  • Dynamic behavior of flexural-torsional coupled vibration of rotating beams using the Rayleigh-Ritz method with orthogonal polynomials as basis functions is studied. Performance of various orthogonal polynomials is compared to each other in terms of their efficiency and accuracy in determining the required natural frequencies. Orthogonal polynomials and functions studied in the present work are: Legendre, Chebyshev, integrated Legendre, modified Duncan polynomials, the special trigonometric functions used in conjunction with Hermite cubics, and beam characteristic orthogonal polynomials. A total of 5 cases of beam boundary conditions and rotation are studied for their natural frequencies. The obtained natural frequencies and mode shapes are compared to those available in various references and the results for coupled flexural-torsional vibrations are especially compared to both previously available references and with those obtained using NASTRAN finite element package. Among all the examined orthogonal functions, Legendre orthogonal polynomials are the most efficient in overall CPU time, mainly because of ease in performing the integration required for determining the stiffness and mass matrices.

  • Polynomials are one of most important and widely used numerical tools in dealing with a smooth function on a bounded domain and trigonometric functions work for smooth periodic functions. However, they are not the best choice if a function has a bounded support in space and in frequency domain. The Prolate Spheroidal wave function (PSWF) of order zero has been known as a best candidate as a basis for band-limited functions. In this paper, we review some basic properties of PSWFs defined as eigenfunctions of bounded Fourier transformation. We also propose numerical inversion schemes based on PSWF and present some numerical examples to show their feasibilities as signal processing tools.

  • Reengineering to object-oriented system is needed to maintain the system and satisfy requirements of structure change. Target systems which should be reengineered to object-oriented system are difficult to change because these systems have no design document or their design document is inconsistent of source code. Using design document to identifying objects for these systems is improper. There are several researches which identify objects through procedural source code analysis. In this paper, we propose automatic object identification method based on clustering of VTFG(Variable-Type-Function Graph) which represents relations among variables, types, and functions. VTFG includes relations among variables, types, and functions that may be basis of objects, and weights of these relations. By clustering related variables, types, and functions using their weights, our method overcomes limit of existing researches which identify too big objects or objects excluding many functions. The method proposed in this paper minimizes user's interaction through automatic object identification and make it easy to reenginner procedural system to object-oriented system.

  • Let $F^{\alpha}G$ be a twisted group algebra with basis ${{\mu}g|g\;{\in}\;G}$ and $P\;=\;{C_g|g\;{\in}\;G}$ be a partition of G. A projective class algebra associated with P is a subalgebra of $F^{\alpha}G$ generated by all class sums $\sum\limits{_{x{\in}C_g}}\;{\mu}_x$. A main object of the paper is to find interrelationships of projective class algebras in $F^{\alpha}G$ and in $F^{\alpha}H$ for H < G. And the a-spherical function will play an important role for the purpose. We find functional properties of a-spherical functions and investigate roles of $\alpha-spherical$ functions as characters of projective class algebras.

  • We show that to every real polynomial of degree n, there corresponds a certain basis for the space of polynomials of degree less than or equal to (n-1). As an application, we give a new proof for the existence and uniqueness of the partial fraction decomposition of a rational function.

  • The purpose of this study is to show that the accuracy of the interpolation method can be at least doubled when additional smoothness requirements and boundary conditions are met. In particular, as a basis function, we are interested in using a conditionally positive definite function $\Phi$ whose generalized Fourier transform is of the form $\Phi(\theta)\;=\;F(\theta)$\mid$\theta$\mid$^{-2m}$ with a bounded function F > 0.

  • The techniques to recycle and reuse plastics attract public attention. These public attraction and needs result in improving the recycling technique. However, the identification technique for black plastic wastes still have big problem that the spectrum extracted from near infrared radiation spectroscopy is not clear and is contaminated by noise. To overcome this problem, we apply Raman spectroscopy to extract a clear spectrum of plastic material. In addition, to improve the classification ability of fuzzy Radial Basis Function Neural Networks, we apply supervised learning based clustering method instead of unsupervised clustering method. The conditional fuzzy C-Means clustering method, which is a kind of supervised learning based clustering algorithms, is used to determine the location of radial basis functions. The conditional fuzzy C-Means clustering analyzes the data distribution over input space under the supervision of auxiliary information. The auxiliary information is defined by using k Nearest Neighbor approach.
