Dynamic response of transmission line conductors under downburst and synoptic winds

  • In the current study, dynamic and quasi-static analyses were performed to investigate the response of multiple-spanned and single-spanned transmission line conductors under both downburst and synoptic winds considering different wind velocities and different length spans. Two critical downburst configurations, recommended in the literature and expected to cause maximum conductor reactions, were considered in the analyses. The objective of the study was to assess the importance of including the dynamic effect when predicting the conductor's reactions on the towers. This was achieved by calculating the mean, the background and the resonant reaction components, and evaluating the contribution of the resonant component to the peak reaction. The results show that the maximum contribution of the resonant component is generally low (in the order of 6%) for the multiple-spanned system at different wind velocities for both downburst and synoptic winds. For the single-spanned system, the result show a relatively high maximum contribution (in the order of 16%) at low wind velocity and a low maximum contribution (in the order of 6%) at high wind velocity for both downburst and synoptic winds. Such contributions may justify the usage of the quasi-static approach for analyzing transmission line conductors subjected to the high wind velocities typically used for the line design.

  • 초음속풍동에서 사용하는 압력 probe의 형상에 따른 압력특성에 대하여 분석하였다. 초음속풍동의 성능을 평가할 때 시험부의 벽면정압력과 전방안정실의 전압력을 측정하고 그 비로 마하수를 계산한다. 또한 쉴리렌 가시화를 통하여 유질의 상태를 확인한다. 그러나 매우 빠른 초음속 영역에서는 경계층의 영향을 무시할 수 없기 때문에 시험부의 압력을 측정하는데 한계가 있다. 따라서 시험부의 유질이 균일한지 확인을 위해 다양한 위치에서 압력을 측정하기 위한 probe가 필요하다. 본 논문에서 몇 가지 피토형상에 대해서 실험을 진행했고, 그 결과를 비교 분석했다.

  • 산업용 건축물은 일반적으로 박공지붕형 저층의 형태로 많이 건설된다. 본 연구는 박공지붕형 저층건물의 풍압분포와 특성을 알아보기 위하여 풍동실험을 수행하였다. 풍동실험은 경사각 변화에 따른 외장재용 피크외압계수 분포양상을 알아보기 위하여 동일한 폭과 높이, 길이를 가지지만 지붕 경사각이 서로 다른 7가지의 모형을 제작하여 실험하였다. 실험결과 지붕과 벽면의 모서리 부분에서 최대 피크외압계수가 나타났으며, 이를 KBC-2005 및 각국의 기준과 비교하여 보았다. 실험에 의한 피크외압계수는 AIJ-2004와 매우 유사하게 나타났지만 KBC -2005보다는 다소 크게 나타났다.

  • This paper presents a comprehensive study of pressure developed on different faces of a 'Y' plan shape tall building using both numerical and experimental means. The experiment has been conducted in boundary layer wind tunnel located at Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee, India for flow condition corresponding to terrain category II of IS:875 (Part 3) - 1987, at a mean wind velocity of 10 m/s. Numerical study has been carried out under similar condition using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) package of ANSYS, namely ANSYS CFX. Two turbulence models, viz., $k-{\varepsilon}$ and Shear Stress Transport (SST) have been used. Good conformity among the numerical and experimental results have been observed with SST model yielding results of higher magnitude. Peculiar pressure distribution on certain faces has been observed due to interference effect. Furthermore, flow pattern around the model has also been studied to explain the phenomenon occurring around the model.

  • Twenty six pressure models of high rise buildings with various cross-sections including twisted models were tested in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The cross-sections were triangular, square, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, dodecagon, circular, and clover. This study investigates variations in peak pressures, and effects of various cross-sections and twist angles on peak pressures. To study the effects of various configurations and twist angles on peak pressures in detail, maximum positive and minimum negative peak pressures at each measurement point of the building for all wind directions are presented and discussed. The results show that peak pressures greatly depend on building cross-section and twist angle.

남극 건물주위에 형성되는 설퇴현상의 모의실험 및 분석방법에 관한 연구 (Simulation and Analysing Methods of Snowdrifting around an Elevated Building in Antarctica)

  • 남극의 설퇴현상을 모의실험하기 위하여 폐쇠식 대기경계층난류풍동을 호주 시드니대학토목공학과에 제작 설치하였다. 철강과 100mm높이의 구형판자 및 촘촘한 양탄자등의 실험요소를 사용하여 경계층전단난류를 유도발생켰다. 유도발생된 난류는 호주령 남극령토의 해안지역에 부는 난류와 비슷한 유형을 뛰었다. 자연눈에 대처할 물질을 찾기 위하여 몇몇종류의 가루를 사용하였으나 중탄산나트륨이 가장 적합한 것임이 증명되었다. 남극건물모델주위에 실험을 통해 쌓인 눈의 형태로부터 등고선무늬를 형상화 시켰으며 image processing unit을 이용하여 등고선무늬를 포착한 후 등고선 분석 software를 이용, 눈의 형태와 양을 분석하였다.

  • Transport rate of windblown dusts such as soil, sand, snow is proportionate to $U*_^3 and U_*$, friction velocity, approximately to flow velocity of ink Therefore, through measurement and the flow velocity of wind, it turned out that, considering different velocity distributions caused by downstream distance and porosity percent, windbreaks with appropriate porosity rate to the Protection area should be chosen for the optimal fence effect. In the economic respects better are fences with gap of 20%~30%. Among the windbreaks to have the optimal fence effect.

유연벽면 점탄성 소재 배합비와 저항저감 효과의 상관관계 (Correlation Between the Composition of Compliant Coating Material and Drag Reduction Efficiency)

  • A specially designed flat plate was mounted vertically over the axial line in the wind tunnel of the Pusan National University. Strain balances were mounted in the trailing part of the plate to measure the skin friction drag over removable insertions of $0.55{\times}0.25m^2$ size. A set of the insertions was designed and manufactured: 3 mm thick polished metal surface and three compliant surfaces. The compliant surfaces were manufactured of a silicone rubber Silastic$^{(R)}$ S2 (Dow Corning company). To modify the viscoelastic properties of the rubber, its composition was varied: 90% rubber + 10% catalyst (standard), 92.5% + 7.5% (weak), 85% + 15% (strong). Modulus of elasticity and the loss factor were measured accurately for these materials in the frequency range from 40 Hz to 3 kHz. The aging of the materials (variation of their properties) for the period of one year was documented as well. Along with the drag measurement using the strain balance, velocity and pressure were measured for different coating. The strong compliant coating achieved 5% drag reduction within a velocity range $20{\sim}40$ m/s while standard and weak coatings increased drag reduction.

  • KRISO 300K VLCC 이중모형선 주위의 유동특성을 풍동실험을 통해 연구하였다. 선체 선미 주위유동과 후류유동의 평균속도 성분, 난류강도, 레이놀즈 전단응력 및 난류 운동에너지 분포를 열선풍속계를 이용하여 측정하였다. 실험은 선미와 후류의 횡단면에서 수행하였으며, 선체 표면에서의 유동 패턴을 정성적으로 조사하기 위하여 유막법을 이용한 유동가시화도 수행하였다. 선미와 근접 후류영역은 매우 복잡한 3차원의 유동특성을 가지고 있으며, 특히 종방향 와류영역에서 고리 모양의 후류 구조를 볼 수 있었다. 그리고 중앙평행부에서의 얇은 경계층은 선미 영역을 지나며 점차 두꺼워지고 복잡한 3차원 난류후류로 발전하였다.

  • This paper describes the results of an experimental investigation of the flow characteristics and the heat transfer rate on a surface by interaction of a pair of vortices. The test facility consists of a boundary-layer wind tunnel with a vortex introduced into the flow by half-delta wings(vortex generators) protruding from the surface. In order to control the strength of the two longitudinal vortices, the angles of attack of the vortex generators are varied from 20 degree to 45 degree, but spacings between the vortex generators are fixed to 4 cm. The 3-dimensional mean velocity downstream of the vortex generators is measured by a five-hole pressure probe, and the hue-capturing method using the thermochromatic liquid crystals has been used to provide the local distribution of the heat transfer coefficient. By using the method mentioned above, the following conclusions are obtained from the present experiment. The boundary layer is thinned in the regions where the secondary flow is directed toward the wall and thickened where it is directed away from the wall. The peak augmentation of the local heat transfer coefficient occurs in the downwash region near the point of minimum boundary-layer thickness. Streamwise distributions of averaged Stanton number on the measurement planes show very similar trends for all the cases(${\beta}=20^{circ},\;30^{\circ}\;and\;45^{\circ}$).
