Thoracic kyphosis is occasionally used to describe someone with accentuated thoracic curvature, hyperkyphosis is preferred since kyphosis itself refers to the normal sagittal angle of thoracic curvature. The angle of thoracic kyphosis tends to increase with age resulting in hyperkyphosis in some individuals. The persons who suffer from hyperkyphosis are at increased risk for a variety of adverse health outcomes that include musculoskeletal alteration, physical functional limitations, poor quality of life, falls, and even earlier mortality. Hyperkyphosis may develop from vertebral fractures, degenerative disc disease, either muscle weakness, decreased mobility and sensory deficits. The gold-standard orthopaedic technique for assessment of thoracic kyphosis is standing lateral spine radiographs. Other clinical measures are Debrunner kyphometer, inclinometer, flexicurve ruler, arcometer, flexible electrogoniometer and spinal mouse.
Background: The purpose of this clinical case report is to confirm sacroiliac joint misalignment effects on the gait. Methods: A healthy women volunteered to participate in this case report. Implantable biotelemetry systems are indispensable tools not only in animal research but also in clinical medicine as such systems enable the acquisition of otherwise unavailable physiological data. We present the manufacture of CMOS IC and its system for implantable multichannel biotelemeter system. The internal circuits of this system are designed not only to achieve as multiple functions and low power dissipation as possible but also to enable continuous measurement of physiological data. Its main functions are to enable continuous measurement of physiological data and to accomplish on-off power swiching of an implantable battery by receiving appropriate commanc signals from an external circuit. The implantable circuits of this system are designed and fabricated on a single silicon chip using $1.5\mu$m n-well CMOS process technology. The total power dissipation of implantable circuits for a continuous operation was 6.7mW and for a stand-by operation was 15.2$\mu$ W. This system used together with approriate sensors is expected to contribute to clinical medicine telemetry system of measuring and wireless transmitting such significant physiological parameters as pressure pH and temperature.
Nowadays, there has been an increasing interest in the preservation of natural dentition and the proper occlusion related to tooth wear for quality of life. Tooth wear means the loss of tooth enamel structure. This is happened by many causes which is the combined effects of many mechanisms. For keeping proper occlusion, dentists should check tooth wear status with acceptable methods and tools for the proper diagnosis. Until now, there have been many traditional qualitative ways to measure tooth wear which are intuitive, rapid, and simple. On the contrast, they are not objective nor reproducible. With the development of related technique, new quantitative methods using CAD and 3d scanners. This article aimed to introduce qualitative and quantitative methods for tooth wear measurements.
Purpose: The purpose of this paper (a literature review study) was to confirm the trend of nursing research for head and neck cancer patients in Korea. Methods: Research databases were reviewed and analyzed from 13 papers (2004 through 2019 using KISS, NDSL, RISS, DBpia, and the National Assembly Library. As a result of this paper, we found that there were many studies that used questionnaires. Results: Measurement variables related to head and neck cancer patients were physical variables related to oral condition, psychological variables related to depression and anxiety, social support, family support related to family, and quality of life as a result variable. Conclusion: Therefore, integrated nursing intervention strategies and clinical nursing research considering the physical, psychological, social, and family aspects of head and neck cancer patients are needed. Based on the results of this study, we propose qualitative research on head and neck cancer patients, development of educational programs, intervention studies to verify effects, and development of clinical practice guidelines.
Purpose: This study was a methodological research implemented to establish basic data for controlling the job rotation stress of nurses and effectively managing human resources by reflecting the Nurse Job Rotation Stress Scale (NJRS) developed by Huang and others into the domestic nursing environment and verifying the use of measurement tools. Methods: The study selected nurses working at four hospitals, with over 300 beds, in Seoul, Gyeongi-do, and Busan, as its research subjects and verified the content validity, construct validity, concurrent validity, and internal consistency reliability of the measurement tool. Results: The results ultimately formed eight questions from three sub-factors (3 emotional response questions, 2 daily life questions, and 3 communication questions). In terms of reliability, emotional response issued a Cronbach's of .78, daily life issued a Cronbach's of .75, and communication issued a Cronbach's of .86. Conclusion: This study is expected to be used as basic data for achieving effective human resource management by calculating the stress of clinical nurses resulting from job rotation, but the researcher believes that the measurement tools must be expanded by confirming additional job rotation stress questions which reflect the organizational culture of Korea.
An index was developed that estimates cardiovascular health degree with easily available physiological information such as survey and noninvasive measurement. The survey score was calculated by utilizing questions related to personal disease history, self-feeling, and management state. The measurement score was calculated using physiological parameters such as blood pressure, accelerated plethysmograph(APG), and heart rate variability(HRV), and augmentation index(AI). In order to evaluate effectiveness of the cardiovascular index and modify weighting factors used in each item, a clinical trial was done in a general hospital. The cardiovascular index showed a clear correlation of 0.685 with the doctor's score on the cardiovascular health degree. The correlation between the self-estimated score and doctor's score was as low as 0.217. The large gap between these two scores demonstrated necessity of more objective tools like the cardiovascular index. The cardiovascular score showed a significant difference between normal persons and patients suffering hypertension or diabetes. (p=0.000).
Meridian which used as the basic theory of acupuncture treatment, is an important functional connection system of acupuncture point in oriental medicine. Yangdorak and EAV have lack of precision because of using 2-electrode method, occurring high non-uniformed current density and electrode contact status on electrode placement spot. Therefore we implemented a meridian impedance measurement system for measuring meridian impedance using 4-electrode method. In order to confirm the precision of developed system, we made an constant current characteristic experiment using standard resistor. As a results of clinical study with 18 subjects, the meridian impedance showed that reproductivity and repeatability of HT7 acupuncture point are $0.515[k{\Omega}]{\pm}0.000$(mean${\pm}$standard deviation) and $0.515[k{\Omega}]{\pm}0.002$, respectively. And reproductivity and repeatability of PC7 are $0.521[k{\Omega}]{\pm}0.000$ and $0.521[{\Omega}]{\pm}0.001$ respectively. The proposed system was stable and reliable. Therefore this study proved AC impedance method to valid in measuring meridian impedance, and also verified precision and repeatability of the proposed meridian impedance measurement system. The proposed system will serve as more effective method of measuring meridian phenomena as a bioelectric signal in clinical practice.
Purpose. This study was to investigate the degree of refractive error that occurs depending on the measurement location of the subject when performing a refraction test using the automatic refractor. Methods. When performing the auto-refraction test, measurements were taken while increasing the distance between the forehead and the forehead rest, and the measurements were made by tilting the head clockwise and counterclockwise. Results. During the auto-refraction test, significant refractive error occurred when the forehead was not attached to the forehead support or the subject's head was turned clockwise or counterclockwise. Conclusions. When performing a refraction test using an automatic refractor, the examiner will have to pay attention to whether the subject's forehead is in close contact with the forehead rest, and whether the head is tilted.
Human biosignals provide essential information for diagnosing diseases such as dementia and Parkinson's disease. Owing to the shortcomings of current clinical assessments, noninvasive solutions are required. Machine learning (ML) on wearable sensor data is a promising method for the real-time monitoring and early detection of abnormalities. ML facilitates disease identification, severity measurement, and remote rehabilitation by providing continuous feedback. In the context of wearable sensor technology, ML involves training on observed data for tasks such as classification and regression with applications in clinical metrics. Although supervised ML presents challenges in clinical settings, unsupervised learning, which focuses on tasks such as cluster identification and anomaly detection, has emerged as a useful alternative. This review examines and discusses a variety of ML algorithms such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forests (RF), Decision Trees (DT), Neural Networks (NN), and Deep Learning for the analysis of complex clinical data.
