  • Allowing on-site workers to access information of the construction process can enable task control, data integration, material and resource control. However, in the current practice of the construction industry, the existing methods and scope is quite limited, leading to inefficient management during the construction process. In this research, by adopting cutting edge technologies such as Augmented Reality(AR), digital twins, deep learning and computer vision with wearable AR devices, the authors proposed an AR visualization framework made of virtual components to help on-site workers to obtain information of the construction process with ease of use. Also, this paper investigates wearable AR devices and object detection algorithms, which are critical factors in the proposed framework, to test their suitability.

  • A variety of studies on concrete have been performed to examine the advantages for structural material, but less attention has been paid to the contribution of concrete to finishing. Due to this matter, specific management guidelines for construction and quality on exposed concrete have not been clearly established despite more construction cost and quality control are required. This study analyzed a impact factors on the quality by survey of the existing research and practice. Field tests were performed using mock-up models to analyze the quality of exposed concrete according to form manufacture method, concrete mix proportion, and concrete placing method. Results indicate that the quality of exposed concrete was determined by concrete mix proportion and construction managements. Guidelines of quality control on exposed concrete in construction stages were proposed.

  • Consultant and owner play a very important role in the construction sector which is one of the main sectors in economic development. There are many stakeholders in a construction project including but not limited to: owner, consultant, contractor, subcontractor, and supplier. The consultant is the party who is to stay in close touch with the project owner, which both consultant and owner are considered as the main key stakeholders to make the project happen. It's not a simple task for a consultant to just implement the same style of management and control within various projects that are of a different background and character of owners. Thus, the adjusting plan management and control to the owner environment has been an essential technique to drive the project to success. The objective of this paper is to identify the significant management techniques for adjusting a plan of management and control to the owner environment in Thailand. The methodology is the identification throughout the analogous to abduction from literature review and our empirical observations of Future Engineering Consultants Co, Ltd. We have been in consultation for twenty-five years (25) in Thailand with 209 projects from both public and private owners. As a result, there are (1) Project management styles, (2) Personal style, (3) Owner expectation management, (4) Scope Management, (5) Time Management, (6) Cost Management, (7) Quality Management, and (8) Environmental Management. The input are: a clear defined goal, showing respect by giving good service, maintaining high quality, keeping in touch with owners, and resources. This would give the output of the project's success by meeting the owner's expectation and requirements.

  • Currently, the quality management, safety management and environment management of domestic construction work does not form a infrastructure for integrated control which have been developed according to the unique characteristics based on respective the law. In other words, the quality manager and safety manager of human resources is set to a legal arrangement personnel, but environment manager of human resources is not. In addition, quality management standard is to perform the work to PDCA(Plan-Do-Check-Action) system which is reflected in all of the requirements of KS A ISO 9001 standard, but safety management plan and hazard harmfulness prevention plan are not properly reflected P(Plan), C(Check) and A(Action) system and focusing on only 4 section Do(D) in KOSHA 18001 standard requirement. Moreover environmental management plan is not even established requirement. Through examining the operation practices of an advanced nation prior to building the integrated control standard for construction work qualify safety.environment, the possibility of applying domestic is reviewed, and then this study is going to research the operation practices of Singapore.

  • The safety of marine construction workers and marine pollution problems are occurring due to large-scale offshore construction. In particular, underwater construction work in the sea has a higher risk than other work, so it is necessary to apply an unmanned alternative system that considers the safety of the workers. In this paper, the ROV system for offshore construction has been developed for underwater unmanned work. A monitoring system was developed for position control through the control of underwater propellants, pneumatic gripper, and monitoring of underwater work. As a result of the performance evaluation, the underwater movement speed of the ROV was evaluated to be 0.89 m/s, and it was confirmed that the maximum load of the pneumatic gripper was 80 kg. In addition, the network bandwidth required for underwater ROV control and underwater video streaming was evaluated to be more than 300Mbps, wired communication at 92.7 ~ 95.0Mbit/s at 205m, and wireless communication at 78.3 ~ 84.8Mbit/s.

  • Modular apartment houses are a relatively new approach to public housing in South Korea. While promising in terms of efficiency and potential cost benefits, initial occupancy and maintenance data highlight areas for improvement in quality control. Analysis of defects reported during occupancy and maintenance stages revealed a high prevalence of issues with wallpaper and flooring. This suggests a need for stricter quality control measures during the production and installation of these building components. Furthermore, maintenance data identified shortcomings in the waterproofing methods employed for roofs, as well as in the design and construction management of connections between the low-rise concrete frames and the modular units themselves, including balconies. These findings point towards the importance of meticulous design and rigorous construction management practices to ensure the long-term durability of these critical building elements. Finally, the research suggests that unifying responsibility for construction management by awarding contracts for both the frame and the modular units to a single company could improve overall quality control. This approach could potentially mitigate issues arising from divided responsibility and streamline communication channels. By addressing these quality control concerns, modular construction has the potential to become a more widely adopted and successful method for delivering public housing in South Korea.

  • Modern construction of tunneis and large caverns in hard rock involves high technology design and construction methods. The use of sofisticated construction equipment is also an important part of a succesful completion. Since tunnels and caverns in hard rock often is situated in urban or sub-urban areas, the construction works have to be carried out under strict control as far as vibrations and other impacts on the environment is concerned. This paper will mainty discuss modern methods and equipment for the construction of large caverns.
