Although there are many commercially available training software programs for pharmacokinetics, they lack flexibility and convenience. In this study, we develop simulation software to facilitate pharmacokinetics education. General formulas for time courses of drug concentrations after single and multiple dosing were used to build source code that allows users to simulate situations tailored to their learning objectives. A mathematical relationship for a 1-compartment model was implemented in the form of differential equations. The concept of population pharmacokinetics was also taken into consideration for further applications. The source code was written using R. For the convenience of users, two types of software were developed: a web-based simulator and a standalone-type application. The application was built in the JAVA language. We used the JAVA/R Interface library and the 'eval()' method from JAVA for the R/JAVA interface. The final product has an input window that includes fields for parameter values, dosing regimen, and population pharmacokinetics options. When a simulation is performed, the resulting drug concentration time course is shown in the output window. The simulation results are obtained within 1 minute even if the population pharmacokinetics option is selected and many parameters are considered, and the user can therefore quickly learn a variety of situations. Such software is an excellent candidate for development as an open tool intended for wide use in Korea. Pharmacokinetics experts will be able to use this tool to teach various audiences, including undergraduates.

Objectives : Basic life support (BLS) is considered one of the essential clinical skills medical students should master. Nevertheless, neither the current state of education nor the educative effect of and attitudes toward BLS in Korean medical students have yet been reported. The aim of this study was to examine the educative effect of BLS training for Korean medical students in terms of attitudes, knowledge, and skills. Methods : Surveys concerning attitudes toward BLS and its education, and tests for knowledge and scheme performance were conducted with 85 students in a college of Korean medicine under training for American Heart Association (AHA) BLS course for healthcare providers. Results : Before training, 70.6% of students answered they felt the necessity to be trained in the BLS course. The levels of confidence to perform and self-presumed knowledge on BLS were low at first. After training, however, the level of confidence and knowledge increased significantly. In the final test, the mean scores of written test and scheme performance significantly decreased, while the level of confidence didn't. Most of the participants answered they wanted to be re-trained under regular re-education system. Conclusions : To evaluate the current state of BLS education and its educative effect in Korean medical schools, it's required to expand the target of research to larger number of colleges and students over the country.
Objectives : In this study, in order to provide basic data for more efficient and systematic clinical practice training by recognizing the need of effective and standardized operation of clinical practice accomplished in clinical fields belonging to the curriculum of dental hygiene department, grasping, investigating, and analyzing satisfaction degree of the clinical practice through student's frequency of observation practice and performance practice. Methods : A survey was conducted against 208 students in the 3rd grade of 4 dental hygiene departments located in Jeonbuk province. Results : As results, it was found that for the observation practice frequency according to clinical practice term by universities, the basic clinical practice was higher in A, B, and D university and that the correction and practice was higher in D university. For the performance practice frequency, it was found that basic care practice was higher in B and D university, oral medicine practice, preventive dentistry practice, and periodontal practice were higher in A and C university, pediatric dentistry practice was higher in B and C university, prosthetic dentistry practice was higher in A, B, and C university, and oral surgery practice was higher in B university. It was identified that satisfaction was higher in the basic care practice, the preventive dentistry practice, and the periodontal practice in the range of clinical practice, and the A and C university receiving higher score in the performance practice frequency got higher score in the oral medicine practice, the preventive dentistry practice, and the periodontal practice. Conclusions : As the basic care practice items in the clinical practice area which got relatively higher score in observation practice, performance practice, and satisfaction degree of the dental hygiene trainee are basic and essential works that they will perform the most frequently, it is considered that integrated clinical practice training including the intramural practice course is required.
This study was carried out to provide information on the effect of nutrition education program for diabetic patients at the Guri City's Public Health Center. Subjects of this study were 31 persons(male 7, female 24) who attended all courses of "2002 Diabetes Education Class". They were indicated as the 'education group'(EG). Eating and living habits of EG were investigated before the education. EG's weight and blood glucose (post prandial 2 hours, PP2) were examined as well. EG's PP2 reduction was compared with a 'control group'(CG) who didn't join any course in that class. All of the subjects were non-insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM) patients. EG's average age was 62.4$\pm$8.8. Before taking the course, EG's PP2 was 251.5$\pm$29.6mg/dl, and body mass index(BMI) was 26.3$\pm$2.3 on average. Most of them were stressed out from their daily lives and usually had no exercise. Most people of EG ate meals rapidly and liked sweet and fatty foods. After the course of training, EG's weight and BMI before the training were not decreased significantly. However, all of the EG's PP2s, which were measured 4 times(before the meal at the special lunch session, after 2 hours at this meal, after 2 weeks and 4 weeks dietary assembly), were decreased in comparison with the PP2 which was checked prior to joining the training. EG's average PP2 was more reduced than CG's one. In addition, all groups' PP2s were decreased for 8 weeks. After all, this nutritional education at the public health center was effective in glycemic control for diabetes mellitus patients. Especially, when the dietary assembly as practical training was included in the educational process, the patient's dietary intake and PP2 was improved more effectively. Therefore, this study suggests that nutrition work at public health centers is necessary for the Health Promotion Policy.

Background: Ginseng has been used as an ergogenic agent, although evidence for its effectiveness is weak. A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial was conducted to evaluate the effect of a ginsenoside complex (UG0712) on changes in exercise performance. Methods: Sedentary individuals (n = 117) were randomly assigned into one of three groups: low-dose ginsenoside supplementation (100 mg/d, n = 39), high-dose ginsenoside supplementation (500 mg/d, n = 39), or a placebo group (500 mg/d, n = 39). All participants underwent a supervised 12-wk aerobic and resistance exercise training course. To assess the effects of supplementation on physical performance, maximal oxygen consumption ($VO_2max$), anaerobic threshold (AT), lactic acid, and muscle strength of the dominant knee were measured at baseline, every visit, and after the training program. Results: Both ginsenoside groups showed significant increases in $VO_2max$ and muscular strength during exercise training. There were no definite changes in AT and lactic acid levels over time. After exercise training, there were definite differences in the $VO_2max$ (28.64.9 to $33.7{\pm}4.9ml/kg/min$ in high-dose group vs. $30.4{\pm}6.7$ to $32.8{\pm}6.6ml/kg/min$ in placebo, p = 0.029) and AT ($19.3{\pm}4.2$ to $20.9{\pm}3.5ml/kg/min$ in high-dose group vs. $20.0{\pm}5.1$ to $20.0{\pm}4.9ml/kg/min$ in placebo, p = 0.038) between the high-dose ginsenoside and placebo groups. However, there was no difference in $VO_2max$ between the low-dose ginsenoside and placebo groups (p = 0.254). There were no differences in muscular strength during exercise training among the three groups. Conclusion: High-dose ginsenoside supplementation (UG0712) augmented the improvement of aerobic capacity by exercise training.
The study was done to improve the job training course for Community Health Practioners (CHPs) by evaluating the level of help that the training provided to the CHPs in carrying out their work and to analyze the management activities of the CHPs in order to develop a more effective CHP training program. The methodologies used in the study were a questionnaire survey. The survey results were analyzed using SPSS Windows. The study results are as follows. 1. The total average level of help from the job training(Theory. Practice and Field Practice) for carrying out the CHP work was found to be $3.04\pm.53$ (of a possible 4), which indicates a high level of help. The average for clinical practices was $3.16\pm.60$. for theory. $3.11\pm.40$ and for field practice. $2.84\pm.60$. 2. For the theory content of the job training courses. the help level was low in the area of mother and child health management/family planning with an average of $2.65\pm.62$ and in the area of health information system development with an average of $2.62\pm.83$. The reason for these deficiencies were. in order of frequency. few opportunities to apply learning. training content that was inadequate. training methodologies which were incongruent with content. improper training items and insufficient class hours. For the practice. the clinical work in rehabilitation/orthopedics departments and in ENT/Opthalmology departments had averages of $2.96\pm.86$ and $2.97\pm.80$ respectively. This low level resulted from the lack of direct experience. lack of sincerity during the practice time. lack of practice guidance. insufficient time and lack of practice equipment. in that order. For the field practice. the delivery management averaged $2.06\pm.90$ as the lowest help level. In this case 68% of respondents replied that there were no relevant reasons for this deficiency. 21% responsed that there was a lack of direct experience, 7%, a lack of practice guidance and 4.8%, insufficient time. 3. There were significant differences for several demographic variables when comparing the help level of the clinical courses (practice and Field Practice). A higher help level was reported by older nurses as compared to younger ones, experienced nurses as compared to scholarship nurses, and married over single. Also for nurses who had finished more other programs and were qualified or licensed in several areas the level was high. Although it was not statistically significant the level was higher if the work area was in a rural county, not a city, and if one had more recently completed the job training(P<,05). 4. Of the respondents 58.6% replies stated the period of job training for the CHP was adequate, but 51.7% reported that the period for theory courses was too short while an other 48.3% responded that it was sufficient. For practice locations, 50% responsed that it was good to practice in medical institutions(primary, secondary and tertiary) at the same time. While 48.3% agreed that doing theory and practice simultaneously was good, and 56.9% agreed that field practice should be done after completing theory and practice training. Hence, the development of new field practice guidelines suitable for changing environments of health management are required in place of the existing ones which were considered low in help level to the practical work of the CHPs.
This case study is on the course of therapy with a client named E with Chromosome 15q Duplications Syndrome during the therapist's level 1 training, which offers a certification of Nordoff-Robbins Music Therapist(NRMT), at the Nordoff-Robbins Music therapy Center at New York University. This study gives an overview of the clinical process with E as well as the Nordoff-Robbins approach. Yet it is also focused on the therapist's personal and clinical experience and growth throughout the course of therapy. It shows how the therapist experienced various challenging situations and obstacles in the clinical process. There were consistent and diverse trials and mistakes. Throughout the process, therapist could learn more deeply about E's physical, psychological and emotional needsand have new perspectives on how to be a music therapist. The therapist applied 'Qualities of Clinical-Musical Interaction', one of the concepts in Nordoff-Robbins Music therapy, to organize the work with E.
The purpose of this study is to share and assess the experiences of the emergency remote teaching method adopted for the medical communication course at a medical school due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The standardized patients hired for this 'Emergency Remote Teaching (hereafter ERT)' course said that students' interactions with them were less enthusiastic and less realistic, However, in the one-on-one virtual practice, the students seemed to be more focused than in the existing face to face practice. There were no differences in the unit practice test scores between ERT and the face-to-face course while in the face-to-face final exam, the test scores of FTF students were statistically higher than those of the ERT students, which might have resulted from the different methodologies of teaching. Further research on the virtual medical communication course is necessary to prepare medical students for the adoption of the telemedicine which could be accelerated in the near future.
