Purpose: Direct intraoral scanning and superimposing methods have recently been applied to measure the dimensions of periodontal tissues. The aim of this study was to analyze various correlations between labial gingival thickness and underlying alveolar bone thickness, as well as clinical parameters among 3 tooth types (central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines) using a digital method. Methods: In 20 periodontally healthy subjects, cone-beam computed tomography images and intraoral scanned files were obtained. Measurements of labial alveolar bone and gingival thickness at the central incisors, lateral incisors, and canines were performed at points 0-5 mm from the alveolar crest on the superimposed images. Clinical parameters including the crown width/crown length ratio, keratinized gingival width, gingival scallop, and transparency of the periodontal probe through the gingival sulcus were examined. Results: Gingival thickness at the alveolar crest level was positively correlated with the thickness of the alveolar bone plate (P<0.05). The central incisors revealed a strong correlation between labial alveolar bone thickness at 1 and 2 mm, respectively, inferior to the alveolar crest and the thickness of the gingiva at the alveolar crest line (G0), whereas G0 and labial bone thickness at every level were positively correlated in the lateral incisors and canines. No significant correlations were found between clinical parameters and hard or soft tissue thickness. Conclusions: Gingival thickness at the alveolar crest level revealed a positive correlation with labial alveolar bone thickness, although this correlation at identical depth levels was not significant. Gingival thickness, at or under the alveolar crest level, was not associated with the clinical parameters of the gingival features, such as the crown form, gingival scallop, or keratinized gingival width.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationship between vertical jump and lower extremity muscle strength of elementary school baseball players. This study subjects were conducted with a total of 40 subjects. Vertical jump was measured using a vertical jump gauge, and a hand held dynamometer was used to measure lower extremity muscle strength. For the measurement of lower extremity muscle strength, flexion·extension·adduction·abduction·internal rotaiton·external rotation of both hip joint, flexion·extension of both knee joint, dorsi flexion·plantar flexion of both ankle joint were measured. pearson's correlation analysis was used to analyze the correlation between vertical jump and lower extremity muscle strength. From these results, it was found that the stronger the leg muscles except for the plantar flexion, the higher the vertical jump was, indicating a positive correlation. In future studies, follow-up studies on the relationship between batting ability and vertical jump & lower extremity muscle strength are needed.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to develop a Korean nursing work environment scale for critical care nurses (KNWES-CCN) and verify its validity and reliability. Methods: A total of 46 preliminary items were selected using content validity analysis of experts on 64 candidate items derived through literature reviews and in-depth interviews with critical care nurses. 535 critical care nurses from 21 hospitals responded to the preliminary questionnaire from February to March 2021. The collected data were analysed using construct, convergent and discriminant validities, and internal consistency and test-retest reliability. Results: The 23 items in 4 factors accounted for 55.6% of the total variance were identified through item analysis and exploratory factor analysis (EFA). EFA was performed with maximum likelihood method including direct oblimin method. In the confirmatory factor analysis, KNWES-CCN consisted of 21 items in 4 factors by deleting the items that were not meet the condition that the factor loading over .50 or the squared multiple correlation over .30. This model was considered to be suitable because it satisfied the fit index and acceptable criteria of the model [𝒳2=440.47 (p<.001), CMIN/DF=2.41, GFI=.86, SRMR=.06, RMSEA=.07, TLI=.90, CFI=.91]. The item total correlation values ranged form .32 to .73 and its internal consistency was Cronbach's α=.92. The reliability of the test-retest correlation coefficient was .72 and the intra-class correlation coefficient was .83. Conclusion: The KNWES-CCN showed good validity and reliability. Therefore, it is expected that the use of this scale would measure and improve nursing work environment for critical care nurses in Korea.
Background Currently, the BREAST-Q can effectively measure patient's satisfaction on the quality of life from the patient's perspective in relation to different type of breast reconstruction. However, evaluation of patient satisfaction and cosmetic outcomes in breast reconstruction may have potential to led bias. Methods To maximize the benefits of using BREAST-Q to evaluate clinical outcome, we performed comparative study focused on the correlation between postoperative BREAST-Q and cosmetic outcomes assessed by medical professionals. For the current analysis, we used three postoperative BREAST-Q scales (satisfaction with breast, psychosocial well-being, and sexual well-being). The Ten-Point Scale by Visser et al was applied to provide reproducible grading of the postoperative cosmetic outcomes of the breast. The system includes six subscales that measured overall aesthetic outcome, volume, shape, symmetry, scarring, and nipple-areolar complex. The photographic assessments were made by five medical professionals who were shown photographs on a computer screen in a random order. Obtained data were stored in Excel and evaluated by Spearman's correlations using SPSS Statistics. Results We enrolled 92 women in this study, 10 did not respond to all scales of postoperative BREAST-Q, the remaining 82 women had undergone breast reconstruction. The correlation between BREAST-Q score and aesthetic score measured by Ten-Point Scale for the three BREAST-Q scales all show positive values in Spearman's correlation coefficient. Conclusion A significant correlation without any bias observed was found between the patient's satisfaction measured by BREAST-Q after breast reconstruction and the medical expert's aesthetic evaluation.

Purpose : The purpose of this study is to compare the balance ability between subjects with chronic ankle instability and normal people and the center of pressure displacement during the sit to stand and stand to sit. Methods : The subjects of this study were 63 who met the inclusion criteria and were classified into normal group (n=33) and chronic ankle instability group (n=30). The displacement of the center of pressure during sit to stand and stand to sit was measured. And the limit of stability and Y-balance tests were performed to measure the balance ability. Independent t-test was conducted to compare center of pressure displacement and balance ability between groups, and pearson correlation was conducted to analyze the correlation between the center of pressure displacement and balance ability. Results : In the case of the center of pressure displacement, there was a significant difference between the two groups during sit to stand and stand to sit. In the case of balance, both limit of stability and Y-balance test showed significant differences between the two groups. At the time of sit to stand, the center of pressure displacement showed a significant correlation with balance abilities, and at the time of stand to sit, the center of pressure displacement showed a significant correlation with Y-balance test. Conclusion : Chronic ankle instability shows that there is a lot of sway in the body due to compensation to replace the decrease in ankle joint range of motion when performing sit to stand and stand to sit due to sensory input damage such as decrease in ankle range of motion and decrease in ankle proprioception. Chronic ankle instability is expected to have a negative effect on our daily lives in life. The results of this study will serve as the basis for the dynamic approach to objective evaluation, treatment, and prevention of chronic ankle instability.

Purpose : This study aims to understand the effects of job-seeking stress on depression and self-esteem in college students majoring in health science. Methods : In this study, in order to measure college students' employment stress, depression, self-esteem, and social support, a measurement tool was used by modifying and supplementing the questionnaire to suit the purpose and method of this study. The subjects, 210 students (46 men and 164 women) enrolled in colleges located in Busan, had their scores on the Beck depression inventory (BDI), job-seeking stress scale, and self-esteem scale measured. Results : There was a positive correlation between all sub-variables of employment stress, and a negative correlation between employment stress and self-esteem. Additionally, a positive correlation was found between employment stress and depression, and a negative correlation was found between self-esteem and depression. The result taken from the job-stress scale showed that women experienced an overall higher level of stress than men while seeking jobs. Furthermore, in terms of the BDI, men exhibited a higher level of depression than women when subjected to job-seeking stress. Finally, the results from the self-esteem scale reveal that men exhibited less self-esteem than women. Conclusion : A comprehensive review of the study's findings suggested that women had greater job-seeking stress than men. Additionally, it found that, for men, job-seeking stress had a greater impact on depression levels and self-esteem. These results suggest that a higher level of job-seeking stress may lead to higher levels of depression and lower levels of self-esteem. It will be useful to conduct follow-up research by operating self-esteem and depression programs.
Patients with chronic renal failure, many of which treated with hemodialysis, present a high prevalence of impaired muscle strength which suggest that muscle mass parameters may be used as markers for changes in muscle in these patients. Measurement of handgrip strength (HGS) is a common, simple, and quick measure of muscle function an indicator of overall muscle strength which has been associated with physical activity and several anthropometric traits. Intercellular adhesion molecule-1 (ICAM-1) and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) are biochemical markers associated with inflammatory processes which are a common consequence of dialysis. Additionally, hemodialysis patients frequently present signs of malnutrition and depression. This cross-sectional study aimed to evaluate if muscle and biochemical markers could be used to predict the risk of depression in hemodialysis patients. Several anthropometric parameters, nutrient intake, depression state and the serum levels of ICAM-1 and IGF-1 were determined and Pearson's correlation coefficient and/or Spearman's correlation coefficient were used to test the correlation between them. Our results do not show a correlation between HGF, IGF-1 and ICAM-1 with the depression status of the patients, but mid-arm muscle circumference (MAMC) was statistically and positively correlated with depression. Additionally, ICAM-1 levels were negatively correlated with HGS, MAMC, and IGF-1. Overall, the results of the present study suggest that HGS may be used as an indicator of cardiovascular diseases and MAMC may be a good predictor of the level of depression in hemodialysis patients, although further studies are required.

APS (Aerodynamic Particle Sizer) and OPC (Optical Particle Counter) have been widely used to real-time measurement of indoor and outdoor aerosols. The APS measures the size distribution based on an aerodynamic diameter, while the OPC uses optical diameter to measure the size distribution of aerosols. Since obtaining a size distribution based on aerodynamic diameter is important to understand aerosol characteristics, lots of researcher had been developed experimental equations which can convert optical diameter into aerodynamic diameter. However, previous studies have conducted repeated experiments on particles having a single diameter. In this study, an experimental method of converting optical diameter into aerodynamic diameter through a single experiment was presented. The collection efficiencies of an axial cyclone were measured using APS and OPC at the same time, and the correlation equation between aerodynamic diameter and optical diameter was driven through a theoretical model. Using the proposed method, the size distribution of NaCl particles measured by OPC showed a high correlation with the size distribution obtained by APS (0.93 of R-squared value). In the tests conducted on ISO A1, A2, and A4 test particles, the converted OPC size distribution tended to be similar to the APS size distribution, and for each of test particles (ISO A1, A2, and A4), the R-squared values for the APS particle size distribution were 0.75, 0.86, and 0.89, respectively.

Purpose: This study aimed to quantify alveolar bone morphology, demonstrate the relationship between tooth angulation and alveolar bone thickness, and introduce a new classification for anterior mandibular teeth related to immediate implant placement (IIP). Methods: Cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) images of 211 anterior mandibular teeth were analyzed in sagittal slices to measure the thickness of the facial alveolar bone crest (FAB1) and apex (FAB2), and the lingual alveolar bone crest (LAB1) and apex (LAB2). Tooth angulation was classified as 1°-10°, 11°-20°, and >20° according to the tooth's long axis and alveolar bone wall. Spearman correlation coefficients were used to evaluate correlations between the variables. Results: FAB1 and LAB1 were predominantly thin (<1 mm) (84.4% and 73.4%, respectively), with the lateral incisors being thinnest. At the apical level, FAB2 and LAB2 were thick in 99.5% and 99.1% of cases, respectively. Significant differences were documented in FAB2 (P=0.004), LAB1 (P=0.001), and LAB2 (P=0.001) of all mandibular teeth. At all apical levels of the inspected teeth, a significant negative correlation existed between TA and FAB2. Meanwhile, TA showed a significant positive correlation with LAB2 of the lateral incisors and canines. These patterns were then divided into class I (thick facial and lingual alveolar bone), class II (facially inclined teeth) with subtype A (1°-10°) and subtype B (11°-20°), and class III (lingually inclined teeth) with subtype A (1°-10°) and subtype B (11°-20°). Conclusions: Mandibular anterior teeth have predominantly thin facial and lingual crests, making the lingual bone apical thickness crucial for IIP. Although anchorage can be obtained from lingual bone, tooth angulation and tooth types had an impact on IIP planning. Hence, the new classification based on TA and alveolar bone wall may enable rational clinical planning for IIP treatment.
Background: This study was to investigate effects of flat-back posture during inhalation compared to normal posture, focusing on the expansion of the chest and the activation of neck muscles. Design: Case-control study. Methods: Thirty subjects participated in this study. Plumb line distances and Sagittal index were measured using a ruler and a laser level in the standing position to evaluate and classify thoracic kyphosis of the subjects. Chest expansion was measured using a ruler, and surface electromyography was used to measure muscle activity around the neck and shoulders during inhalation. Correlation analysis and independent t-tests were conducted to compare chest expansion and muscle activity around the neck between subjects with flat-back posture and those with normal posture during inhalation. Results: The correlation analysis showed a statistically significant positive correlation between Sagittal index and chest expansion at the level of the xiphoid process (r=.558, p<.05), and a statistically significant negative correlation between Sagittal index and activity of the upper trapezius at the onset of inhalation (r=-.368, p<.05). Independent t-test results indicated significant differences between the flat-back posture group and the normal posture group in the circumference of the xiphoid process at rest (p<.05) and in the activity of the upper trapezius at the onset of inhalation (p<.05). Conclusion: Flat-back posture influences a decrease in chest expansion and at the same time increases the muscle activity of the upper trapezius muscle at the beginning of inspiration.
