  • Buck converter must operate at fairly high switching frequency for miniaturizing a whole circuit and achieving a fast response. However, at the conditions of low output voltage, high output current, and high switching frequency, the influence of parasitic elements to circuit operation will become extremely obvious. In this paper, it has been shown that these parasitic elements of output capacitor link the ripple of the output voltage. The MCP capacitors and aluminum electrolytic capacitors are applied to the buck converter and observed characteristics and the experimental results were reported.

  • In this paper, the authors propose a so-called new soft switching circuit topology. The resonant circuit in new converter implements zero-current and zen-voltage for power switches without increasing voltage/current stresses. The proposed converter are deemed most suitable for high-power applications where the power switching devices are used. Some simulative results on computer are included to confirm the validity of the analytical results.

  • This paper discusses Gate-driver circuit for improved switching characteristics. This resonant gate-driver recycles the energy stored in the gate capacitance to reduce the turn-off switching loss associated with a conventional gate-driver. Reducing the loss reduces the power consumption and hence the subsequent power dissipation in the resonant gate-driver. The design considerations of implementing a practical MOSFET gate-driver using this topology are discussed.

  • In this paper, we proposed the electric circuit using one common arm of H-Bridge inverters to reduce the number of switching component in multi-level inverter combined with H-Bridge Inverters and Transformers. and furthermore we suggested the new multi-level PWM inverter using PWM level to reduce THD(Total Harmonic Distortion) and we used the switching method that can be same rate of usage at each transformer. Also, we tested the proposed prototype 15-level inverter to clarify the proposed electric circuit and reasonableness of control signal for the proposed multi-level PWM inverter.

  • This paper studies a new three-level pulse-width modulation (PWM) resonant converter for high input voltage and high load current applications. In order to use high frequency power MOSFETs for high input voltage applications, a three-level DC converter with two clamped diodes and a flying capacitor is adopted in the proposed circuit. For high load current applications, the secondary sides of the proposed converter are connected in parallel to reduce the size of the magnetic core and copper windings and to decrease the current rating of the rectifier diodes. In order to share the load current and reduce the switch counts, three resonant converters with the same active switches are adopted in the proposed circuit. Two transformers with a series connection in the primary side and a parallel connection in the secondary side are adopted in each converter to balance the secondary side currents. To overcome the drawback of a wide range of switching frequencies in conventional series resonant converters, the duty cycle control is adopted in the proposed circuit to achieve zero current switching (ZCS) turn-off for the rectifier diodes and zero voltage switching (ZVS) turn-on for the active switches. Finally, experimental results are provided to verify the effectiveness of the proposed converter.

  • 본 논문에서는 single-stage, two-stage 두가지 역률보상(PFC)기법을 기존의 능동 클램프 플라이백 컨버터에 적용하여 역률개선을 하였다. 삽입된 플라이백 컨버터의 능동클램프회로가 주스위치와 보조스위치의 영전압스위칭(ZVS)을 구현하며, 스위칭 손실을 줄임으로써 고효율을 얻을 수 있고, 높은 주파수에서의 스위칭이 가능하다. 하지만 일반적으로 사용되는 다이오드정류기, 평활용커패시터에 의한 낮은 역률의 문제점이 남아있다. 본 논문에서는 300[W급] 능동 클램프 ZVS 플라이백 컨버터를 설계하여 single-stage two-stage방식을 적용, 입력역률개선을 시뮬레이션과 실험에 의해 입증하고자 한다.

  • 이 논문에서는 Planar transformer를 적용한 30W급 포워드 컨버터에 대한 설계와 실험결과를 소개한다. 컨버터의 전체적인 크기와 체적은 일반적인 권선형 변압기 대신 Planar transformer를 적용함으로써 감소하였고 크기와 체적의 감소로 포워드 컨버터의 전력밀도가 증가하였다. 또한, Single Switch 포워드 컨버터 와 Active Clamp ZVS 포워드 컨버터를 비교연구 하였다.

Analysis of Voltage Stress in Stator Windings of IGBT PWM Inverter-Fed Induction Motor Systems

  • The high rate of voltage rise (dv/dt) in motor terminals caused by high-frequency switching and impedance mismatches between inverter and motor are known as the primary causes of irregular voltage distributions and insulation breakdowns on stator windings in IGBT PWM inverter-driven induction motors. In this paper, voltage distributions in the stator windings of an induction motor driven by an IGBT PWM inverter are studied. To analyze the irregular voltages of stator windings, high frequency parameters are derived from the finite element (FE) analysis of stator slots. An equivalent circuit composed of distributed capacitances, inductance, and resistance is derived from these parameters. This equivalent circuit is then used for simulation in order to predict the voltage distributions among the turns and coils. The effects of various rising times in motor terminal voltages and cable lengths on the stator voltage distribution are also presented. For a comparison with simulations, an induction motor with taps in the stator turns was made and driven by a variable-rising time switching surge generator. The test results are shown.

Wide Band Gap 소자를 적용한 철도차량용 보조전원장치에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Auxiliary Power Supply for the Railway Vehicle by Using Wide Band Gap Device)

  • In this paper, an auxiliary power supply (APS) for railroad cars is proposed. The APS can reduce the number of devices required to supply power through structural modification and operates at a high switching frequency by application of a SiC device. The voltage stress on the device in the proposed circuit can be reduced to less than half of the input voltage of the system; thus, a device with low breakdown voltage can be designed. By adapting a SiC device instead of an IGBT device, the proposed circuit can reduce switching and conduction losses and operate at a high switching frequency, thereby reducing output voltage and inductor current ripples in the proposed circuit. The theoretical analysis results of the proposed APS are verified with a 40 kW computer-based simulation and a 2 kW experiment.

Design Criteria of the Auxiliary Resonant Snubber Inverter Using a Load-Side Circuit for Electric Propulsion Drives

  • The Design criteria of the auxiliary resonant snubber inverter (ARSI) using a load-side circuit are discussed in relation to electric propulsion drives. In this regard, this paper attempts to develop a set of design criteria for the ARSI. First, the switching characteristics of IGBTs under soft-switching mainly in terms of dv/dt/, di/dt and switching losses are discussed and utilized for optimizing the selection of the resonant components in the system. After that, the proper control strategies of ARSIs are analyzed and simulated based on voltage space vector modulations. Later, the design, control and implementation of the auxiliary resonant circuit suitable for industrial products are analyzed and presented. And finally, other factors including power stage layout, packaging and the choice of current sensors are included. The detailed simulation and experimental results will be included based on a laboratory prototype. The proposed design criteria of the ARSI would help the implementation of an electric propulsion drive system.
