  • The purpose of this study was to develop a career planning program for medical students and to examine its effectiveness with regard to career choice motivation and career maturity. A total of 89 medical students participated in the study. Forty-four were in the experimental group and 45 were in the control group. The collected data were analyzed with the t-test, analysis of covariance, descriptive statistics, and analysis of frequency by PASW SPSS ver. 18.0 (SPSS Inc.). A career planning program was developed using the ADDIE (analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation) model. The contents of self-understanding and career exploration were included in this program. The program was conducted as a seminar with preferred major professors. There was a significant difference in the intrinsic motivation score between the control and experimental groups (p<0.05). The score of the experimental group (M=4.59) was higher than that of the control group (M=4.40). Significant differences in decisiveness (p<0.01) and realistic choice (p<0.05), the sub-factors of the career maturity test, were found between the control and experimental groups. The score of decisiveness of the experimental group (M=2.94) was higher than that of the control group (M=2.79). The score of realistic choice in the experimental group (M=3.17) was lower than that in the control group (M=3.37). Most medical students were satisfied with the career planning program. It is hoped that these results provide useful information for designing career guidance programs for students in medical schools.

Measurement tools consisted of nurse image, professional self-concept, and career exploration behavior. Data processing was performed using the SPSS 22.0 program where general characteristics were analyzed by t-test, ANONA and post examination tests by Scheffe's test, using mean score, standard deviation, Pearson's correlation, and stepwise multiple regression. Nursing students' nurse image, professional self-concept, and career exploration behavior were all found to have significant positive correlations, and the most influential variable was professional self-concept. As for the total explanatory power of these variables, model 2 showed 25% explanatory power, which was increased by 2% compared to model 1. Based on this result, it is necessary to develop education and a career exploration action program which can improve the nurse image and professional self-concept.

  • The primary purpose of this research is to examine the career development of under-graduate environmental education program students. More specifically, it intends to understand how they perceive their career prospect, how they prepare for they career and what kind of career development assistance they receive from their school. For most of college students, a primary purpose for attending college is to prepare for a career, but often academic preparation in college is not enough to get the job they aspire. Career preparation becomes even more complex when their major does not dictate any specific career path or when the major does dictate a specific career path but it does not provide sufficient and quality job opportunities. Undergraduate environmental education programs are typical examples of the latter. To illuminate the understanding of the context surrounding undergraduate environmental education program students, semi-structured interviews were conducted through an instance message software program from August 17th, 2007 to August 20th, 2007. The subjects of this study consisted of 4 undergraduate students and 2 graduates of Hangu University (a tentative name). Each participant was interviewed once or twice for about 2 hours each interview. The findings of the study are as follow. First, they maintain a positive attitude regarding the career outlook and the career decision but it is not well founded. Second, career search and career preparation are conducted individually, and their school does not provide much systematic career assistance. Third, they did not see the relevance of the curriculum of their program to their future career. A few preliminary implications for practices related to career development may be drawn from the findings reported in this study. First, undergraduate students in environmental education programs appear to be in need of comprehensive career development assistance ranging from exploration of job opportunities related to majors, to development of job-seeking skills, to general issues of career preparation and choice. Experiential modes of career exploration seem to be helpful in clarifying their interest and aptitude in the area of environmental education. Second, career development assistance for these students should start at early college years. Third, these students may need help in exploring diverse opportunities related to their major as well as other academic areas. Finally, it is recommended to create more careers in the area of environmental education.

The survey for the study was taken twice with the same questionnaire toward the same object; one was a pre-survey that has been done before operating the program and the other was a pro-survey that was done after operating the program. The data was analyzed to obtain the 4 variables of job-seeking efficacy to overcome the career-barriers, which were self-efficacy, job-seeking skill, interpersonal relationship skill and job-information exploration and the 5th variable, job-maintaining willingness. The study findings were as follows. Firstly, the program efficiency was significant in interpersonal relationship skill and job-information exploration, while not significant in self-efficacy and job-seeking skill. Secondly, the self-efficacy and interpersonal relationship skill among the job-seeking efficacy to overcome career-barriers positively affects the job-maintaining willingness.
