THE CONVERGENCE OF A DUAL ALGORITHM FOR NONLINEAR PROGRAMMING

  • A dual algorithm based on the smooth function proposed by Polyak (1988) is constructed for solving nonlinear programming problems with inequality constraints. It generates a sequence of points converging locally to a Kuhn-Tucker point by solving an unconstrained minimizer of a smooth potential function with a parameter. We study the relationship between eigenvalues of the Hessian of this smooth potential function and the parameter, which is useful for analyzing the effectiveness of the dual algorithm.

  • In order to search more efficient structural control algorithm, several closed-loop algorithm are developed. Among those, feedback control algorithm using parameters as displacement velocity, and acceleration has been studied. In this paper, especially the characteristics of accleration feedback is studied as more efficient control algorithm than any others. Furthermore the fact that ATMD with acceleration feedback system further reduce the variance of structural displacement rather than with displacement or velocity feedback system will be examined and proved.

  • This study presents the applicable possibility of numerical optimization and Genetic Algorithm in the design of truss structures using discrete variables and real constraints. The introduction of Genetic Algorithm in the design of truss structures enables us to do easier formulation and handle discrete variables. To investigate these applicable possibility, the design of 15 - bar truss structures has been studied using GT/STRUDL and Genetic Algorithm and the results of Genetic Algorithm are compared with GT/STRUDL's.

  • An optimization algorithm based on Genetic Algorithm(GA) is developed for discrete optimization of reinforced concrete plane frame by constructing databases. Under multiple loading conditions, discrete optimum sets of reinforcements for both negative and positive moments in beams, their dimensions, column reinforcement, and their column dimensions are found. Construction practice is also implemented by linking columns and beams by group ‘Connectivity’between columns located in the same column line is also considered. It is shown that the developed genetic algorithm was able to reach optimum design for reinforced concrete plane frame construction practice.

  • In order to solve the difficulties of parameter settings in SA algorithm, an improved practical SA algorithm is proposed by employing the threading techniques, appropriate software structures, and dynamic adjustments of temperature parameters. Threads provide a mechanism to realize a parallel processing under a disperse environment by controlling the flux of internal information of an application. Thread services divide a process by multiple processes leading to parallel processing of information to access common data. Therefore, efficient search is achieved by multiple search processes, different initial conditions, and automatic temperature adjustments. The proposed are methods are evaluated, for three types of Traveling Salesman Problem (TSP) (random-tour, fractal-tour, and TSPLIB test data)are used for the performance evaluation. The experimental results show that the computational time is 5% decreased comparing to conventional SA algorithm, furthermore there is no need for manual parameter settings. These results also demonstrate that the proposed method is applicable to real-world vehicle routing problems.

  • Many important large-scale linear programs with special structures lead to special computational procedures which are more ef-ficient than the ordinary procedure of the generalized methods. Prob-lems and their solvers taking advantage of multiple updatings of the basis in the dual simplex type method are presented. Computational results run by the efficient algorithm and a presented. Computational results run by the efficient algorithm and a standard code MINOS for the test problems are compared and analyzed. It is shown that the amount of work for the optimal solution for the prblem can be re-duced by the new algorithm.

  • This paper describes the development of a parallel computational algorithm based on the finite element tearing and interconnecting (FETI) method that uses a local Lagrange multiplier. In this approach, structural computational domain is decomposed into non-overlapping sub-domains using local Lagrange multiplier. The local Lagrange multipliers are imposed at interconnecting nodes. 8-node solid element using extra shape function is adopted by using the representative volume element (RVE). The parallel computational algorithm is further established based on message passing interface (MPI). Finally, the present FETI-local approach is implemented on parallel hardware and shows improved performance.

  • In order to use the Massive MIMO (Multi Input Multi Output) technology using the massive array antenna, it is essential to know the angle of arrival (AOA) of the signal. When using a massive array antenna, the existing AOA estimation algorithm has excellent estimation performance, but also has a disadvantage in that computational complexity increases in proportion to the number of antenna elements. To solve this problem, a cascade AOA estimation algorithm has been proposed and the performance of a single-shaped (non)massive array antenna has been proven through a number of papers. However, the computational complexity of the cascade AOA estimation algorithm to which single and double rim array antennas are applied has not been compared. In this paper, we compare and analyze the computational complexity for AOA estimation when single and double rim array antennas are applied to the cascade AOA estimation algorithm.

AN APPROXIMATE GREEDY ALGORITHM FOR TAGSNP SELECTION USING LINKAGE DISEQUILIBRIUM CRITERIA

  • In this paper, we first construct a mathematical model for tagSNP selection based on LD measure $r^2$, then aiming at this kind of model, we develop an efficient algorithm, which is called approximate greedy algorithm. This algorithm is able to make up the disadvantage of the greedy algorithm for tagSNP selection. The key improvement of our approximate algorithm over greedy algorithm lies in that it adds local replacement(or local search) into the greedy search, tagSNP is replaced with the other SNP having greater similarity degree with it, and the local replacement is performed several times for a tagSNP so that it can improve the tagSNP set of the local precinct, thereby improve tagSNP set of whole precinct. The computational results prove that our approximate greedy algorithm can always find more efficient solutions than greedy algorithm, and improve the tagSNP set of whole precinct indeed.

  • In this paper, a best-basis selection algorithm that improves the performance of the coding gains and the computational complexity is proposed. The proposed algorithm limits the computational complexity according to the resolved threshold value and decomposes the parent subbands by using the top-down tree search and the relative energy between the parent subbands and the child subbands. For the experiments of the proposed algorithm, the bit-rates, the peak signal-to-noise ratio (PSNR), and the reconstructed images are presented by using the Quad-tree coder. The result of the proposed algorithm is compared to that of DWT algorithm using the Quad-tree coder for a set of standard test images. In addition, the result of the proposed algorithm is compared to that of JPEG-2000 algorithm and that of S+P algorithm.
