  • Finding a new set of features representing textured images is one of the most important studies in textured image analysis. This is because it is impossible to construct a perfect set of features representing every textured image, and it is inevitable to choose some relevant features which are efficient to on-going image processing jobs. This paper intends to find relevant features which are efficient to textured image segmentation. In this regards, this paper presents a different method for the segmentation of textured images based on the Gabor filter. Gabor filter is known to be a very efficient and effective tool which represents human visual system for texture analysis. Filtering a real-valued input image by the Gabor filter results in complex-valued output data defined in the spatial frequency domain. This complex value, as usual, gives the module and the phase. This paper focused its attention on the phase information, rather than the module information. In fact, the module information is considered very useful at region analysis in texture, while the phase information was considered almost of no use. But this paper shows that the phase information can also be fully useful and effective at region analysis in texture, once a good method introduced. We now propose "phase derivated method", which is an efficient and effective way to compute the useful phase information directly from the filtered value. This new method reduces effectively computing burden and widen applicable textured images.

  • This paper is study on the pressure monitoring system(PMS) for ship's engine performance analysis( SEPA) based on web, with high speed and accuracy. This system is composed of pressure sensor, monitoring module with multi channel A/D converter, TCP/IP and satellite internet communication system. Existing domestic products measure cylinder pressure when piston of first explosive cylinder reached TDC(the top dead center) point and then measure next cylinder pressure manually each angle divided by a constant rotating interval. But presented system monitors in the local and web computer, using pressure information transmitted from pressure sensor installed on each engine. In this system, it is possible to increase the accuracy of the engine performance analysis because not only each TDC points but cylinder pressures synchronized with the TDC points could be measured in real time, accurately. And therefore, it may be used in a various diagnosis of main engines, such as deviations of each cylinder maximum pressures(Pmax) and the TDC firing positions and combustion conditions.

  • This paper presents design and verification of a face detection hardware for real time application. Face detection algorithm detects rough face position based on already acquired feature parameter data. The hardware is composed of five main modules: Integral Image Calculator, Feature Coordinate Calculator, Feature Difference Calculator, Cascade Calculator, and Window Detection. It also includes on-chip Integral Image memory and Feature Parameter memory. The face detection hardware was verified by using S3C2440A CPU of Samsung Electronics, Virtex4LX100 FPGA of Xilinx, and a CCD Camera module. Our design uses 3,251 LUTs of Xilinx FPGA and takes about 1.96${\sim}$0.13 sec for face detection depending on sliding-window step size, when synthesized for Virtex4LX100 FPGA. When synthesized on Magnachip 0.25um ASIC library, it uses about 410,000 gates (Combinational area about 345,000 gates, Noncombinational area about 65,000 gates) and takes less than 0.5 sec for face realtime detection. This size and performance shows that it is adequate to use for embedded system applications. It has been fabricated as a real chip as a part of XF1201 chip and proven to work.

  • Smart appliances with multi-media and telecommunication equipments provide users complicated convenience functions. On the contrary, 8-bit controller-based low performance electronics still cannot afford such multimedia and telecommunication. If we find a way to have low-end electronics connected and provide complicated functions, they can be also made "smart". Fortunately, 8-bit controllers used in low-end appliances have UART, which can be connected to any of BlueTooth, Wi-Fi and ZigBee communication modules which can, in turn, communicate with smart devices. Any communication module can be attached to the low-end electronics due to the variety of smart devices' connectivity at the other side. Although the convenience functions seem complicated, they are actually macros in a script form composed of micro commands which implement the base functions of appliances. Since the kinds of the base functions are not that many, the low-end electronic appliances will become "smart" if their control program can be extended to execute sequentially the micro commands in any combination. Such simple innovation has not seen the world, until now due to the overhead of the additionally required hardware such as display devices and buttons. The high-quality display and touch screen functionalities of smart devices can replace the required hardware, and remove the overhead completely. In fact, the low-end appliances become smart as if an "evolution kit" is newly equipped.

  • This paper proposes "A Smart Farm Environment Optimization and Yield Prediction Platform based on IoT and Deep Learning" which gathers bio-sensor data from farms, diagnoses the diseases of growing crops, and predicts the year's harvest. The platform collects all the information currently available such as weather and soil microbes, optimizes the farm environment so that the crops can grow well, diagnoses the crop's diseases by using the leaves of the crops being grown on the farm, and predicts this year's harvest by using all the information on the farm. The result shows that the average accuracy of the AEOM is about 15% higher than that of the RF and about 8% higher than the GBD. Although data increases, the accuracy is reduced less than that of the RF or GBD. The linear regression shows that the slope of accuracy is -3.641E-4 for the ReLU, -4.0710E-4 for the Sigmoid, and -7.4534E-4 for the step function. Therefore, as the amount of test data increases, the ReLU is more accurate than the other two activation functions. This paper is a platform for managing the entire farm and, if introduced to actual farms, will greatly contribute to the development of smart farms in Korea.

  • In the monitoring of a patient in a sickroom, not only the physiologic and environmental data of the patient, which is automatically measured, but also the clinical data(clinical chart)of the patient, which is drew up by a doctor or nurse, are recognized as important data. However, since in the current environment of a sickroom, clinical data is collected being divided from the data that is automatically measured, the two data are used without an effective integration. This is because the integration of the two data is difficult due to their different collection times, which leads the reconstruction of clinical data to be remarkably uncertain. In order to solve these problems, a method to synchronize the continuous environmental data of a sickroom and clinical data is appearing as an important measure. In addition, the increase of use of small machines and the development of solutions based on wireless communications provide a communication platform to the developers of health care. Thus, this paper realizes a remote system for taking care of patients based on a web that uses mobile phones. That is, clinical data made by a nurse or doctor and the environmental data of a sick room comes to be collected by a collection module through a wireless sensor network. An observer can see clinical data and the environmental data of a sickroom through his/her mobile phone, integrating and storing his/her data into the database. Families of a patient can see clinical data made by hospital and the environment of the sick room of the patent through their computers or mobile phones outside the hospital. Through the system, hospital can provide better medical services to patients and their families.

  • Recently, the maritime environment contaminated by the abandoned fishing gears. To solve this problem, there requires systematic management techniques for the fishing gears based on ICT technologies. The existed systems are optionally used by owners, but the systems need to adopt the monitoring and control architecture for integrated national surveillance. To do this, we designed an architecture for effective monitoring and management which collects position and state information using automatic identification buoy (AIB) device, to send the fishing ship, administrator ship, and shore side control center based on the IoT networks. Especially, in this paper, we developed the ENC-based integrated control system for efficient management which provides functions for position indication, state information display and loss alarm of fishing gears. Also, we conduct performance tests for data processing and visualization functions of the system to use a virtual buoy generation module.

  • This paper proposes a memory allocation model for Real-Time Linux. The proposed model allows users to create several continuous memory regions in an application, to specify an appropriate region allocation policy for each memory region, and to request memory blocks from a necessary memory region. Instead of using single memory management module in order to support the proposed model, we adopt two-layered structure that is consisted of region allocators implementing allocation policies and a region manager controlling regions and region allocator modules. This structure separates allocation policy from allocation mechanism, thus allows system developers to implement same allocation policy using different algorithms in case of need. IN addition, it enables them to implement new allocation policy using different algorithms in case of need. In addition, it enables them to implement new allocation policy easily as long as they preserver predefined internal interfaces, to add the implemented policy into the system, and to remove unnecessary allocation policies from the system, Because the proposed model provides various allocation policies implemented previously, system builders can also reconfigure the system by just selecting most appropriate policies for a specific application without implementing these policies from scratch.
