  • Bending performances of aluminum square tube beams reinforced by aluminum plates under three point bending loads have been evaluated using experimental tests combined with theoretical and finite element analyses. A finite element simulation for the three-point bending test was performed. Basic properties of aluminum materials used for initial input data of the finite element simulation were obtained from the true stress-true strain curves of specimens which had been extracted from the Al tube beams. True stresses were determined from applied loads and cross-sectional area records of a tensile specimen with a rectangular cross-section by real-time photographing, and true strains were obtained from in-situ local elongation measurements of the specimen gage portion by the multi-point scanning laser extensometer. Six kinds of aluminum tube beam specimens adhered by aluminum plates were employed fur the bending test. The bending deformation behaviors up to the maximum load described by the numerical simulation were in good agreement with experimental ones. After passing the maximum load, reinforcing plate was debonded from the aluminum tube beam. An aluminum tube beam strengthened by aluminum plate on the upper web showed an excellent bending capability.

  • The mechanical response of concrete-filled steel tubular (CFST) columns subjected to pure compression or uniaxial bending was studied in depth over the last decades. However, the available research results on CFST columns under biaxial bending are still scarce and the lack of experimental tests for this loading situation is evident. At the same time, the design provisions in Eurocode 4 Part 1.1 for verifying the stability of CFST columns under biaxial bending make use of a simplistic interaction curve, which needs to be revised. This paper presents the outcome of a numerical investigation on slender CFST columns subjected to biaxial bending. Eccentricities differing in minor and major axis, as well as varying end moment ratios are considered in the numerical model. A parametric study is conducted for assessing the current design guidelines of EN1994-1-1. Different aspect ratios, member slenderness, reinforcement ratios and load eccentricities are studied, covering both constant and variable bending moment distribution. The numerical results are subsequently compared to the design provisions of EN1994-1- 1, showing that the current interaction equation results overly conservative. An alternative interaction equation is developed by the authors, leading to a more accurate yet conservative proposal.

  • Ion exchange polymer membrane in the dehydrated state was found to exhibit bending upon a small applied voltage, although the investigations on the hydrated ion exchange polymer membrane bending behavior have been performed quite intensively for more than a decade for the purpose of producing a practical polymer actuator. Our investigation on the dehydrated ion exchange polymer membrane has revealed that its bending direction is perfectly controllable by the polarity control of applied voltage and the degree of its bending curvature is also almost completely determined by the control of duration time of voltage application on it, while the hydrated ion exchange polymer membranes lack of such properties. Furthermore the longevity of dehydrated ion exchange polymer membrane sustaining such a highly controllable properties has been found quite longer than that of the hydrated ion exchange polymer membrane.

  • Recent general press brake has many problems in cutting high accurate products in the progress of industry. Previous hand-operated press brake needs many pre-processing works to adjust bending angle and marking-off works to calculate bending length. Also, The hand-operating work makes many geometric errors and has difficulty for variety-mass production. To solve these problems, this paper proposes Computer Numerical Control (CNC) general press brake and development of servo-control system based on database for reduction of geometric errors and pre-processing work time.

  • The overhead transmission wires operating both at warm temperature and tighten state for a long period of time in a power transmission plant are degraded by air pollution, wind, creep and slip between steel wire and aluminium conductor. The objective of this study is to investigate a high carbon steel wire. We tested for basic mechanical properties and 3 types fatigue behavior, tension-tension, 4 points bending and 3 points bending fatigues. In this study, a conventional fatigue strengths between 4 points bending and tension-tension fatigue were determined by Gerber, Sorderberg and Goodman's theory and we investigated S-N diagram for bending and tensile loading.

  • In this study, when tension and bending stress act on plate simultaneously, stress intensity factor is analyzed at crack tip with using BEM(Boundary Element Method). In this analysis, stress intensity factors(S.I.F) are defined for variable ligament, aspect and stress ratio($\sigma$T/$\sigma$B). Consequently, predicted that crack grow to depth direction at low aspect and ligament ratio in tension stress and to surface direction in bending stress. Tension and bending stress act on plate same time, effect of tension stress in the first stage and effect of bending stress in the after stage was to observed. The outbreak of secondary crack in backside is under the control of stress amplitude and predict that the point of outbreak is mear backside.

  • Closed form solutions for equilibrium and flexibility matrices of the Mindlin-Reissner theory based eight-node rectangular plate bending element (MRP8) using Integrated Force Method (IFM) are presented in this paper. Though these closed form solutions of equilibrium and flexibility matrices are applicable to plate bending problems with square/rectangular boundaries, they reduce the computational time significantly and give more exact solutions. Presented closed form solutions are validated by solving large number of standard square/rectangular plate bending benchmark problems for deflections and moments and the results are compared with those of similar displacement-based eight-node quadrilateral plate bending elements available in the literature. The results are also compared with the exact solutions.

  • The objective of this study was to develop a scientific approach for investigating Korean dance in detail, and to examine the intense expressions and various movements, which are based on Danjeon breathing. For the purpose, we analyzed the movement changes and distribution of forces resulting from the switch in movement between exhalation and inhalation while bending, which is the most basic movement in Korean dance. The following conclusions were drawn from this study. In Korean dance, bending with breathing involves less back-and-forth-movement and more up-and-down movement, as compared to bending without breathing; this indicates greater body stability and a wider range of movements while bending with breathing. In addition, less time is required for bending with breathing at the point of switching from exhalation to inhalation, and it involves less movement of the supporting leg; thus, vending with breathing involves faster switching from bending movements to extending movements. While bending, the raised leg goes through a less smooth curve while breathing, which indicates stronger movement of the toes. Bending with breathing requires a greater braking force than bending without breathing, and the vertical force, generated by switching from exhalation to inhalation, is transferred to extending movements using the ground load. The results of this study can be potentially employed to investigate the expressions used in Korean dance on th basis of its principle of forces. Korean dance has evolved into various creative forms, and basic analytical studies of these diverse forms and related breathing methods re required in the future.

  • In this study, it was examined the characteristics of bending property of red pine(Pinus densiflora S, et Z.) related to slope of grain. At first, we have investigated the characteristics of wood species for bending property. At second, it was examined the relationships between grain angle and its related bending property. Specimens were made following to grain angle $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$, respectively. Dimension of wood materials was $10mm(T){\times}20mm(R){\times}350mm(L)$. Microwave irradiation time for bending process was 30, 60, 90, 120 seconds. The result of this study were as follows ; 1. Grain angle of wood was closely related to Young's modulus on bending process. In the process of bending with various grain angle, wood bending was easily proceed on the high grain angle range. 2. However, the strength of bent wood was very weak when the grain angle was high. Therefore, it was considered suitable grain angle for bending was existed. 3. The characteristics of wood properties for wood bending were very different among wood species.

  • Induction bending via high-frequency heating is widely used for manufacturing pipe and section steel bends. It allows productivity improvement, unit cost reduction, delivery time compliance, and good mechanical properties. The recent increase in high-end vessels and offshore plants has raised the demand for high-frequency bending, which should improve the product quality and reduce the costs by simplifying the fabrication process; therefore, the characteristics and performance of this technique must be studied and proper design technology is required. During hot pipe bending via induction heating, the outward wall thickness of the pipe is thinned due to tensile stress and this thickness reduction cannot exceed 12.5%. This study focused on pipe bends with a bending curvature of 5D and their optimization design; in particular, the conditions that can both improve the productivity of the high-frequency bending process and keep the maximum thickness reduction below 12.5% were determined.
