  • This paper gives a review of finite element model for the analysis of fastening as practical points of view. Different mechanical properties of plate-fastener systems are analyzed. Calculations of the system properties are described as well as the technique of their application in model. Analysis has been performed for calculating the load distribution in multi-joint and the results are compared using the several models. The effects of fastener-hole clearance on the load distribution in multifastener joints are presented. And the stress analysis method have been reviewed for failure analysis of mechanical joint of composite laminate.

  • The backward tracing scheme of the finite element analysis, which is counted to be unique and useful for process design in metal forming, has been developed and applied successfully in industry to several metal forming processes. Here the backward tracing scheme is implemented for process design of three-dimensional plastic deformation in metal forming, and it is applied to a precision coining process. The contact problem between the die and workpiece has been treated carefully during backward tracing simulation in three-dimensional deformation. The results confirm that the application of the developed program implemented with backward tracing scheme of the rigid plastic finite element leads to a reasonable initial piercing hole configuration. It is concluded that three-dimensional extension of the scheme appears to be successful for industrial applications.

  • Trench-Gate SOI LIGBT with improved latch-up capability has been proposed and verified by MEDICI simulation. The new SOI LIGBT exhibits 6 time larger latch-up capability of the new device is almost preserved independent of lifetime. the large latch-up capability of the new SOI LIGBT may be realized due to the fact that the hole current in the new device would bypass through the shorted cathode contact without passing the p-well region under the n+ cathode. Forward voltage drop is increased by 25% when a epi thickness is 6$\mu$m. However, the increase of the forward voltage is negligible when the epi thickness is increased to 10$\mu$m. It is found that the swithcing time of the new device is almost equal to the conventional devices. Evaluated breakdown voltage of proposed SOILIGBT is 250 V and that of the conventional SOI LIGBT is 240 V, where the thickness of the vuried oxide and n- epi is 3$\mu$m and 6$\mu$m, respectively.

  • Micro former has been known as a useful tool for machining micro parts. It makes micro holes automatically with punches, a hole-shape die and material by rotation of crank shaft synchronously. Micro displacement in micro forming affects on the performance of machining because micro forming size is similar with its mechanical displacement. Therefore, the measurement of this micro displacement is essential to be guaranteed to obtain high forming precision in the whole machine as well as its devices. This paper addresses the development of a laser interferometer to measure micro displacement for a micro former. The laser interferometer is able to measure micro displacement during a few micro seconds with non-contact. For the experiment, a laser probe is installed on the optical table with optical devices and a micro displacement generating device. The velocity decoding board is also added to calculate doppler shift frequency directly. Finally simple experiments are conducted to confirm its functional operation.

  • Uncertainties are inevitable in robotic assembly in unstructured environment since it is difficult to construct fixtures to guide motions of robots. This paper proposes an augmented Petri net and an algorithm to adapt the assembly model on-line during actual assembly process. The augmented Petri net identifies events using force and position information simultaneously. Unmodeled contact states are identified and incorporated into the model on-line. The proposed method increases the level of intelligence of the robot system by enhancing the autonomy. The proposed method is evaluated by simulation and experiments with L-type peg-in-hole assembly using a two-arm robot system.

  • In this study, $Al_2$O$_3$films have been deposited with Atomic Layer Deposition(ALD) for gate insulator for MPTMA and $H_2O$ at low temperature below 40$0^{\circ}C$ . Conventional methods of $Al_2$O$_3$thin film deposition have suffered from the poor step coverage due to reduction of device dimension and increasing contact/via hole aspect ratio. ALD is a self-limiting growth process with controlled surface reaction where the growth rate is only dependent on the number of growth cycle and the lattice parameter of materials. ALD growth process has many advantages including accurate thickness control, large area and large batch capability, good uniformity, and pinholes freeness.

  • The superhydrophobic and superoleophobic meshes surfaces have been used in various applications such as self-cleaning, anti-icing, gas exchange, oil-water separation, sound-wave penetrable anti-wetting structures, etc. In particular, there are many studies for oil-water separation with environmental issues. Because of high pressure and dynamic environment, oil-water separation filters must have stable surface properties as super-hydrophobicity and superoleophobicity. The oleophobicity of surface depends on the surface chemistry and roughness of the surface. The roughness of oleophobic surface enhances its static contact angle and stability. The multi-scale hierarchical structure provides a stable superhydrophobic state by maintaining a Cassie state. In this research, we fabricated a superoleophobic mesh with a multi-scale hierarchical structure to increase the pressure resistance and adjusted a size of the mesh hole.

  • The idler wheel installed at the front side of the newly developed tracked vehicle didn't meet the durability requirement by showing the crack failure near the jointed region at the wheel during the field test. To find the crack developing mechanism we constructed finite element model for the idler wheel representing the behavior of interface between each suspension units, material properties from the material test data and actual loading conditions. This paper shows a result that maximum von Mises stress near the bolt hole on the outer rim is higher than inner idler coressponding to the actual test result and that result was reversed by adopting the reinforcement outside of the outer rim.

  • The photodepositioned tungsten film by laser CVD has been carried out the taping test with scotch tape over 10 times. As a result, it exhibited strong adhesion to the under-film such as ITO and SiNx patterned on the LCD substrate. However, it was seriously attacked by alkaline solution used for removing polyimide. And a thickness of laser CVD tungsten film had a close relation to a speed of laser scanning. Also we have improved the success rate of a laser CVD repair with making two pairs of contact hole structure and decreasing laser scanning speed.

  • Using a coupled thermal-mechanical analysis, the thermal distortion of the ventilated disk brakes has been investigated based on the air cooling effects during 15 braking operations. The FEM results show that the bendings and distortions of the disk toward the left side are decreased, but the sinusoidal distortion of the disk rubbing surface along the arc length of the vent hole is highly increased by increasing the convective air cooling effects, which is heavily related to the squeal, wear and micro-thermal crackings at the rubbing surfaces due to uneven dissipation rates of friction heatings.
