Purpose:This study was conducted to investigate whether modified CIMT with Kinesio-Taping on paretic upper limb effects upper limb function in stroke patients in comparison to those receiving only modified CIMT. Methods:20 out-patients with hemiplegia were randomly assigned to either an experimental or a control group. Both groups received modified CIMT during a 10-week period. Additionally, an experimental group received modified CIMT with Kinesio-Taping on paretic upper limb and trunk. Results:In Manual function test, Grip strength, Jebsen-Taylor hand function test, MAL(Motor Activity Log) and Functional independence measure (FIM) were significantly different at all intervals of the study period(0, 3, 6, 10-week) in the experimental and control groups(p<.05). Exceptionally there was no significant difference in Jebsen-Taylor hand function test between the experimental and control groups. Conclusion:These results suggest that modified CIMT with Kinesio-taping improve the upper limb function. And also increase usage of affected upper limb and assist in daily living activity more than only modified CIMT.
Since isokinetic concise can give an evaluation of muscle strength with great accuracy and objectively, it is widely used as the one of the important methods for evaluation of muscle performance. The purpose of this investigation was to compare values uncorrected for gravity with values corrected for gravity and to determine the effect of making this correction on knee flexors and extensors at three speeds. This investigation measured values isokinetically at $60^{\circ}/sec,\;120^{\circ}/sec,\;and\;180^{\circ}/sec$ in 14 male and 17 fermale university students. The gravity effect torque(GET) is the torque resulting from the effect of gravity on the combined weight of the leg and dynamometer arm. The GET was added to the measured extensors peak torque and subtraced from the flexors peak torque to yield gravity corrected values. Failure to consider GET greatly underetimated extensors torque and overtestimated flexors torque. Physical therapists must remember the importance of making the gravity correction in patients with reduced torque output where the gravitational torque is a greater percentage of the measured torque to ascertain correctly the relative strength of antagonists inversely affected by gravity.

Objectives: Schizophrenia is a serious disease that influences not only the patients themselves but also their family and the society. In this case, we employed art therapy and Korean traditional medicine for treating a schizophrenia patient. Methods: The patient was diagnosed with schizophrenia, and the main complaints were hallucination, visual hallucination and catatonic behavior. We treated the patient with art therapy and Korean traditional medicine including acupuncture, moxa and herbal medicine. We used the Brief Psychiatric Rating Scale (BPRS) and the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS) for assessment. Results: After treatment, clinical symptoms were improved and the BPRS and PANSS scores were decreased, especially the scores for anxiety, depression and poor rapport. Conclusions: Combined treatment with art therapy and Korean traditional medicine can be effective for treating chronic schizophrenia.

Purpose : Complementary and alternative therapies(CAT) are defined as those treatments and healthcare practices not taught widely in medical schools, not generally used in hospitals, and not usually reimbursed by health care insurance. Recently, CAT have become increasingly popular with health care consumers and health care professionals. This study investigated nurses' perceptions and experiences with CAT. Method: 124 nurses who were working in university hospitals in Seoul and Inchon were randomly selected as participants for this study. They answered open and closed questionnaires on their Perceptions and experiences with CAT. Results: Most of the subjects recognized the existence of CAT (86.3%), and expected a treatment effect from CAT when it is combined with conventional therapy (84.7%). Nurses accepted CAT positively as complement for conventional therapy and useful modalities of psychological support when its effects have been proven scientifically. Forty nurses (32.3%) had learned CAT including soojichim, aroma therapy, relaxation, meditation, music therapy, massage, and acupressure. Eight nurses (6.5%) used CAT with patients including soojichim, hand massage, relaxation, and music therapy. Conclusion: In spite of the nurses' positive perceptions of CAT, the nurses' professional experiences were quite limited. Nurses need authorized training programs and continuing education opportunities in CAT. This would increase their ability to use CAT. But to improve scientific knowledge more evidence based research is.

This case report demonstrates the beneficial effects of cupping therapy (CT) in a 35-year-old man who is diagnosed with a fracture of the radial shaft due to a motorcycle accident. One year after the treatment started, pseudoarthrosis developed in the radius and an autogenous iliac bone graft was performed. However, extension dysfunction in the wrist became evident. After another 6 months of physical therapy and rehabilitation, no improvements were observed. Therefore, CT and adjunctive electrostimulation were performed, after 30 days of treatment, marked recovery of muscle function and full wrist extension were observed, as determined by electromyography and a grade 5/5 on the Medical Research Council power of wrist extension scale. The results in this case study suggest that CT in conjunction with adjunctive electrostimulation, may accelerate functional recovery from postoperative radial palsy, and provide a useful alternative treatment in this situation.
We report a 66-year-old woman with complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) 1 treated with combined medical and active physical therapy. She was diagnosed with CRPS 1 following partial shoulder prosthesis due to proximal humerus fracture. Despite continuous medication and physical therapy, there was no improvement in her pain and functional outcome. Her overall pain was decreased by stellate ganglion block 3 times in two weeks conducted during the second month of the follow-up period. Following the ganglion blockades, pain and the other symptoms were decreased intermittently but range of motion (ROM) and functional status were not satisfied as much as expected. After the third month of follow-up, her passive and active ROM of the shoulder joint was increased after application of manipulation under general anesthesia. In conclusion, because CRPS 1 remains one of the most difficult pain syndromes, early diagnosis and treatment are important to have adequate functional results from physical therapy. Manipulation under general anesthesia may be an additional effective treatment tool to obtain functional improvement in some patients diagnosed with CRPS 1.
The purpose of this study is to discuss and analyze the effect of blood glucose on treadmill exercise, functional food and their combined treatment protocol on diabetic rats. These group were divided treadmill exercise group(n:12), functional food feeding group(n:12), treadmill exercise with functional food feeding group(n:12) and control group. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. The blood glucose level was showed significantly different in several group, treadmill exercise with functional food feeding group are most significantly on other group. 2. The inhibitory rate of body weight was not significantly different on each group. 3. The amount of feeding was not significantly in several group. 4. The Islets size and Connective tissue proliferation was showed significantly different except control group, treadmill exercise with functional food feeding group are more significantly than other group. These results show that treadmill exercise with functional food feeding and their several protocols can retard the setreptozotocin-induced dibetic rat.
Locally advanced non-small cell lung cancer (LA-NSCLC) is composed of heterogeneous subgroups that require a multidisciplinary team approach in order to ensure optimal therapy for each patient. Since 2010, the National Comprehensive Cancer Network has recommended chemoradiation therapy (CRT) for bulky mediastinal disease and surgical combination for those patients with single-station N2 involvement who respond to neoadjuvant therapy. According to lung cancer tumor boards, thoracic surgeons make a decision on the resectability of the tumor, if it is determined to be unresectable, concurrent CRT (CCRT) is considered the next choice. However, the survival benefit of CCRT over sequential CRT or radiotherapy alone carries the risk of additional toxicity. Considering severe adverse events that may lead to death, fit patients who are able to tolerate CCRT must be identified by multidisciplinary tumor board. Decelerated approaches, such as sequential CRT or high-dose radiation alone may be a valuable alternative for patients who are not eligible for CCRT. As a new treatment strategy, investigators are interested in the application of the innovative radiation techniques, trimodality therapy combining surgery after high-dose definitive CCRT, and the combination of radiation with targeted or immunotherapy agents. The updated results and on-going studies are thoroughly reviewed in this article.
In a kenel of 62 dogs, 33 were diagnosed as infected dogs Brucella canis by serological test and blood cultures in a large kennel in Chonnam area. Twenty eight of 33 dogs were treated with combined antibiotics therapy consisting of tetracycline and dihydrostregtomycin. After the first treatment, all dogs became abacteremic and serologic titers declined. Abortion due to B canis infection could be prevented by antibiotic therapy during pregnancy. However, sequential antibiotics therapy for 4 weeks did not eradicate B canis from affected bitch. According to results of serological and blood culture tests, effect of antibiotics treatment respectively revealed that 17 of the originally infected dogs were cure with second therapy schedule at 2 months and 27 of that with 6 months after second therapy.

Purpose: Individuals affected by stroke present with changes in motor function, balance, and cognition. The purpose of this study was to the correlation between motor function, balance, and cognition in patients with stroke. Design: cross-sectional study design. Methods: 67 stroke patients in the experiment were included. For evaluation of motor function which is Manual Muscle Test, Range of Motion, Modified Ashworth Scale for spasticity, grasping power, and balance was measured using the Berg Balance Scale and Functional reach test. For evaluating Cognition which is Korean-Mini Mental State Examination. Results: The results of this study's motor function, balance, and cognition showed a significant positive correlation (p<0.05). Conclusion: The results indicated that motor function, balance, and cognition were significantly correlated with each other. Therefore, it is suggested that to improve the motor function and balance of patients with stoke, it needs to evaluate the cognition and the motor function, balance, and cognitive training should be combined.
