Scientists planning research that involves the use of animals are required by international and/or national law to examine the possibilities for the implementation of Replacement, Reduction and/or Refinement (the Three Rs principles of Russell and Burch) in experiments for research, testing, and education. There are two Korean laws legislating humane use of animals and ethical review prior to animal experiments. This report reviews current practice of the literature search by the researchers and protocol review by the Institutional Animal Care and Use Committees on the Replacement, Reduction and Refinement alternatives in Korea. The promotion and protection of the laboratory animals are one of the core competencies of investigators exploring the ethical conduct of research and good science.

As the software development cycles is getting shorter, the software reusability is emphasized accordingly. Specifically, the design reusability is being recognized as one of the most important factor to increase the software quality and productivity and make the maintenance cost down. Two essential abilities are needed to improve the design reusability. One is the identification of the reusable objects, and the other is the organization of the relationships among the objects. However, the existing methods using such as a grammatical analysis, a scenario matching and a unit of design problems(design pattern) have not been proposed proper principles to identify the reusable objects on the basis of the abstraction which is the core of the object-oriented concept. In this paper, we will offer the Two-Pass abstraction principle based in the abstraction concept.

The paper discusses how the new EU Strategy towards Central Asia issued in May 2019 might be analyzed through the lens of the intensely debated transformations from the liberal to a post-liberal international order. The author claims that the EU's normative power is transforming from the post-Cold War predominantly liberal/ value-based approach, with democracy and human rights at its core, to a set of more technical tools and principles of good governance and effective management of public administration. The paper problematizes a nexus between the dynamics of the EU's nascent post-liberalism and the geopolitical challenges of the EU's growing engagement with illiberal regimes, focuses on direct encounters between the post-liberal EU and the illiberal elites in Central Asia, and seeks to find out the impact of these connections upon the EU's international subjectivity. In this context geopolitical dimensions of EU foreign and security policies, along with the specificity of the EU's geopolitical actorship in Central Asia, are discussed.

Music performance techniques have been primarily trained by apprenticeship. The technique transfer, which relies on the imitation of experience and actual performance without scientific evidence, required the pianists more time and effort than necessary. However, if the players in the field discover the principles of universally applicable piano playing techniques in collaboration with scientists, they will avoid errors and prepare a new paradigm in the development of piano playing techniques. This is why music performance science is needed. Little has been studied about it in Korea, but it has been activated abroad since the mid-1990s. The core science of music performance science is expected to be computer science fitting data analysis. In this paper, we introduce music performance science for the pianist and present how computer can help it.

This paper provides practical suggestions for how palliative care clinicians can address the expressions of spiritual struggle voiced by patients and their loved ones. In addition to practical tips for listening and responding, ethical guidance and opportunities for self-reflection related to spiritual care are briefly discussed. Principles to guide practice when the clinician is listening and responding to a patient expressing spiritual struggle include being non-directive, honoring (vs. judging) the patient's spiritual or religious experience, keeping the conversation patient-centered, focusing on the core theme of what the patient is expressing presently, using the patient's terminology and framing, and responding "heart to heart" or "head to head" to align with the patient. Ultimately, the goal of a healing response from a spiritual care generalist is to allow the patient to "hear" or "see" themselves, to gain self-awareness. To converse with patients about spirituality in an ethical manner, the clinician must first assess the patient's spiritual needs and preferences and then honor these.

In nuclear power plant (NPP) accidents, the containment is subject to high temperatures and high internal pressures, which may further trigger serious chain accidents such as core meltdown and hydrogen explosion, resulting in a significantly higher accident level. Therefore, studying the mechanical performance of a containment under high temperature and high internal pressure is relevant to the safety of NPPs. Based on similarity principles, the 1:3.2 scale model of a prestressed concrete containment vessel (PCCV) of a NPP was designed. The loading method, which considers the thermal-pressure coupling conditions, was used. The mechanical response of the PCCV was investigated with a simultaneous increase in internal pressure and temperature, and the failure mechanism of the PCCV under thermal-pressure coupling conditions was revealed.

Purpose: Since core competence-based training is in demand, this study aimed to develop a suitable talent model and major competencies for the Department of Physical Therapy at U University and use it to propose appropriate educational subjects. Methods: This case study was conducted at U university in Gyeongju-si, Gyeongsangbuk-do. To study curricula based on major competence, related documents were analyzed, expert opinions were obtained, and a consumer survey was conducted. Results: U University assigns major competencies for each department, develops subjects accordingly, maps them, and constructs a competency matrix. The four major competencies of physical therapy were defined as musculoskeletal system, nervous system, cardiorespiratory system and sports injury, and physical management abilities. In order to realize these major competencies, U University added subjects to its curriculum. Conclusion: The results of internal and external environmental analysis should be more actively considered to enable changes in subjects at the departmental level. In addition, the setting of major competencies should be subjected to more detailed, specific reviews to maintain the basic principles of major curricula.

This review comprehensively explores the evolution, theoretical underpinnings, variations, and applications of diffusion models. Originating as a generative framework, diffusion models have rapidly ascended to the forefront of machine learning research, owing to their exceptional capability, stability, and versatility. We dissect the core principles driving diffusion processes, elucidating their mathematical foundations and the mechanisms by which they iteratively refine noise into structured data. We highlight pivotal advancements and the integration of auxiliary techniques that have significantly enhanced their efficiency and stability. Variants such as bridges that broaden the applicability of diffusion models to wider domains are introduced. We put special emphasis on the ability of diffusion models as a crucial foundation model, with modalities ranging from image, 3D assets, and video. The role of diffusion models as a general foundation model leads to its versatility in many of the downstream tasks such as solving inverse problems and image editing. Through this review, we aim to provide a thorough and accessible compendium for both newcomers and seasoned researchers in the field.

Computer game is a result of integration of various academic areas, and the production of computer game requires knowledge and experience from various areas. This study demonstrates a game production process using Scratch. The intent was to experience the game development process and the production principle through actually building the core functions of a game using Scratch. As such, the computer game production principle was understood and it was made possible to learn more easily and more enjoyably the functions of multimedia and programming necessary for the production process. As the result, the learning of game production principles using Scratch was found to enhance the interest of the learner, and help with the understanding of game structure and learning software/programming language.

The development of urbanization in the twentieth century according to the rampant growth of industrialization not only brought about the improvement of life-quality but also induced us to reconsider the contemporary issues such as crisis of echo system which made us aware of the values and significance of the system and sustainable environments. As sustainability has been recognized as the holistic concept, it has been highlighted as one of the core concepts in the studies with the present ecological perspective. Particularly, as the plan of urbanization in Korea which had been based on the deconstruction has been converted into the regeneration, economic and cultural regeneration is also demanded for the future plan besides material regeneration. This study aims to scrutinize various attributes of socially sustainable designs in Yerba Buena Garden of San Francisco, USA which has been globally well known as a successful example of urban regeneration. By way of visit-and-observation of the place, the research for the study was conducted during the month of December, 2007. Three researchers visited Yerba Buena Garden to observe and take photographs and to obtain relevant data and public documents in local public library. Socially sustainable design was measured on the basis of such principles; social facilitation, permeability and accessibility, safely and emotional stability, softness and feminism, and child care convenience. Relevant data were systematically organized to support and prove the above principles. The result of the study is expected to effectively be utilized for Korean environment plan and design as a benchmarking guidelines against the crisis of degeneration and the aging society with the lowest birthrates in the world.
