A case of Cryptococcal Meningitis (크립토코크스 뇌막염 1례 보고)

  • The clinical picture and CSF findings in cryptococcus meningitis may be identical with those of tuberculous meningitis. The differential diagnosis can be made by finding the budding yeast organism in the counting chamber or in stained smear, the detection of cryptococcal antigen in CSF by the latex agglutination test, and by culture of the fungus on Sabouraud agar. We experienced a case of cryptococcal meningitis in the 48 years old woman, which was confirmed by Indian ink preparation and culture.

  • A steel plated is typically composed of plate panels. The overall failure of the structure is certainly affected and can be governed by the bulking and plastic collapse of these individual members In the ultimate limit state design. therefore. a primary task is to accurately calculate the budding and plastic collapse strength of such structural members. Structural elements making up steel palated structures do not work separately. resulting in high degree of redundancy and complexity in contrast to those of steel framed structures. To enable the behavior of such structures to be analyzed, simplifications or idealizations must essentially be made considering the accuracy need and degree of complexity of the analysis to be used Generally the more complex the analysis the greater is the accuracy that may be obtained. The aim of this study is the investigation of the effect of the tripping behaviour including section characteristic for a plate under uniaxial compression.

  • 질염 환자의 질분비물 도말에서 광학현미경상에서 고배율로 관찰한 결과 정상 상피세포에서는 질내 정상 pH를 유지하기 위해 무수한 젖산균의 존재를 확인할수 있었다. 그러나 저배율, 고배율의 광학현미경상에서 진균에 감염된 세포 주변에서 젖산균(lactobacilli)은 관찰되지 않았다. 주사전자 현미경 상에서 Candida albicans는 기능을 탈락한 상피세포의 세포질에 기생하며, biofilm의 성장환경을 만들며, budding을 통해 2차 딸세포를 형성하며, 성장과 증식을 끊임없이 반복함을 확인하였다. 성장과 재생이 주기적으로 일어나지 않은 면역력이 약화된 임산부나, 호르몬의 부족으로 인한 위축성 질염 환자는 상피세포층이 떨어지면서 나오는 글리코겐을 이용해 질내에 존재하는 lactobacilli균이 젖산을 풍부하게 만들 수 없으므로 감염증 발생이 더 높아진 것으로 사료된다.

Development of Research into Autophagic Lysosome Reformation

  • Autophagy is a lysosome-dependent degradation process that is essential for maintaining cellular homeostasis. In recent years, more studies have focused on the late stages of autophagy. Our group discovered and studied the terminal step of autophagy, namely autophagic lysosome reformation (ALR). ALR is the process that regenerates functional lysosomes from autolysosomes, thus maintaining lysosome homeostasis. ALR involves clathrin-mediated membrane budding from autolysosomes, elongation of membrane tubules along microtubules with the pulling force provided by the motor protein KIF5B, proto-lysosome scission by dynamin 2, and finally maturation of proto-lysosomes to functional lysosomes. In this review, we will summarize progress in unveiling the molecular mechanisms underlying ALR and its potential pathophysiological roles.

  • Numerical methods are developed for solving the elastica and buckling load of cantilever column with constant volume, subjected to a compressive end load. The linear, parabolic and sinusoidal tapers with the regular polygon cross-sections are considered, whose material volume and span length are always held constant. The differential equations governing the elastica of buckled column are derived. The Runge-Kutta method is used to integrate the differential equations, and the Regula-Falsi method is used to determine the horizontal deflection at free end and the buckling load, respectively. The numerical methods developed herein for computing the elastica and the buckling loads of the columns are found to be efficient and reliable.

  • The elastic buckling strength of a corrugated culvert made of orthotropic material such as FRP was evaluated. The height and length of a corrugated wave and the thickness of the culvert were considered as factors affecting the buckling strength of the culvert. And also, the ratio of the longitudinal stiffness and transverse stiffness was considered as the parameter affecting on the buckling strength of the used orthotropic material. Buckling strengths of various corrugated culvert models with different shapes and stiffness ratio were evaluated by FE analyses and a formula to estimate the elastic buckling strength was suggested from the regression with FE analysis results. Analysis results show that a corrugated culvert has superior buckling strength to a general flat pipe and the suggested formula estimates accurate buckling strength of the corrugated culverts made of orthotropic material.

  • Acute Megakaryoblastic leukemia is a rare and rapidly fatal disease characterized by proliferation of megakaryocyte series and atypical megakaryocytes in the bone marrow. Acute Megakaryoblastic leukemia is suspicious when 1) megakaryocyte in peripheral blood, mixture of large and small mononuclear megakaryoblast in the bone marrow 2) cytoplasmic budding in blast 3) myelofibrosis (dense medullary overgrowth of reticulin fibers) 4) PAS(+), ANAE(+), SBB(-), peroxidase(-) and which is confirmed by platelet peroxidase oxidation on electromicroscope or monoclonal antibody. A case of aute megakaryoblastic leukemia was studied morphologically and monoclonal antibody.

  • The bifurcation point where a satellite component buds from another component is characterized by the existence of the common tangent line between the two osculating components appearing in the degree-n bifurcation set. We investigate the existence, location and number of bifurcation points for satellite components budding from the main component in the degree-n bifurcation set as well as a parametric boundary equation of the main component of the degree-n bifurcation set. Cusp points are also located on the boundary of the main component. Typical degree-n bifurcation sets and their components are illustrated with some computational results.

  • Quality of Sikhe, the Korean conventional rice beverage depended on the characteristics of saccharifying activities of various amylases, intrinsic flavour, budding rate and so on. To improve the quality of Sikhe, characteristics of malt produced with wheat, covered barley and naked barley were evaluated. The germination rate of wheat was 82%, but those of naked and covered barley were 69% and 56% for 6 days, respectively. Malt prepared from germinated grains with 1.5~2.0 times length of buds had the highest saccharifying power. when the extraction of enzyme and reducing sugar was carried out at 5$0^{\circ}C$ for 4 hr, saccarifying power and reducing sugar contents were the highest. Malt of wheat had the highest saccharifying power. Malt of naked barley had higher saccharifying power than that of covered barley. The amylase types of wheat, covered barley and naked barley were similar to $\beta$-amylase.
