  • Bacillus subtilis JW-1 was isolated from rhizosphere soil as a potential biocontrol agent of bacterial wilt caused by Ralstonia solanacearum. Seed treatment followed by a soil drench application with this strain resulted in >80% reduction in bacterial wilt disease compared with that in the untreated control under greenhouse conditions. The antibacterial compound produced by strain JW-1 was purified by bioactivity-guided fractionation. Based on mass spectroscopy and nuclear magnetic resonance spectral data ($^1H$, $^{13}C$, $^1H-^1H$ correlation spectroscopies, rotating frame nuclear Overhauser effect spectroscopy, and heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation spectroscopy), the structure of this compound was elucidated as a cyclic lipopeptide composed of a heptapeptide (Gln-Leu-Leu-Val-Asp-Leu-Leu) bonded to a ${\beta}$-hydroxy-iso-hexadecanoic acid arranged in a lactone ring system.

  • In this work, alkyl methacrylate-based microgels were synthesized by an experimental design method, and their sebum absorption characteristics were investigated. The results of fractional factorial experimentation indicated that the cross-linking agent content, solvent content, and stirring speed were the main parameters in the synthesis of the microgels. The suitable synthesis conditions were determined by the response surface design method. Through a study of the monomer and solvent effects, it was confirmed that the microgel shows the highest sebum absorption ratio when t-butyl methacrylate is used as a monomer or when acetone is used as a solvent. The optimal microgel synthesis conditions for cosmetic application were determined, and the resulting microgel had a mean particle size of 4.7 μm and a sebum absorption ratio of 435%.

  • In this study, wasted stone powders (WSP) obtained from sludge and Wasted Tire Chips (WTC) as fillers have been used to formulate polymer hybrid composites based on Unsaturated Polyester (UPE) resin. To further enhance not only the interfacial bond between the inorganic filler and the polymer matrix, but also the filler dispersion by wetting the particulate surfaces to uniformly spread the resin during the mixing, silane coupling agent[${\gamma}$-methacryloxy propyl trimethoxy silane (${\gamma}$-MPS)] was used. The influences of organic recycled fillers contents and the concentrations of coupling agent in polymer hybrid composite formulations have been investigated from a mechanical and microstructural point o view through Mercury Porosimeter and SEM.

  • The curing characteristics of naphthalene type epoxy resin systems according to the change of curing agent were investigated to develop a new next-generation EMC(Epoxy Molding Compound) with excellent warpage characteristics, low thermal expansion, and excellent fluidity for WLP(Wafer Level Package). As epoxy resins, DGEBA, which are representative bisphenol type epoxy resins, NE-16, which are the base resins of naphthalene type epoxy resins, and NET-OH, NET-MA, and NET-Epoxy resins newly synthesized based on NE-16 were used. As a curing agent, DDM (Diamino Diphenyl Methane) and CBN resin with naphthalene moiety were used. The curing reaction characteristics of these epoxy resin systems with curing agents were analyzed through thermal analysis experiments. In terms of curing reaction mechanism, DGEBA and NET-OH resin systems follow the nth curing reaction mechanism, and NE-16, NET-MA and NET-Epoxy resin systems follow the autocatalytic curing reaction mechanism in the case of epoxy resin systems using DDM as curing agent. On the other hand, it was found that all of them showed the nth curing reaction mechanism in the case of epoxy resin systems using CBN as the curing agent. Comparing the curing reaction rate, the epoxy resin systems using CBN as the curing agent showed a faster curing reaction rate than them with DDM as a hardener in the case of DGEBA and NET-OH epoxy resin systems following the same nth curing reaction mechanism, and the epoxy resin systems with a different curing mechanism using CBN as a curing agent showed a faster curing reaction rate than DDM hardener systems except for the NE-16 epoxy resin system. These reasons were comparatively explained using the reaction rate parameters obtained through thermal analysis experiments. Based on these results, low thermal expansion, warpage reduction, and curing reaction rate in the epoxy resin systems can be improved by using CBN curing agent with a naphthalene moiety.

  • Concrete is cheap, easy to deal with, and the quality is satisfactory. Also, it is one of the easiest materials to get because chemical composition of cement is similar to chemical composition of surface. On the other hand, it is so vulnerable to transform because of weak binding capacity and low binding energy that it produces cracks. Cracks decline durability, usability, safety of structures and damage exterior. In order to decline drying shrinkage crack, this study used shrinkage reducing typed Superplasticizer, which is combination of and water-reducing agent for convenience, different with existing study using AE agent, water-reducing agent, shrinkage reducing agent,. Considering SRS field application possibility, this study planned to mix concrete and mortar generally used in ready-mixed concrete company and did basic experiment depending on a change of SRS content ratio and admixture. Based on the experiment result. It is judged that SRS admixture 2% is proper ratio when Given the intensity and length change. Also mass combination will conduct follow-up studies.

  • Objectives: This study evaluated the effects of a bleaching agent on the composition, mechanical properties, and surface topography of 6 conventional glass-ionomer cements (GICs) and one resin-modified GIC. Materials and Methods: For 3 days, the specimens were subjected to three 20-minute applications of a 37% $H_2O_2$-based bleaching agent and evaluated for water uptake (WTK), weight loss (WL), compressive strength (CS), and Knoop hardness number (KHN). Changes in surface topography and chemical element distribution were also analyzed by energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy. For statistical evaluation, the Kruskal-Wallis and Wilcoxon paired tests (${\alpha}=0.05$) were used to evaluate WTK and WL. CS specimens were subjected to 2-way analysis of variance (ANOVA) and the Tukey post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$), and KH was evaluated by one-way ANOVA, the Holm-Sidak post hoc test (${\alpha}=0.05$), and the t-test for independent samples (${\alpha}=0.05$). Results: The bleaching agent increased the WTK of Maxxion R, but did not affect the WL of any GICs. It had various effects on the CS, KHN, surface topography, and the chemical element distribution of the GICs. Conclusions: The bleaching agent with 37% $H_2O_2$ affected the mechanical and surface properties of GICs. The extent of the changes seemed to be dependent on exposure time and cement composition.

  • Interpenetrating polymer networks(IPNs) were prepared from castor oil-type polyurethanes(PUs) and epoxy resin. Two types of PU were prepared by using polypropylene ether glycol(PPG) as a chain extending agent and caster oil(CO) as a crosslinking agent. COPU/epoxy simultaneous interpenetrating polymer networks(SINs) based on CO had a better compatibility over the all composition than PPGPU/epoxy SINs based on PPG. The flexural strength of all PPGPU/epoxy SINs was decreased with decreasing entanglement of networks. COPU/epoxy SINs showed the higher fracture toughness and mechanial properties than the PPGPU/epoxy SINs. Fracture surfaces of all of the SINs showed the localized shear deformation and crack deflection rather than generation of stress whitening associated with the cavitation.

  • This study aims to investigate the impacts of chemical cleaning on the performance of a reverse osmosis membrane. Chemicals used for simulating membrane cleaning include a surfactant (sodium dodecyl sulfate, SDS), a chelating agent (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid, EDTA), and two proprietary cleaning formulations namely MC3 and MC11. The impact of sequential exposure to multiple membrane cleaning solutions was also examined. Water permeability and the rejection of boron and sodium were investigated under various water fluxes, temperatures and feedwater pH. Changes in the membrane performance were systematically explained based on the changes in the charge density, hydrophobicity and chemical structure of the membrane surface. The experimental results show that membrane cleaning can significantly alter the hydrophobicity and water permeability of the membrane; however, its impacts on the rejections of boron and sodium are marginal. Although the presence of surfactant or chelating agent may cause decreases in the rejection, solution pH is the key factor responsible for the loss of membrane separation and changes in the surface properties. The impact of solution pH on the water permeability can be reversed by applying a subsequent cleaning with the opposite pH condition. Nevertheless, the impacts of solution pH on boron and sodium rejections are irreversible in most cases.

  • In this study, acryl resin PSA containing hydroxyl group based on 2-EHA (2-ethyl hexyl acrylate), 2-EHMA (2-ethyl hexyl methacrylate), 2-HEA (2-Hydroxy ethyl acrylate), acrylic acid was synthesized and then, isocyanate modified acryl resin PSA prepared with adduct reaction according to the amount of MOI (Methacryloyloxyethyl isocyanate) or 2-isocyanatoethyl methacrylate that can improve the curing property. This research shows that the initial PSA and peel adhesion are decreased according to the increase of the amount of the MOI and isocyanate curing agent. After UV irradiating, the peel adhesion is decreased with increasing the amount of the MOI (Methacryloyloxyethyl isocyanate) and isocyanate curing agent, because of the high curing property.
