This study describes the WASMOD, water balance model which can consider the snowmelting. The pilot study basin is the Soyang River basin with outlet at Soyang Dam Site and compute long-term monthly streamflow, The advantage of the WASMOD is that the input data is simple and the user can operate easily. To optimize for the parameters of the model, the WASMOD used VA05A of automatic fitting technique. The observed and simulated monthly streamflow hydrographs were compared. The model performance on corrleation coefficient between the observed and the simulated streamflow for the verification periods was above 0.89. It was shown that the WASMOD reproduces the observed monthly streamflow hydrographs very well. This evidence suggests that the WASMOD might be appropriate for the simulation of monthly streamflow
This paper demonstrates the numerical simulation of three dimensional flow pattern for vehicular exhaust dispersion in the street canyons. The wind flow around buildings in urban is computed by the SIMPLEST method. The convection-diffusion equation was used to compute the $NO_X$ concentration level near buildings. Details are given of important boundary conditions and turbulence quantities variations. The simple turbulence model was used for unisotropic viscous effect. A control-volume based finite-difference method with the upwind scheme is employed for discretization equation. The simple turbulence model applied in this study has been verified through comparison between predicted and measured data near buildings. By the predictive results, the updraft induced by the presence of high-rise buildings is important in the transport of street level pollutant out from the street canyons. Our suggestion for reducing ground level pollution is to have high-rise buildings constructed or to reduce the channelling effect of street canyons.

Ozone is an important atmospheric pollutant that is occurred in tropospheric chemical process and it also affects the human health and plants. For a correct application of abatement strategies for ozone, it is necessary to understand the factors that control atmospheric ozone removal by dry deposition processes. The present study investigates the numerical simulation of the dry deposition velocity (V$^{d}$ ) obtained from PNU/DEM (Pusan National University Deposition Model). PNU/DEM includes seasonal categories, meteorological factors, surface properties and land-use types and proposes for an accurate numerical computation. And, this study examines the ability of the PNU/DEM to compute V$_{d}$ of ozone over water surfaces and evaluates PNU/DEM by comparing its estimated V$_{d}$ to past observed V$_{d}$ over water. The parametrization was found to yield V$_{d}$ values generally in good agreement with the observations for the deciduous forest and the coniferous forest. Ozone is removed slowly at wet surface or water due to its low water solubility. Therefore V$_{d}$ values over water were lower than Vd values over the other surfaces. Comparison of PNU/DEM simulated V d values to observations of ozone V$_{d}$ that have been reported in the literature implies that PNU/DEM produces realistic results.
In the bolted connections, bolt placements are generally described and are generally made in the direction of design effects and in the perpendicular direction to design effects. In these both directions, the reliability of the distance of bolts to the edges of connection plate and the distance of bolts to each other is investigated for high strength steel connections built up with high strength bolts in this study. For this purpose, simple SL (bearing type shear connection) and SLP (bearing type shear connection for body-fit bolts) type steel connections with St 52 grade steel plates with 8 different thicknesses and with 8.8D grade high strength bolts (HV) were constituted and analyzed under H (Dead Loads+Live Loads+Snow Loads+Roof Loads) and HZ (H Loads+Wind Loads+Earthquake Loads) loadings. Geometric properties, material properties and design actions were taken as random variables. Monte Carlo Simulation method was used to compute failure risk and the first order second moment method was used to determine the reliability indexes of those different distances describing the placement of bolts. Results obtained from computations have been presented in graphics and in a Table. Then, they were compared with some values proposed by some structural codes. Finally, new equations were constituted for minimum and maximum values of distances describing bolt placement by regression analyses performed on those results.
This paper describes real time implementation of subband sound localization system on a floating-point DSP TI TMS320C31. The system determines two dimensional location of an active speaker in a closed room environment with real noise presents. The system consists of an two microphone array connected to TI DSP hosted by PC. The implemented sound localization algorithm is Subband CPSP which is an improved version of traditional CPSP (Cross-Power Spectrum Phase) method. The algorithm first split the input speech signal into arbitrary number of subband using subband filter banks and calculate the CPSP in each subband. It then averages out the CPSP results on each subband and compute a source location estimate. The proposed algorithm has an advantage over CPSP such that it minimize the overall estimation error in source location by limiting the specific band dominant noise to that subband. As a result, it makes possible to set up a robust real time sound localization system. For real time simulation, the input speech is captured using two microphone and digitized by the DSP at sampling rate 8192 hz, 16 bit/sample. The source location is then estimated at once per second to satisfy real-time computational constraints. The performance of the proposed system is confirmed by several real time simulation of the speech at a distance of 1m, 2m, 3m with various speech source locations and it shows over 5% accuracy improvement for the source location estimation.
An analysis of potential flooding by storm surge and wave run-up and overtopping can be used to evaluate protection afforded by the existing storm protection system. The analysis procedure can also be used to evaluate various protection alternatives for providing typhoon flood protection. To determine risk, the storm surges for both historical and hypothetical are compiled with tide conditions to represent high, slack and low water for neap, spring and mid range tides to use with the statistical procedure known as the Empirical Simulations Technique (EST). The EST uses the historic and hypothetical events to generate a large population of life-cycle databases that are used to compute mean value maximum storm surge elevation frequency relationships. The frequency-of-occurrence relationship is determined for all relevant locations along the shoreline at appropriate locations to identify the effect using the Empirical Storm Simulation (EST). To assist with understanding the process, an example is presented for a study of storm surge analysis for Freeport, Texas. This location is in the Gulf of Mexico and is subject to hurricanes and other tropical storms that approach from the Atlantic Ocean.
We propose a novel framework for controlling various and complex models using primitive model. To control original model, first we correspond original model to simplified primitive model that contains original model. After doing deformable simulation with primitive model, we compute original model by inversion of result. Since existing method can only control one type formed models, our method - which can control all difference formed models by only one primitive model - has contribution. In conclusion, we show results that efficiently and intuitionally control the various deformable models by using one example primitive model.

The present work proposes the thermo mechanically induced statistics of nonlinear transverse central deflection of elastically supported functionally graded (FG) plate subjected to static loadings with random system properties. The FG plate is supported on two parameters Pasternak foundation with Winkler cubic nonlinearity. The random system properties such as material properties of FG material, external loading and foundation parameters are assumed as uncorrelated random variables. The material properties are assumed as non-uniform temperature distribution with temperature dependent (TD) material properties. The basic formulation for static is based on higher order shear deformation theory (HSDT) with von-Karman nonlinear strain kinematics through Newton-Raphson method. A second order perturbation technique (SOPT) and direct Monte Carlo simulation (MCS) are used to compute the nonlinear governing equation. The effects of load parameters, plate thickness ratios, aspect ratios, volume fraction, exponent, foundation parameters, and boundary conditions with random system properties are examined through parametric studies. The results of present approaches are compared with those results available in the literature and by employing direct Monte Carlo simulation (MCS).
Electron microbursts, energetic electron precipitation having duration less than 1 sec, have been thought to be generated by chorus wave and electron interactions. While the coincidence of chorus and microburst occurrence supports the wave-particle interaction theory, more crucial evidences have not been observed to explain the origin of microbursts. We propose the measurement of energy dispersion of microbursts could be an evidence supporting wave-particle theory. During chorus waves propagate along magnetic field, the resonance condition should be satisfied at different magnetic latitude for different energy electrons. If we observed electron microbursts at low altitude, the arrival time of different energy electrons should make unique dispersion structures. In order to observe such energy dispersion, we need a detector having fast time resolution and wide energy range. Our study is motivated from defining the time resolution and energy range of the detectors required to measure microburst energy dispersions. We performed test particles simulation to investigate how electrons interact with simple coherent waves like chorus waves. We compute a large number of electron's trajectories and successfully produce energy dispersion structures expected when microbursts are observed with 10 msec time resolution detectors at the altitude of 600 km. These results provide useful information in designing electron detectors for the future mission.

This paper performs a numerical computation of ship maneuvering performance in waves. For this purpose, modular-type model (MMG (Mathematical Modeling Group) model) is adopted for maneuvering simulation and wave drift force is included in the equation of maneuvering motion. In order to compute wave drift force, two different seakeeping programs are used: AdFLOW based on Wave Green function method and SWAN based on Rankine panel method. When wave drift force is calculated using SWAN program, not only ship forward speed but also ship lateral speed are considered. By doing this, effects of lateral speed on wave drift force and maneuvering performance in waves are confirmed. The developed method is validated by comparing turning test results in regular waves with existing experimental data. Sensitivities of wave drift force on maneuvering performance are, also, checked.
