The seismic performance of the ordinary steel reinforced concrete (SRC) columns has no significant improvement compared to the reinforced concrete (RC) columns mainly because I, H or core cross-shaped steel cannot provide sufficient confinement for core concrete. Two improved SRC columns by constructing with new-type shaped steel were put forward on this background, and they were named as enlarging cross-shaped steel and diagonal cross-shaped steel for short. The seismic behavior and carrying capacity of new-type SRC columns have been researched theoretically and experimentally, while the shear behavior remains unclear when the new-type columns are joined onto SRC beams. This paper presents an experimental study to investigate the shear capacity of new-type SRC joints. For this purpose, four new-type and one ordinary SRC joints under low reversed cyclic loading were tested, and the failure patterns, load-displacement hysteretic curves, joint shear deformation and steel strain were also observed. The ultimate shear force of joint specimens was calculated according to the beam-end counterforce, and effects of steel shape, load angel and structural measures on shear capacity of joints were analyzed. The test results indicate that: (1) the new-type SRC joints display shear failure pattern and has higher shear capacity than the ordinary one; (2) the oblique specimens have good bearing capacity if designed reasonably; and (3) the two proposed construction measures have little effect on the shear capacity of SRC joints embedded with diagonal cross-shaped steel. Based on the mechanism observed from the test, the formulas for calculating ultimate shear capacity considering the main factors (steel web, stirrup and axial compression ratio) were derived, and the calculated results agreed well with the experimental and simulated data.
The slim-floor solution provides an efficient alternative to the classic slab-over-beam configuration due to architectural and structural benefits. Two deficiencies can be identified in the current state-of-art: (i) the technique is limited to nonseismic applications and (ii) the lack of information on moment-resisting slim-floor beam-to-column joints. In the seismic design of framed structures, continuous beam-to-column joints are required for plastic hinges to form at the ends of the beams. The present paper proposes a slim-floor technical solution capable of expanding the current application of slim-floor joints to seismic-resistant composite construction. The proposed solution relies on a moment-resisting connection with a thick end-plate and large-diameter bolts, which are used to fulfill the required strength and stiffness characteristics of continuous connections, while maintaining a reduced height of the configuration. Considering the proposed novel solution and the variety of parameters that could affect the behavior of the joint, experimental and numerical validations are compulsory. Consequently, the current paper presents the experimental and numerical investigation of two slim-floor beam-to-column joint assemblies. The results are discussed in terms of moment-rotation curves, available rotational capacity and failure modes. The study focuses on developing reliable slim-floor beam joints that are applicable to steel building frame structures located in seismic regions.
The Half-depth precast deck is a structural system that utilizes pre-cast panels pre-built at the factory as formwork at the construction stage and as a major structural member at the same time after completion. These systems have joints between segments, and the detail and performance of the joints are factors that have a very large impact on the quality, such as the constructability and durability of the bridge decks. In this study, strength performance evaluation was performed for improved joints using connecting rebar by experimental method. Static loading tests were conducted on the test specimen with improved joint, those with existing joint and those without joint. The test results of the specimens were compared to each other, and the flexural strength required by the design was compared. The flexural strength required in the design was presented by finite element analysis. It has been shown that the flexural strength of the specimens with joints were more than twice that required by the design. But the flexural strength of the specimen with existing joint was about 84% of that without joint. The flexural strength of the specimen with improved joints was a nearly similar degree of that compared to the specimen without joint. And a comparison of the moment-deflection relationship curves of the two specimens also shows a very similar flexural behavior. It is confirmed that improved joint has sufficient flexural strength. In addition to strength, the bridge decks require serviceability, such as deflection and cracking, and in particular, fatigue resistance due to repetitive live loads is an important performance factor. Therefore, further verification studies are required.

A test rig with multi-functional purposes was specifically designed and manufactured to study the behavior of multi-planar welded tubular joints subjected to multi-planar concurrent axial loading. An experimental investigation was conducted on full-scale welded tubular joints with each consisting of one chord and eight braces under monotonic loading conditions. Two pairs or four representative specimens (two specimens for each joint type) were tested, in which each pair was reinforced with two kinds of different internal stiffeners at the intersections between the chords using welded rectangular hollow steel sections (RHSSs) and the braces using rolled circular hollow steel sections (CHSSs) and welded RHSSs. The effects of different internal stiffeners at the chord-brace intersection on the load capacity of joints under concurrent multi-planar axial compression/tension are discussed. The test results of joint strengths, failure modes, and load-stress curves are presented. Finite element analyses were performed to verify the experimental results. The study results show that the two different joint types with the internal stiffeners at the chord-brace intersection under axial compression/tension significantly increase the corresponding ultimate strength to far exceed the usual design strength. The load carrying capacity of welded tubular joints decreases with a higher degree of the manufacturing imperfection in individual braces at the tubular joints. Furthermore, the interaction effect of the concurrent axial loading applied at the welded tubular joint on member stress is apparent.
Experimental and discrete element approaches were used to examine the effects of F shape non-persistent joints on the failure behaviour of concrete under uniaxial compressive test. concrete specimens with dimensions of 200 cm×200 cm×50 cm were provided. Within the specimen, F shape non-persistent joint consisting three joints were provided. The large joint length was 6 cm, and the length of two small joints were 2 cm. Vertical distance between two small joints change from 1.5 cm to 4.5 cm with increment of 1.5 cm. In constant joint lengths, the angle of large joint change from 0° to 90° with increments of 30°. Totally 12 different models were tested under compression test. The axial load rate on the model was 0.05 mm/min. Concurrent with experimental tests, numerical simulation (Particle flow code in two dimension) were performed on the models containing F shape non-persistent joint. Distance between small joints and joint angles were similar to experimental one. the results indicated that the failure process was mostly governed by both of the Distance between small joints and joint angles. The axial loading rate on the model was 0.05 mm/min. The compressive strengths of the samples were related to the fracture pattern and failure mechanism of the discontinuities. Furthermore, it was shown that the compressive behaviour of discontinuities is related to the number of the induced tensile cracks which are increased by increasing the joint angle. In the first, there were only a few acoustic emission (AE) hits in the initial stage of loading, and then AE hits rapidly grow before the applied stress reached its peak. Furthermore, a large number of AE hits accompanied every stress drop. Finally, the failure pattern and failure strength are similar in both approaches i.e., the experimental testing and the numerical simulation approaches.
This paper's objective is to evaluate the experimental behavior of gap N-joints made of cold-formed, square, hollow steel sections, with a connection plate as a tension member. The principal parameters for testing included the ratio of chord width to thickness, the ratio of brace width to chord width, eccentric ratio, the shape of the compression member, the branch angle, and the stiffening plate of the chord flange. The strength and failure mode were examined through the test for the gap N-joint, consisting of several parameters. Based on the results of the test, the gap N-joints were determined according to the capacity preceding the displacement of the tension, regardless of the width ratio, and the split failure mode-connected surface for a chord in joints. The strength of the gap N-joints increased proportionally as the $2\gamma$(B/T) ratio decreased, and as the width ratio(${\beta}$) of branch to chord increased. Particularly, $2\gamma$(B/T) decreased as the capacity of gap N-joint increased. The results of the test were summarized for the capacity, initial stiffness, ductility, and change of the failure mode of each gap N-joint.

This technology is able to construct with hardening UREPALT adhesives and TPO URE-Sheet simultaneously using automatic equipments. the benefit of this construction method is that The layer of waterproofing is uniform and defect of construction would be reduced because of no construction joints between UREPALT adhesives and TPO URE-Sheet. Furthermore, this new method could accomplish shortening of construction period, quality control and saving of labor costs. Also the non-exposure waterproofing method would be protected from fire and safe for workers without using a torch.

The study is focused on the settling the developing direction of korean gas pressure welding machine which can be applied in korean construction sites with moderate and high performance. Gas pressure welding is more economical and has good performances than other steel bar jointing methods, as arc welding and mechanical joint etc. Therefore in Japan, the gas pressure welding, which has less loss of steel bars and low performance of joints, when connecting the D29 and thicker steel bars, Is one of the typical connection of steel reinforcement. But in Korea, the gas pressure welding method is not widely used caused by the shortage of skilled workers, and this situation in Korea can not be solved in short period. The training of the skilled workers takes long period(around $6\~10$ years), and there is no certification system for gas pressure welding. So to activate the gas pressure welding in Korea, the development of the automatic gas pressure welding machine is necessary, which gives regular performance of the steel bar joints and can be operated by not sufficient skilled workers. The automatic gas pressure welding machine was developed in Japan, but this machine has many problems when applied in korean construction sites. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a korean automatic gas pressure welding machine to overcome this problems. To develop korean automatic gas pressure welding machine, the problems, which shows when applied in korean construction sites, need to be investigated. According to the investigation, counterproposals are presented for the pragmatical development of the korean automatic gas pressure welding machine.

When steel fabricators erect structural members in field, temporary tightening of fastener should be useful. However, if bolt holes are not aligned by production error or natural condition, additional effort andpain should be provided to align bolt holes. It lead to longer period than times of construction (a primarily day of construction) and more cost than originally cost. This problem will be overcomed by oversize or slotted holes. Early, AISC and Eurocode have included provision for design process such oversize or slotted holes. But, domestic design method is not refered about oversize and slotted holes. Meanwhile, domestic design method and construction environment are variance with Europe and the United States of America. Therefore, a suitable design method for oversize and slotted holes in domestic real condition is needed. In this study, we evaluated behavior of the joints and decided the friction coefficient on oversize and slotted holes of friction joints with high strength bolts.
