  • Purpose: To determine the effect of sex communication with friends and sexual double standard on contraceptive self-efficacy among university students. Methods: With a survey design, data were collected from 251 university students from three universities in G city from September 2016 to October 2016. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, t-test, ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and stepwise multiple regression. Results: Sex communication with friends, sexual double standard, and contraceptive self-efficacy scores of participants were $58.82{\pm}8.78$, $21.73{\pm}6.00$, and $44.20{\pm}5.91$, respectively. Sex communication with friends and sexual double standard were related to contraceptive self-efficacy. Sexual double standard, sex communication with friends, female, contraceptive education, and contraceptive experience explained 33% of contraceptive self-efficacy of participants. Conclusion: Sexual double standard and sex communication with friends were influencing factors of contraceptive self-efficacy. To improve contraceptive self-efficacy of university students, a program is needed to eliminate sexual double standard and improve sex communication with friends among university students in Korea.

The focus was on the mediating effects of self-efficacy in the relationship between communication skills and practices of preventing infectious diseases. Methods: This study used a descriptive correlational design. The participants were 164 daycare center teachers. Hierarchical regression was used to test the mediating effect of self-efficacy in the relationship between communication skills and practices of preventing infectious diseases. Data were analyzed using the independent t-test, one-way analysis of variance, Pearson correlation coefficients, and hierarchical regression. The mediation effect was analyzed using an SPSS Macro program, PROCESS. Results: Significant relationships were found between communication skills and practices of preventing infectious diseases (β=.19, p<.001), self-efficacy and practices of preventing infectious diseases (β=.59, p<.001), and communication skills and self-efficacy (β=.27, p<.001). Self-efficacy had a significant mediating effect (β=.17, 95% confidence interval=0.07~0.29) on practices of preventing infectious diseases. Conclusion: In order to improve practices of preventing infectious diseases among daycare teachers, it is necessary to develop and apply interventions and methods that can increase effective communication skills and self-efficacy.

  • Purpose : This study examined how of nursing students affects their academic self-efficacy and communication ability on self-leadership. Methods : The subjects of this study included 269 nursing students enrolled in a college located in City B, South Korea during a period between June and July 2021. The collected data were analyzed using SPSS/WIN 22.0 program to compute frequency, percentage, mean and standard deviation and conduct t-test, ANOVA, Scheffe's test, Pearson Correlation Coefficient, and multiple regression analysis. Results : The nursing students had average academic self-efficacy of 3.10±.42, communication ability of 3.78±.53, and self-leadership of 3.16±.44. Among the self-leadership sub-factors, self-reward was the highest with 3.94±.74 points. The academic self-efficacy of the subjects demonstrated a significant difference according to happiness index (F=8.83, p<.001) and health (F=3.38, p=.035). The communication ability showed a significant difference depending on year of study (F=5.62, p<.001), happiness index (F=5.95, p<.001), and experience of clinical training (t=-3.57, p<.001). The self-leadership demonstrated a significant difference according to year of study (F=4.28, p=.006), satisfaction with major (F=7.37, p<.001), happiness index (F=3.68, p=.013), and experience of clinical training (t=-3.41, p<.001). A positive correlation was observed between the subject's academic self-efficacy and communication ability (r=.40, p<.001), as well as the academic self-efficacy and self-leadership (r=.45, p<.001). The communication ability (𝛽=.36, p<.001) was proven to be the strongest influential factor on the self-leadership, followed by academic self-efficacy (𝛽=.28, p<.001), satisfaction with major (𝛽=.13, p=.011), and experience of clinical training (𝛽=.13, p=.013). Conclusion : This study results imply that repeated studies that investigate the nursing students' academic self-efficacy, communication ability, and self-leadership are required. Furthermore, efforts should be made to develop programs aimed at enhancing nursing students' academic self-efficacy, communication ability, and self-leadership.

  • Purpose: This study aims to identify the relationship between nursing students' social anxiety and communication ability, and in particular, to determine the mediating effect of self-efficacy. Methods: A total of 187 nursing students enrolled at four universities in Korea completed surveys between August and September 2020. The measurements included the Global Interpersonal Communication Competence Scale, self-efficacy scales, and interaction anxiousness scales. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, an independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation, multiple regression following the Baron and Kenny method, and bootstrapping for mediation. Results: Communication ability was significantly negatively correlated with social anxiety (r=-.61, p<.001) and significantly positively correlated with self-efficacy (r=.77, p<.001). Furthermore, self-efficacy had a partial mediating effect on the relationship between social anxiety and communication ability. Conclusion: The findings of this study suggest that communication ability can be improved if individual characteristics such as social anxiety and self-efficacy are considered. Therefore, when developing communication ability improvement programs for nursing students in the future, it is considered important to actively consider these personal characteristics.

  • Purpose: This study was performed to provide basic educational data for improvement of satisfaction in clinical practice by investigating the relationship of clinical practice satisfaction with self-efficacy, fatigue and communication skill in dental hygiene students. Methods: A survey using a self-administered questionnaire was conducted among 205 second- and third-year students enrolled in an dental hygiene program at three colleges located in A and B province from March 10 to April 10, 2018. Results: Satisfaction level of clinical practice was significantly higher in the group more satisfied with their majors, with more healthy subjective health status, more satisfied with their interpersonal relationships, with a higher self-efficacy, with a lower fatigue, and with better communication skill. Clinical practice satisfaction had a significantly positive correlation with self-efficacy and communication skill and a significantly negative correlation with fatigue. Factors affecting clinical practice satisfaction in the subjects were communication skill, self-efficacy and fatigue. The total variance explained by all three variables was 20%. Conclusion: Further studies and development of education programs including a broad range of strategies for clinical training are warranted by reflecting those related variables to improve clinical practice satisfaction in dental hygiene students.

The collected data were analyzed using t-tests and analysis of variance in the SPSS/Win 230 program. The results were reported as real numbers, percentages, mean values, and standard deviations. The correlations between the variables were analyzed using the Pearson correlation coefficient. Results : Smartphone addiction according to the general characteristics of the study subjects showed significant differences in 'residence type' (F=2.91, p=.035) and 'average smartphone usage time' (F=20.15, p=.000). It seemed. self-efficacy was determined by 'age' (F=2.74, p=.045), 'subjective academic level' (F=7.71, p=.001), and 'average smartphone usage time' (F=3.96, p=.009) showed a significant difference. Communication skills showed a significant difference in 'average smartphone usage time' (F=3.83, p=.011). The correlation between the variables of the study subjects showed that self-efficacy was negatively correlated with smartphone addiction (r=-.42, p<.001), and communication ability was positively correlated with self-efficacy. It was found that (r=.55, p<.001). 15) Conclusion : On the basis of the study results, the higher the nursing students' smartphone addiction, the lower their self-efficacy, and the higher their communication ability, the higher their self-efficacy.
