  • Objectives: There are few studies which reflects of each generation's own features, of the New Middle Age and the Elderly's hearing status and their quality of life even though the population of old age has been weighted as baby boom generation's entering into old age. This study is to identify the effects of the new middle age and the elderly's hearing status on their quality of life and to prepare the customized health policies for their health promotion and quality of life improvement as well as the base line data for hearing enhancement programs. Methods: This study was analyzed using the data of the 7th term of the National Health and Nutrition Survey of the Disease Management headquarters. Out of 8,150 adults over the age of 50 who participated in the hearing test, 3,306 were selected and analyzed. Results: At the result of identifying the correlation of hearing status and the quality of life between the New Middle Age and the Elderly, it was confirmed that hearing loss affects low quality of life. The average of quality of life between the New Middle Age and the Elderly was 0.95 and 0.85 each, resulting in higher quality of life in New Middle Age than in the Elderly. The factors affecting the quality of life of the New Middle Age were the level of the education, household income, the type of health insurance, subjective health status. The factors affecting the quality of life of the Elderly were gender, the type of health insurance, subjective health status. Conclusion: Hearing loss of the New Middle Age and the Elderly affects their low quality of life. Therefore the development and the provision of policy program is needed, so as to maintain and manage hearing through age-specific health education. It is expected that the second half of the New Middle Age's life will be much happier, if not taking the treatment-oriented approach of hearing loss only but strengthening the education needed for the maintenance and the management of healthy hearing at their work place, where 50 and 60 generations' workforce has been increased.

  • As Korean society grows rapidly older, a systematic analysis of the determinants of labor supply behavior among the elderly becomes a prerequisite for designing more effective senior employment policies and income security regime for the elderly. Literatures review shows that a majority of previous researches have been ignoring the problem of "endogenous predictor" especially when it comes to the estimation of the effects of the two key variables, education and non-labor income, on labor supply decisions among older people. They have failed to take into consideration the unobserved heterogeneities which might affect both labor supply decisions of the elderly and their levels of education and non-labor income, which means, according to some econometric literatures, that the estimated coefficients of the two predictors can be inconsistent. The paper tries to redress the endogeneity problem by employing a panel logit model with data from the 1st. to 4th. wave of the KLoSA(Korean Longitudinal Survey of Ageing) to estimate the effects of key predictors on the probability of getting jobs among older people(ages of 60 or older). Both a random effects and a fixed effects model reaffirms that non-labor income has a negative effect on the chances of being employed. And a random effects model shows that the effect of education is also negative, as has frequently been reported by previous studies. That means the effects of education and non-labor income on elderly employment remain negative after the effect of unobserved heterogeneities is controled for and the problem of endogenous predictors is redressed through an appropriate panel data analysis. These findings mean, in turn, that when Korean baby-boomers, who had acquired an unprecedentedly higher level of education and were expected to enjoy ever-larger amount of non-labor income than their preceding generations, retires in near future, their incentives to work will become much weaker and the lack of labor-force and the burden of financing increased public pension expenditure will become more troublesome. The paper concludes with recommending some policy initiatives helpful to solve these expected problems.

  • This study aimed to make clear the education process, from antenatal training to early childhood education, of Joseon Royal Family. Centered on the successors to the throne and reviewed also the education of other Royal Family members, this study carried out comparative analysis on them. Antenatal training is pregnant woman's essential physical and mental attitude. It is indispensable to the health and good nature of unborn baby. Antenatal training had been based on the theory of Oriental medical science that fetus can sympathize what mother see and feel. Such theory, combined with Confucian self-culture theory, had taken very important position in Confucianism. Not to speak of Royal Family, noble family regarded antenatal training very essential as beginning of education and root of nature formation. For firstborn son and firstborn grandson, Boyangcheong (輔養廳, special nursery agency) was set up before their age became three, but not for other sons and grandsons of Royal Family. When firstborn son or firstborn grandson grew up to read letters, Ganghakcheong (講學廳) was set up for their early education. Other sons of king also learned in their early ages at Ganghakcheong while other grandsons of king learned at Gyohakcheong (敎學廳). Education courses were almost same between successors and non-successors but there were wide difference in the ranks of their tutors; firstborn son's tutor marked 2nd Jeong(正) class, firstborn grandson's tutor marked 2nd Jong(從) class and other royal sons' tutors were just 9th Jong(從) class.

  • Globally, the baby boomer generation is economically retired, and the MZ generation is emerging as a new economic force. This study demonstrated the effect of service quality on user satisfaction and customer loyalty for IT services, and checked whether it had a moderating effect on the MZ generation's perception of service quality and its effect on user satisfaction. In addition, we tried to find implications for service satisfaction of the MZ generation. For this purpose, valid responses were obtained from 496 members of companies receiving IT services from Company A. then, a hierarchical regression analysis were performed to verify the hypothesis. As a result of the analysis, the influence relationship between service quality, user satisfaction, and customer loyalty was confirmed, similar to the results of previous studies, and it was confirmed that the negative moderating effect of lower perception of user satisfaction through interaction. Therefore, it can be suggested that there is a need to develop a new digital-based service that can share and sympathize with special experiences, consumption values and beliefs. In the future, if research is conducted on a variety of consumers, it will be possible to more accurately explore the service perception of the MZ generation.

  • The purpose of this study was to conduct pan play counseling that contains Korean cultural characteristics to see if it affects college students' anxiety reduction in coronavirus situations. Counseling was conducted for 40 minutes once a week. The associations of participants were recorded for each session. The score of anxiety test decreased in the participants' pre-and post-anxiety tests. The effectiveness of pan play counseling was verified. Case analysis applied phenomenological research method. Structural decisions through case analysis were in the order of regression, expression, differentiation, and integration. In the results of case analysis, participants feel confused through encounters in the early stages and regress unconsciously. Emotions of negativity that could not be erupted in the expression structure appear as consciousness, and the participants awaken. Participants expressed emotions such as fear, anxiety, loneliness, anger, and irritation. Consciousness of the unconscious causes a transformation of ego. The ego gains discernment as the great drama emerges from the differentiated structure. In other words, it builds confidence. The goal of counseling is to reinforce the ego, realizing the potential to overcome anxiety. In the last integration's structure, a wedding, a baby, and a old wise man appeared, showing that a transformation took place. In the results of this study, it was verified that pan play counseling has a healing effect. This study is expected to serve as an opportunity to develop Korean counseling techniques that incorporate Korean culture.

  • Fusarium wilt, caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum (Fon) is a serious disease in watermelon cultivation. Most of commercialized watermelon cultivars to Fusarium wilt are susceptible in Korea. Fon isolates were divided into four races (races 0, 1, 2, and 3), based on pathogenicity in four watermelon differentials including 'Sugar baby', 'Charleston gray', 'Calhoun gray' and 'PI-296341-FR'. We obtained 7 isolates of Fon and tested to determine race of the fungal strains. Fon KACC 40902 and Fon HA were race 0 and Fon NW1, Fon NW2, Fon CW and Fon KACC 40901 were race 1. And Fon KACC 40905 was race 2, but race 3 isolate of Fon was not founded. We also tested virulence of seven Fon isolates on three-susceptible cultivars of watermelon. The isolates showed different virulence on the cultivars. In addition, to study the resistance characteristics of watermelon to Fon, we selected three moderately or highly resistant cultivars of watermelon and occurrence of Fusarium wilt in seedlings of the cultivars by seven Fon isolates was investigated. Among them, 'Calhoun gray' is highly resistant to six Fon isolates except Fon KACC 40905. On the other two cultivars, disease severity of Fusarium wilt caused by each isolate was positively correlated with the virulence of the Fon isolates. The results suggest that resistance of the watermelon cultivars to Fon isolates is likely affected by the virulence of the pathogen.

  • This paper tried an approach of oral literature as the research subject of Soeburi song in Ulsan. First, UlsanSoeburi song is meaningful as materials collected in Ulsan such as Hansil, Dodoekgol, Dudong and Byeongueong. In addition, it is related to regional identity as song native to Ulsan, which has prototype and archetype. And it shows that Ulsan is the city as well as hometown of Soeburi(meaning ' iron manufacture'). The characteristics of lyrics are different between Hansil Soeburi song and Dodeokgol Soeburi song. Jeiman Choi is considered as a good oral literature poet, because he is a performer who is faithful in official structural principal and in original lyrics(archetype) of Soeburi song. Therefore, SoeburiBulmei song of Jeiman Choi signifies aesthetic meaning, having lyrics which make to feel labor's purity and sacred and melody which overcomes labor's difficulty through united action. On the other hand, SoeburiBulmei song of Dalo Kim in Doseokgol shows that he is a extemporaneous performer even though he performs based on official structural principal. In this paper, transmission and changes of UlsanSoeburi song are divided into basic type, frequent shift type and overall type. 'Basic type' originates from Jeiman Choi's Soeburi song in Hansil. 'Frequent shift type' was created by combining SoeburiBulmei song of Dalo Kim in Doseokgol and SoeburiGeumjul song in Ulsan. 'Overall type' is current Soeburi song, which was created by adding Bulmei song for lulling a baby in Byeongueong near Dalcheon region and Seoknyanggan(smithy) Bulmei song. UlsanSoeburi song is being passed down continuously, strengthening the identity as a representative folk song in Ulsan through endless process of transmission and changes.

  • Akey factor in evolution is reproduction, which is also a major concern in medicine. Evolutionists have proposed many theories and hypotheses to explain the low fertility rates of modern industrial societies, which are contrary to maximization of biological fitness. Given that childbirth is the most significant factor affecting reproductive fitness, it is likely that a variety of psychological modules related to childbirth behavior and intention evolved over time. Several evolutionary psychological modules have been proposed in relation to reproduction, including sexual desire, status-seeking, a need for nurturing, and the desire for children. Previously adaptive psychological modules may now be expressed maladaptively due to the discrepancy between the Environment of Evolutionary Adaptedness (EEA) and the environment of modern industrial society. Several evolutionary ecological factors influence childbirth intention in modern society, including individual personality factors, childhood life history experiences, and socioecological factors throughout reproductive life. By focusing on mental, social, and ecological factors, this review examines several hypothetical models relating to evolutionary psychological factors and childbirth decisions in modern industrial society, as well as a possible explanation for the low birth rate.

  • This study investigated how COVID-19 imparted the fashion expenditure of households in Korea. During the COVID-19 pandemic, the ratio of fashion expenditure to household income and the ratio of fashion expenditure to household consumption expenditure were estimated using secondary data of national statistics. The household income and expenditure data in Korea were extracted from 2018 to 2021. The household was categorized by generations such as gen Z, gen M, gen X, Baby Boomer, and Silent generation, and the household income status was identified by the income quintile. The outcome revealed that the ratio of fashion usage expenditure to income decreased following COVID-19 equated to before COVID-19 and revealed the significant differences by income quintile. The ratio of fashion consumption to household expenditure significantly differed between the pre-COVID-19 and the post-COVID-19. The difference in the ratio of fashion consumption to household expenditure was important by generations, and it was not affirmed by the income quintile.
