  • This paper presents experimental investigations about flexural strength and durability of reinforced concrete beams repaired using ductile fiber reinforced cementitious composite (DFRCC) and carbon fiber sheet through freezing and thawing test. Total 14 RC beams of $100{\times}100{\times}400mm$ size were tested by 3-point bending and freezing and thawing test by KS F 2456. The beams were reinforced using 3D10 steels on both the tensile and compressive sides, and repaired on 3 sides expect on top cycle. Test results showed that the beams repaired using fiber carbon sheet revealed about 15% higher values of flexural strength compared than the cases of DFRCC motar. On the other hand, the results did not showed meaningful differences in the aspect of durability. For further research, consideration of the steel interference effect and real old specimens such as taken from real deteriorated structures are needed to be tested after repairing with DFRCC and carbon fiber sheet.

  • To study the influence of different reduced beam section (RBS) on the mechanical performance of modular boltedwelded hybrid connection joints (MHCJs), this article uses ABAQUS to establish and verify the finite element model (FEM) of the test specimens on the basis of quasi-static test research. Based on, 14 joint models featuring different RBS are devised to evaluate their influence on seismic behavior, such as joint failure mode, bending moment (M)-rotation angle (θ) curve, ductility, and energy consumption. The results indicate that when the flange and web are individually weakened, they alleviate to some extent the concentrated stress of the core module (CM) and column end steel skeleton in the joint core area, but both increase the stress on the flange connecting plate (FCP). At the same time, the impact of both on seismic performance such as bearing capacity, stiffness, and energy consumption is relatively small. When simultaneously weakening the flange and web of the steel beam, forming plastic hinges at the weakened position of the beam end, significantly alleviated the stress concentration of the CM and the damage at the FCP, improving the overall deformation and energy consumption capacity of joints. But as the weakening size of the web increases, the overall bearing capacity of the joint shows a decreasing trend.

  • Survival rate of larval red spotted grouper, Epinephelus akaara is very low, because mouth size of the larvae is too small to eat normal sizes of rotifers. In order to enhance larval survival, optimal culture conditions for larvae using different live foods and water temperatures were studied. Bigger live food produced larger size of rotifer, when the rotifer was cultured with three different live foods such as Tetraselmis tetrathele, marine Chlorella and Nannochloris oculata. Also, the size of rotifer produced was temperature-dependent showing that higher water temperature induced smaller rotifer. Survial rate of the larvae increased with the increase of water temperature up to $29{\circ}C$. Also, higher larval survials were found at the food density of 15 to 20 individuals per milliliter. The larvae fed L-type or small individuals of L-type rotifer died all within a week, although the larvae fed S-type or small individuals of S-type one survived successfully during this period. The size of small individuals of S-type rotifer collected through fine net became larger in a few hours within larval culture tank. Survival rate of grouper larvae with initial stocking density of 40 thousands in 6-ton concrete tank was 6.3% in 10 days and 0.2% in 53 days after hatching, respectively. Total length of the larvae reached around 29.5 mm in 53days after hatching.

  • In this paper, the properties of the cement mortar modified with styrene acrylic ester copolymer were investigated. Expanded vermiculite as lightweight aggregate was used for making the polymer modified mortar test specimens. To study the effect of polymer-cement ratio and vermiculite-cement ratio on various properties, specimens were prepared by varying the polymer-cement and vermiculite-cement ratios. Tests of physical properties such as density, water absorption, thermal conductivity, three-point flexure and compressive tests were made on the specimens. Furthermore, a coupled thermal-structural finite element model of an entire corner wall was modelled in order to study the best material configuration. The wall is composed by a total of 132 bricks of $120{\times}242{\times}54$ size, joined by means of a contact-bonded model. The use of advanced numerical methods allows us to obtain the optimum material properties. Finally, comparisons of polymer-cement and vermiculite-cement ratios on physical properties are given and the most important conclusions are exposed.

  • Two new predictive design methods are presented in this study. The first is a hybrid method, called neuro-fuzzy, based on neural networks with fuzzy learning. A total of 280 experimental datasets obtained from the literature concerning concentric punching shear tests of reinforced concrete slab-column connections without shear reinforcement were used to test the model (194 for experimentation and 86 for validation) and were endorsed by statistical validation criteria. The punching shear strength predicted by the neuro-fuzzy model was compared with those predicted by current models of punching shear, widely used in the design practice, such as ACI 318-08, SIA262 and CBA93. The neuro-fuzzy model showed high predictive accuracy of resistance to punching according to all of the relevant codes. A second, more user-friendly design method is presented based on a predictive linear regression model that supports all the geometric and material parameters involved in predicting punching shear. Despite its simplicity, this formulation showed accuracy equivalent to that of the neuro-fuzzy model.

  • This study was performed to Investigate the utilization of waste concretes for neutralization and removal of heavy metals In plating wastewater, because waste concretes have been known to be very porous, to have high species surface area and to have alkaline minerals such as calcium. The results obtained from this research showed that waste concretes had a buffer capacity to neutralize an acidic alali system in plating wastewater. Generally, neutralization and removal rate of heavy metals were excellent in the increase of waste concrete amounts and a small size. Because a coefficient of correlation was high, it seemed that removal of heavy metals could be explained by Freundlich and Langmuir isotherms. If we reflected the adsorption capacity(k) and adsorption intensity(1/n) of Freundlich isotherm, we couldn't consider waste concretes as a good adsorbent. But, we could know that waste concretes were capable of removing a part of heavy metals. In point of building waste debris, if waste concretes substituted for a valuable adsorbent such as actuated carbon, they could look forward to an expected economical effect.

  • In this paper, steel reinforced concrete(SRC) column and composite beam connections were statically tested under gravity loading. The composite beam consists of H-section and U-section members. Five full-scaled specimens were designed to investigate the effect of a number of parameters on behavior of connections such as H-section size, the presence of stud connector, the presence of stiffeners and top bars. In addition, structural performance of welded joint between the H-section and the U-section members is mainly discussed, with an emphasis on initial stiffness, strength, deformation capacity.

  • This paper describes the possibility of the raft thickness reduction for mega foundations system of super high-rise buildings through a case study on domestic and foreign super high-rise buildings. In case of super high-rise buildings, the size of foundations, especially raft becomes wider and deeper because of heavy upper load. It is difficult to pour concrete of this kind of mega foundation, and cracks by hydration heat could happen. Therefore, there are several ways to reduce the raft thickness of mega foundations. Piled-raft could be the one because moment and shear load that the raft subjects on by soil reaction are lower. The effect of the piled-raft foundation on the raft thickness reduction could be confirmed by comparison of super high-rise buildings with pile, piled-raft and mat foundation. Furthermore, it was showed that the raft thickness could be more reduced by locating piles right under the vertical members of super structures.

  • Energetically-modified material using reject fly ash (RFA), generated from thermal power plants, was manufactured to investigate the effect of the material on the physical and chemical characteristics of cement mortar. In order to modify reject fly ash, a vibration mill was used. Particle size, grain shape, and crystal structure of the ash were analyzed. Then, the compressive strength of the mortar using energetically-modified reject fly ash (ERFA) was measured. Microstructure and X-ray diffraction (XRD) patterns were also used in the analysis. As the replacement rate of ERFA increased, the value of the compressive strength tended to decrease. However, it was found that the compressive strength values of 7 and 28 days-cured specimens were higher than those of conventional ordinary Portland cement (OPC) mortar with 10 % replacement rate condition.
