저작은 기본적으로 Brain system의 central pattern generator(CPG)에 의해 조절되며, CPG로 부터 target 기관까지의 출력(output)은 oral sensory feedback에 의해 변형된다. 전치부 반대교합은 이 feedback mechanism에 영향을 미치어 muscle activity와 jaw movement를 바꾼다. 본연구는 정상교합자와 전치부 반대교합자의 muscle activity와 jaw movement pattern의 차이를 알고자 시행하였다.대상은 각각 성인남녀 30명씩으로 하였으며 측정은 Biopak system의 EMG와 EGN을 사용하여 얻은 결과는 다음과 같다. 1. Resting시 실험군이 정상군보다 모든 근육(좌측 악이복근 제외)에서 높은 근활성도를 보였다. 2. Clenching시는 정상군과 실험군간의 유의차가 없었다.(우측 악이복근 제외) 3. Swallowing시는 정상군이 좌우측 교근과, 우측 후측두근 에서 실험군보다 높은 근활성도를 보였다. 4. 최대 개폐구속도는 정상군이 실험군보다 큰 값을 보였다. 5. 최대개구량과 최대전후방운동량 및 측방변위량은 정상군이 실험군보다 큰 값을 나타냈다.

본 연구의 목적은 기능성 및 골격성 전치부 반대교합 환자에 대한 형태학적 차이점을 비교하는 것이다. 전치부의 기능성 반대교합을 보이는 28증례와 골격성 반대교합을 보이는 31증례를 각각 실험군과 대조군으로 삼았다. 실험군과 대조군의 평균연령은 $9.6{\pm}1.8$세와$9.9{\pm}1.9$세이었다. 측모두부방사선 사진을 촬영하였으며 두 군간의 형태학적 차이를 비교하기 위해 49개 항목에 대한 계측 및 통계학적인 분석을 시행하였다. 계측항목 중 cranial deflection, maxillary depth, ANB, convexity, NPo-AB, APDI, Mx 1-SN, Mx 1-NA angle, Mx 1-NA, Md 1-NB angle and Md 1-NB에서 통계학적인 유의차가 나타났다. 실험군에서는 Class III로의 성장 가능성, 상악골의 전방위치, 상하악골간의 전후방적 부조화 감소, 상악 중절치의 후퇴, 직립 및 하악 중절치의 전돌, 순측경사를 보였다.

The author evaluated the effect of wunderer activator and karwetzky's u-bow activator for correction of anterior and posterior cross bite and mandibular shift to the Rt. or Lt. side. The results were as follows. 1. correction of anterior and posterior cross bite. 2. correction of mandibular shift to the unilateral side. 3. slightly down and backward rotation of mandible was occured.

Skeletal class III malocclusion with aterior deep bite is difficult to manage properly, especially in case of mild mandibular prognathism. We have designed lower anterior segmental osteotomy for improving the lower third of the facial contour. Considerable improvement of esthetic facial contour with correction of cross bite in anterior incisors was observed in patients with mandibular prognathism.

A patient (Hellman dental age IIIA) who had anterior cross bite due to functional factor was treated with activator. Following results were obtained: 1) Anterior cross bite was crorrected 3 months after the initial application of the appliance. 2) Comparing pretreatment records with posttreatment, the main effects were labioversion of upper incisors, increase of upper arch length and downward-backward rotation of the mandible. 3) There was no damage on teeth and periodontal tissues and the patient had normal occlusion 1 year after the treatment.

Orthodontists want why the patients want orthodontic treatment. Demand and need for orthodontics is very important factors of cooperation and management. Chief complaint would be different according to the race and culture. Our results show that in the control group, Korean female adolescents[chief complaint is cowding$(30.6\%)$, spacing$(26.5\%)$, upper anterior protrusion$(18.4\%)$, anterior cross bite$(8.2\%)$ in order. Korean female adolescents considered anterior cross bite is more nonacceptable than spaeing and anterior protrusion. The purpose of orthodontics seemed to enhance esthetic, dental health, and to improve oral function.

The patient, 16 years female, complained of anterior cross-bite and retrusion of maxilla. Mandibular incisors occluded labially to maxillary incisors. Normally developed mandibular arch in normal elation to facial line, S-N-Pog was within normal range. Cross-bite of anterior teeth was corrected by means of Class III elastics under multibanded system. Space for alignment of crowding of upper anterior teeth was regained by means of cervical headgear and sliding yoke. She gained good alignment of anterior teeth and attractive facial profile after 2 years.

A girl (Hellman dental age IIC) with anterior cross bite was treated by means of the chincap and occlusal equilibration on deciduous canines. Following results were obtained; 1) The cross bite was corrected after 12 weeks of active treatment. 2) The terminal plane of deciduous molars had become 'a class II tendency' 3) The axial inclination of lower incisors were changed significantly.

FR III에 의해 전치부 반대교합이 개선된 성장기 반대교합자 7명을 대상으로 치료전과 전치부 반대교합개선 즉시의 측모두부방사선 규격사진 및 모형을 분석 검토한 결과를 다음과 같이 요약할 수 있으나, 악골형태, 성장형태, 부정교합상태등에 따라 아주 다양한 결과를 나타내어 FR III에 의한 악안면의 변화를 한마디로 요약하는 것은 상당히 힘든 것으로 사료된다. 1. 상악골은 미약한 전상방으로의 회전 경향과 전방성장을 보였다. 2. 하악골은 개체간의 차이는 있으나 미약한 수직적 위치변화와 함께 하안면고가 증가되었다. 3. 상악전치는 치체이동 또는 순측경사되었다. 4. 모든 증례에서 하악전치는 설측경사를 보였다. 5. 상악치열궁 폭경은 증가되었으며, 하악치열궁 폭경은 개체간의 차이는 있으나 대체적으로 거의 변화되지 않았다.
