cosmetic ingredient, a skin toxicity test was conducted as recommended for compliance with Korea Food and Drug Administration regulations. New Zealand White rabbits were treated with 100 mg/dose of DHFAME according to standard guidelines. No significant skin lesions or inflammation was observed in the DHFAME-treated group. Furthermore, DHFAME did not appear to cause skin irritation, as assessed by clinical observation of the rabbits. Thus, when taken together, the present results suggest that DHFAME is a promising potential cosmetic ingredient that does not irritate the skin.

  • 최근 의료용 대마의 합법화 추세와 규제가 완화되고 있는 상황 속에서 대마의 다양한 효능이 과학적으로 입증되고 있기 때문에 여러 분야에서 대마추출물이 차세대 유망 성분으로 떠오르고 있다. 대마에서 추출한 성분인 cannabinoid (CB), cannabidiol (CBD), phytocannabinoid (pCB), hemp seed hexane extracts (HSHE)은 피부 염증을 감소시키며 피부 보습, 강력한 항산화 효과가 있고 여러 피부질환 개선에 효능을 가지고 있다. 본 논문에서는 대마추출물들의 피부에서의 효능을 종합하여 소재로서의 잠재적 역할에 대해 살펴보고자 한다.

  • 본 연구는 중국의 화장품 인증제도가 한국의 수출업체들에게 중국시장 진출에 있어 비관세장벽으로서 어떻게 작동하는지 분석하는데 목적이 있다. 중국은 한국 화장품 수출의 최대 시장으로서 중국의 자국 산업 보호 정책은 대중(對中)화장품 수출업체에게 진입장벽이 되고 있다. 이에 본 연구는 중국 수입화장품 인증제도의 규정에 대한 분석을 통해 ①정보유출 ②중복검사 ③시간지연의 문제점이 있음을 밝혀내었다. 아울러 대중(對中)화장품 수출업체를 대상으로 설문조사 및 인터뷰를 시행함으로 도출된 문제점을 실증하였다. 결론적으로 중국의 화장품 인증제도는 중국 화장품 산업을 보호할 뿐만 아니라, 산업의 육성을 위해 수입화장품의 시장진입을 방해하는 비관세장벽으로 활용되고 있다.

반려동물 용품 및 화장품 산업 현황 (The Current Status of the Companion Animal products and Pet Cosmetics industry)

  • 코로나 시대에 반려동물은 우리에게 많은 위안을 주고, 가족처럼 반려동물을 여기는 펫팸족이 등장하였다. 그리고 젊은 소비자는 자신에게 소비할 금액을 줄여서 반려동물에게 소비하는 패턴을 보이는 펫푸어도 볼 수 있다. 하지만 이러한 시대적인 변화에도 불구하고 펫푸드를 포함한 반려동물 용품 및 화장품은 여전히 수입 의존도가 높고, 국내의 반려동물 화장품 및 용품에 대한 기준이 설정되어 있지 않아 화장품 안전기준 등에 관한 규정에만 의존하고 있는 실정이다. 또한 국내 반려동물 용품 및 화장품에 관한 용어도 아직 정립되지 않은 상태이다. 현재 국내 법률은 반려동물과 관련한 동물보호법 만이 존재하지만 일본에서는 반려동물 사료안전법이 2009년 6월부터 시행되었고, 미국은 연방식품, 의약품, 화장품 관리법에서 반려동물 화장품 및 용품을 담당하고, 동물보호법이 강력한 독일은 식품 및 사료에 대한 다양한 국가 차원의 법규가 있다. 그리고 식품 안전국 웹 사이트에서도 국가 규정을 정밀하게 확인 가능하다. 따라서 본 연구는 국외의 빠르게 성장하고 안정적인 반려동물 산업처럼 국내에서도 반려 동물 산업을 관리하고 개발을 뒷받침 해주는 국가 정책과 환경 등이 반려동물 용품 및 화장품 그 외 다양한 반려동물 관련 산업을 해외시장으로 수출하는데 기초자료로 반드시 필요할 것으로 사료된다.

해녀콩(Canavalia lineata THUNB. DC.) 추출물의 멜라닌 생성 억제 효과 (Anti-melanogenesis Effect of Canavalia lineata Extract)

  • 피부에서 melanin은 자외선 차단의 주요한 역할을 한다. Tyrosinase는 멜라닌 생합성과정에서 초기 단계에 관여하는 중요한 효소로서 이것의 조절을 통한 피부 멜라닌화 억제에 관해 많은 연구가 되어져왔다. 본 연구에서는 해녀콩 추출물에서 mushroom tyrosinase 활성억제, B16F10 melanoma 세포를 이용한 dopa oxidase 활성억제 및 멜라닌 합성 억제 효과를 확인하였다. Tyrosinase mRNA 발현에서의 억제 효과를 확인하기 위하여 RT-PCR을 이용하였으며, $CHCI_3$ 층에서 분리해낸 A 분획에서 tyrosinase mRNA 발현을 억제시킴을 확인하였다.

Franz Diffusion Cell을 이용한 문신용 염료 내 유해물질의 피부 투과특성 연구 (Permeation Characteristics of Hazardous Substances in Tattoo Dye using Franz Diffusion Cells)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study is to determine the exposure risk to tattoo components by analyzing skin absorption using the in vitro method. Tattoos are commonly used for cosmetic purposes, and the skin of not only the operator but of the people who are undergoing the cosmetic procedure is continuously exposed to hazardous chemicals. Methods: Skin permeation risk determination was conducted by the in vitro Franz diffusion cell method according to the ingredient types of tattoo dyes, such as volatile organic compounds (VOCs), non-volatile organic compounds and heavy metals, using hairless mouse full skin and human cadaver epidermis. Results: The major components with good skin penetration for each type of tattoo dye ingredient were clarified. Among the tatto dye ingredients, 1,2-Dichlorobenzene, Zn, Al, Pb and Ti showed good skin penetration. Most of the skin transmission rates were higher in hairless mouse full skin than in human cadaver epidermis. Conclusion: A possible exposure risk to hazardous substances in tattoo dyes was confirmed from this study. These results are expected to provide a positive contribution to the establishment of management regulations for tattoo dyes.
