This study was conducted to compare the growth performances of three groups of commercial Korean native chickens (KNCs) including two strains of crossbreeds and H3 (Hanhyeop 3) from hatch to twelve weeks of age. (1A, 2A, and H3). A total of 468 one-day-old chicks were allocated in a completely randomized design with 15 replicates per treatment for the crossbreeds and 9 replicates per treatment for H3 (12 birds per cage). Commercial broiler diets (i.e., Week 0 - 5 crude protein [CP] 22.0%, metabolizable energy [ME] 3,025 kcal·kg-1; week 5 - 8 CP 20.0%, ME 3,100 kcal·kg-1; week 8 - 12 CP 19.0%, ME 3,150 kcal·kg-1) were provided according to the Korean Feeding Standard for Poultry on an ad-libitum basis with fresh clean water during the twelve-week period. Body weight gain and shank length (SL) were measured weekly until week 6 and bi-weekly during week 6 to 12. Compared to H3, the two crossbreed groups had a higher body weight (BW) on weeks 3 to 8; however, the bodyweight of H3 on week 10 was significantly higher than the other groups (p < 0.05). Moreover, the average daily feed intake (ADFI) of H3 was higher than that of the two crossbreed groups from hatching to 84 days except for week 3, and H3 showed a lower average daily gain (ADG) on weeks 3 and 10 (p < 0.05). Furthermore, H3 had a higher feed conversion ratio compared to another crossbreed chicken on weeks 1 to 8 and the last week after hatching. Among all the groups, there was no significant difference for shank length during the experimental period.
The study was conducted to evaluate the growth performance, viability, and uniformity of female crossbred Korean native chickens (KNC) for the first twelve weeks after hatching. Six crossbreed lines of chickens (1B, 2B, 3B, 4B, 5B, and 6B) bred from 1 paternal line and 6 maternal lines of KNC were compared in this study. Sixty newly hatched 1-day old chicks from each crossbreed, for a total of 360 chickens, were allocated into 6 replicates (10 birds per replicate) in a complete randomized design. Experimental diets used in this study consisted of 3 phases: 1) week 0 to 5, crude protein 20.3% and metabolizable energy 3,059 kcal/kg; 2) week 5 to 8, crude protein 18.6% and metabolizable energy 3,123 kcal/kg; and 3) week 8 to 12, crude protein 16.7% and metabolizable energy 3,187 kcal/kg. Body weight and feed intake were measured bi-weekly during the experiment. The 4B crossbreed had a higher body weight, average daily gain, and average daily feed intake on week 12 (p < 0.05) than the other groups. The 4B crossbreed had a lower (p < 0.05) uniformity during weeks 10 to 12 than crossbreeds 1B and 5B. However, a lower viability was observed (p > 0.05) in 4B in weeks 2 to 12 than those in the other groups. Results of the current study indicate that the 4B crossbreed had a higher growth performance in week 12 but had a lower viability for weeks 2 to 12 than the other crossbreeds.
A heat-pressed technique(IPS-Empress, Ivoclar) has been described to construct single unit crown, inlay/onlay and veneers using a partially pre-cerammed and pre-colored glass-leucite ingot that has the greateast strength by the combination of heat-pressed procedure through the smalldiameter sprue and heat treatment procedure. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the flexure strength of a heat-pressed ceramic material(IPS-Empress) without simulated firing treatments according to pontic designs. Two groups of 9 disks(1.4mm thick, 14mm in diameter) each using two types of sprues with different diameters($({\Phi}2.8\;,{\Phi}1.8)$) and numbers were prepared. The specimens were mounted in the testing jig. The flexural strengths were determined, by means of the bi-axial bending test, by loading the center of disk to failure using a universal testing machine(Zwick 145141, Zwick, Germany) at a cross-head speed of 1.0 mm/min. The means flexural strength value of one group using a sprue with ${\Phi}2.8$ was $140.4{\pm}8.0Mpa$. That of the other group using two sprues with ${\Phi}1.8$ was $151.8{\pm}10.3Mpa$. After analysis, results showed that there was a statistical difference between groups(t=2.33m p<0.05). No clnical implications were drawn from these data because of absence of simulated firing treatment.
This study was conducted in order to investigate the effects of Artemisia capillaris (AC) extract on disorders of hepatic functions and lipid metabolism induced by 2,3,7,8-tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxin (TCDD), an endocrine disrupter, using male rats (SD, five weeks old) for a period of three weeks. These 37 animals were divided into four groups. AC extract was added as 1.5% or 3% levels to basal diets, respectively. TCDD (40 ug/kg B.W) was administered by intraperitoneal injection into rats after a week from the beginning of the experiment. AC extract alleviated the increase of rat's relative liver weights induced by TCDD. Thymuses of all rats treated with TCDD were apparently shrunken by approximately 80%. Levels of white blood cells (WBC), red blood cells, hemoglobin, and hematocrits were significantly increased by treatment with TCDD, however, WBC tended to decrease by AC extract diets. In hepatic function, the elevation of glutamic oxalacetic transaminase activities by TCDD treatment was diminished by AC extract diets. Serum HDL-cholesterol levels were significantly elevated by AC extract diets. The apparent increase of triglyceride levels of rat livers induced by TCDD was significantly suppressed in the AC extract diet groups. Hepatic cytosolic catalase activities significantly decreased by treatment with TCDD showed a recovering trend by AC extract diets. In histochemical observation, the fat droplets and apoptosis of hepatocytes treated with TCDD were markedly alleviated by AC extract diets. These results indicated that AC could exert recovering effects on some disorders of hepatic functions, lipids metabolism, and antioxidant activities resulting from TCDD treatment.
With the selected emulsifiers for the emulsion polymerization of methyl methacrylate, the HLB of the emulsifier in the reaction system has been studied on the effect of the ratio of tetra sodium-N-(1,2-dicarboxy ethyl)-N-octadecyl sulfosuccinamate(Aerosol 22) to polyethylene glycol nonyl phenyl ether (Noigen EA 160), and also sodium lauryl sulfate(Quolac EX-UB), Disodium-N-octadecyl sulfosuccinamate (Aerosol 18) and Aerosol 22 as emulsifiers having various hydrophilic groups in the molecules have been studied. Results are as follows; 1) The viscosity of the emulsions and the molecular weight of the polymers have maximum values at a constant HLB value of emulsifiers, but their stabilities show minimum point at the value with the titration with the three kinds of mono, bi, tri-valent electrolytes. These results are agreed on the theory of Greth & Wilson in which the properties of polymer emulsions depend upon the HLB system of emulsifiers. 2) The viscosity of the emulsions and the molecular weights of the produced polymers increase more in the case of blending of Aerosol 22 to Noigen EA-160 than of the separate using. 3) The coagulation effects of the divalent electrolytes($ex,\;Ca^{++},\;Zn^{++}$) are contrast to the effects of monovalent($ex,\;Na^+$) and trivalent($ex,\;Al^{+++}$) in the emulsions with Aerosol 18 or Aerosol 22 which have more than two hydrophilic groups. It seems that the stability of the O/W emulsions by electrolytes is directly related to the parameters of surface physical chemistry such as surface geometry of surface chemical constitution of polymer particles.

The aim of this study was to apply the Cornell net carbohydrate and protein system (CNCPS) in subtropical Taiwan. This was done by means of 3 trials, viz, in situ, lactation and metabolic trials, the latter using the urinary purine derivatives (UPD) to estimate the ruminal microbial yield. Dietary treatments were formulated according to different nutrient requirement systems including, (1) a control NRC78 group on NRC (1978), (2) a NRC88 group on NRC (1988), and (3) a CNCPS group on Cornell Net carbohydrate and protein system model. Results from the lactation trial showed that DM intake (DMI) was higher (p<0.05) in the NRC78 than the other treatment groups. The treatments did not significantly influence milk yield, but milk yield after covariance adjustment for DMI was higher in the CNCPS group (p<0.05). The FCM, milk fat content and yield were greater in both the NRC78 and the NRC88 group over the CNCPS group (p<0.05). The treatments did not significantly influence the DMI adjusted FCM. The solid-non-fat and milk protein contents were higher in the CNCPS group (p<0.05) with or without DMI covariance adjustment. Lactating efficiency was higher in the CNCPS group (p<0.05) compared to the other groups. The significantly lowest milk urea-N (MUN) with better protein utilization efficiency in the CNCPS group (p<0.05) suggested that less N would be excreted into the environment. Cows in the CNCPS group excreted significantly more and the NRC88 group significantly less urinary purine derivatives (UPD) implying that more ruminal microbial protein was synthesized in the CNCPS over the NRC88 group. The CNCPS could become the most useful tool in predicting the trends in milk yield, microbial yield and MUN.
This study observed the frequency of post-surgical infection according to post-surgical application of antibiotics in order to evaluate the benefits of the use of antibiotics after the orthognathic surgery. 349 patients without any specific medical history were divided into two groups depending on whether or not antibiotics had been applied after the surgery. The mean(SD) age of the 349 patients was 22.7(${\pm}4.25$) with a male-female ratio of 168:181. 226 patients received only 1.0g of a third-generation cephalosporin(Cefpiramide) intravenously 30 minutes prior to the surgery. Likewise, 123 patients received 1.0g of Cefpiramide 30 minutes prior to the surgery and twice daily longer than the third day after surgery. The mean(SD) duration of administration was 4.75(${\pm}0.89$) day. The patients were evaluated after surgery for any postoperative infections according to the criteria: purulent drainage from a wound, spontaneous wound dehiscence accompanied by swelling, pain, and fever around the wound. However, 14 patients of 226 patients received antibiotics only prior to the surgery developed postoperative infection, 2 patients of 123 patients received antibiotics longer than postoperative 3 days developed postoperative infection. Postoperative infection frequency showed no significant difference between the two groups(p=0.094). Also, bi-maxillary operation and mandibular operation alone, showed no significant difference in the frequency of post-surgical infection when antibiotics had been continuously used after the surgery. From this study, postoperative use of antibiotics seems to be unnecessary with view of the little significance of the factors that could affect the wound infection.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was aimed to compare the shear bond strength on dentin of three dentin bonding agents and two resin cements used in conjunction with self-cured composite resin core material. Material and method : Control group and six experimental groups were divided for this study. Control group was designated as specimens bonded with Tenure$ A&B^{(R)}$. Experimental groups were as follows : PB-BL group : specimens bonded with Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$, $BondLink^{(R)}$ SB-BL group : specimens bonded with $^{(R)}$, BondLink$SingleBond^{(R)}$ PB group : specimens bonded with Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ SB group : specimens bonded with $SingleBond^{(R)}$ PF group : specimens bonded with $Panavia-F^{(R)}$ BI group specimens bonded with Bistite $II^{(R)}$ All specimens were stored in $37^{\circ}C$ distilled water for 24 hours, followed by the shear bond strength was tested by universal testing machine. The data was analysed statistically by Mann-Whitney test. Results : 1. For Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ and $SingleBonde^{(R)}$, the shear bond strength was 0.24 MPa and 7.19 MPa each by each, while Tenure $A&B^{(R)}$ group control was measured at 13.93 MPa (p<0.05). Especially for Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ it did not get conjunction with dentin. 2. For Prime&Bond $NT^{(R)}$ and $SingleBond^{(R)}$ using $BondLink^{(R)}$, there was no significant difference as a result of 11.73 MPa and 14.00 MPa each by each (p<0.05). 3. For $Panavia-F^{(R)}$ and Bistite $II^{(R)}$, they showed the highest shear bond strength as measured by 18.24 MPa and 16.09 MPa each (p<0.05).
This study examines the appearance management attitude factor of male college students and groups them according to their characteristics. Then this research analyzes their interest in knitwear, buying behavior, and characteristics to see what kind of differences exist. The results of the research are as follows: First, after conducting a factor analysis to identify the appearance management attitude of male college students, 3 factors emerged(sought personality, pursued trends, and appearance interest). Second, as a result grouping the students according to their attitude. It is created 3 groups(fashionista group, personality group, and appearance interest group). Third, for the interest in knitwear, the fashionista group had the highest interest in knitwear, with a preferred brand when purchasing. Fourth, the fashionista group that values personality and latest trends was more likely to purchase knitwear than the personality group or the appearance interest group. Finally, the majority preferred solid colors. Over 50% of the students preferred knits without any patterns. Also, the most preferred 100% cotton. As this survey was only surveyed in Seoul and Gyounggi areas. The next research requires to be surveyed in a more comprehensive area. Additionally, male college students must more effectively be segmented and surveyed to get accurate results.
The present study was performed to investigate the effects of the colchicine concentrations on chromosome doubling for producing of tetraploid plants of Codonopsis lanceolata, and its effect on plant morphology. A total of 180 individuals germinated from 16 treatment groups, were exposed to various concentrations (0.05-1.0% w/v) of colchicine for different soaking duration (3-24 hour). The highest numbers of tetraploid plants (3) were observed from the lowest concentration of colchicine (0.05%), and one (1) tetraploid plant was obtained from the 0.5% concentration group with a 6 hour treatment. However, no tetraploid individual was observed in any other treatment groups. The plant height of the diploid (18.1 ㎝) was slightly shorter than that of the tetraploid (13.4 ㎝). The fresh weight of the main root in the diploid (0.5 g) was four-fold higher than the tetraploid (2.2 g). The colchicine-treated plant regeneration rate in C. lanceolata was decreased when the plants were subjected to high concentration of colchicine. In particular, the highest number of tetraploid plants (5 and 3) was obtained from the lower concentration (0.05% and 0.1%) of colchicine for 6-hour treatment, which were a higher rate (29.4% and 30%) of regenerated tetraploid plants than other regenerated plants. As in the seed treatment result, the plant height of the diploid was significantly higher (10.4 ㎝) than tetraploid. The higher morphological changes were observed comparatively from tetraploid plants than the diploid.
