In this study the solubility of cholesterol was examined with ginseng saponin and chemical saponin used in the preparation of reaction mixture of 0.15M NaCl solution. It was shown that the solubility of cholesterol varied in the concentration of ginseng saponins and in the temperature and that the osmotic pressure and the surface tension was amenable to changes in the concentration of ginseng saponins and the incubation period of the reaction mixture. From the results, it was revealed that the solubility of cholesterol was dependent upon the incubated times and the concentration of ginseng saponins in 0.15mM NaCl solution and that ginseng saponins have the cholesterol solubilizing effect as evidenced in the physicochemical properties of mixed micelle formation and surface-activity.

This study was carried out to investigate the solubility of the bilestone in the solutions of the traditional oriental medicine prescriptions. The cholesterol and the calcium carbonate($CaCO_3$) were chosen as the ingredients of the bilestone. Three prescriptions were studied for the bilestone. The cholesterol had showed under 5% solubility in all solutions of the traditional oriental medicine prescriptions, but the calcium carbonate had showed the 30-50% solubility in all solutions of the traditional oriental medicine prescriptions.

This study was carried out to investigate the solubility of the ingredients of the bilestone in the solution of the traditional oriental medicines. The cholesterol and the calcium carbonate(CaCO₃) were chosen as the ingredients of the bilestone. Coicis Semen, Polygonum aviculare L, Maydis Stigmata, Allium tuberosum Rottler, and Raphanus sativa var. hortensis for. acanthiformis Makino were studied as the oriental medicines for the bilestone. The cholesterol had showed no solubility in all solutions of the traditional oriental medicines, but the calcium carbonate had showed the good solubility in all solutions of the traditional oriental medicines except Coicis Semen.

Investigations were performed on the effects of extraction temperature, pressure, time on solubility and selectivity of egg yolk lipid and cholesterol, and color and fatty acid composition of the residue in supercritical carbon dioxide(SC-Co$_2$) extraction. Lipid and cholesterol solubility increased as the increase of Co$_2$ density and was found to strongly depend on the extraction pressure rather than the extraction temperature. The relative concentration of cholesterol in the extract increased with an increase in temperature and decreased with an increase in pressure and extraction time. extraction of dried eg yolk for 3hr at 4$0^{\circ}C$/276 bar removed 46.1% of cholesterol from the residual egg yolk with a yield of 63.2%. SC-Co$_2$ extraction produced a lighter color egg yolk with less redness and yellowness. As the extraction time increased, the resultant residual egg yolk became more saturated with fatty acids. SC-$CO_2$ extraction offers a safe, natural method for removing cholesterol from dried egg yolk.
Fenofibrate has been used for many years to lower cholesterol levels and its pharmacokinetic profile is well understood. However, due to its low solubility in water, it has low bioavailability after oral administration. In order to improve the dissolution rate, fenofibrate was formulated into a self-microemulsifying drug delivery systems (SMEDDS). We used pseudo-ternary phase diagrams to evaluate the area of microemulsification, and an in vitro dissolution test was used to investigate the dissolution rate of fenofibrate. The optimized formulation for in vitro dissolution assessment consisted of Lauroglycol FCC (60%), Solutol HS 15 (27%), and Transcutol-P (13%). The mean droplet size of the oil phase in the microemulsion formed from the SMEDDS was about 130 nm. The dissolution rate of fenofibrate from SMEDDS was significantly higher than that of the reference tablet. Our studies suggested that the fenofibrate containing SMEDDS composition can effectively increase the solubility and oral bioavailability of poorly water-soluble drugs.
This study was conducted to obtain a good probiotic strain of L. acidophilus from infant feces which have the acid and bile tolerance. The selection criteria for the strain included antimicrobial activity, serum cholesterol reduction, resistance to the hydrogen peroxide, angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibition activity and iron solubility. To this end, five probiotic Lactobacillus strains have been isolated from infant feces. Especially, L. acidophilus SD 105 had strong antimicrobial activity against Listeria sp., high deconjugation activity in the medium which contained 0.5% of glycocholate (GCA) and high resistance to the hydrogen peroxide. L. acidophilus SD 102 showed the highest ACE inhibition activity among the tested cultures and L. acidophilus SD 103 showed iron solubility of more than 70%.

Performance of a continuous cocurrent supercritical fluid extraction column for processing of anhydrous milk fat (AMF) was determined. The extract loading increased and the extraction yield decreased as the superficial velocity of AMF increased. The maximum solubility of AMF in $CO_2$ at 4$0^{\circ}C$/3,500 psig was 0.0195g/g. The increase of the carbon dioxide density enhanced the solubility of milk fat and decreased the cholesterol concentration in the extract. Three operation conditions, such as recycle , reflux, and temperature gradient of extraction column, were tested. More short-chain fatty acvids were extracted by the reflux operation . Longchain fatty acids and thehighest ratio fo long-chain unsaturated to saturated fatty acids were also obtained in the raffinate phase with refluex.

In the experiment of cholesterols and steroidal compounds. gas chromatography has been widely used to determine the compounds. Without the facility, we could determine the amount of 17-ketosteroids in the use of t. 1. c technique. In the muicrobial conversion of cholesterol to 17-ketsoteroids, $\alpha,$$\alpha'-dipyridyl$ which might be a inhibitor of $9\alpha-hydroxylase$ of steroid skeleton was added to microbial culture broth. The inhibitor contaminated due to its solubility in organic solvents and hindered the determination of 17-ketost eroids on t.1. c in all the process of the experiment. we successfully determined the 17-ketosteroids by the use of Ag$^{+}$ band on t. 1. c. plate.e.
Soybean phytosterols have been known to have the effect of reducing the amount of cholesterol in blood. We isolated and analyzed soybean phytosterols from soybean scum. The functional mayonnaise was prepared by the addition of the different amounts of soybean phytosterols. To determine the desirable level of soybean phytosterols in mayonnaise, solubility, viscosity, the stability of emulsion and the sensory evaluation were measured. The most desirable level of soybean phytosterols was 0.5% in solubility, viscosity, stability of emulsion and the sensory evaluation.
Itraconazole is a triazole antifungal agent to inhibit most fungal pathogens. However, it is difficult for itraconazloe to be delivered by topical system due to its poor aqueous solubility. First, niosomes containing drug were prepared with span 60, cholesterol. tocopherol and poloxamer 407 as vesicle forming agents in an effort to increase solubility of itraconazole. And then prepared niosomes were dispersed in O/W creams (containing xanthan gum, glycerin, vaseline, glyceryl monostearate and $Cerix^{\circledR}-5$) or gels (containing xanthan gum and poloxamer 407). Both creams and gels were evaluated with respect to their rheological properties, in vitro permeation through excised skin of hairless mouse. Creams or gels containing niosome showed pseudoplastic flow and hysteresis loop. For both creams and gels, viscosity was increased with increasing the content of glycerine or vaseline and the content of gel forming polymer, respectively. In creams, the permeability of drug to skin was decreased with increasing the viscosity of cream. The permeability of drug was affected by pH as well as viscosity of gel. In vitro permeation test results demonstrated that cream formulations showed better permeability than gels. In conclusion, these results suggest that creams formulation containing niosome can be useful for the topical delivery of intraconazole.
