Rapid social change affects residential environments and this in turn creates new stimuli to which people have to adapt. These stimuli have been seen to increase stress levels. Therefore, dwellers in these environments try to reduce stress through various methods. The purpose of this paper is to: 1) identify the general trends of coping styles about residential environmental stress, 2) analyze the differences in socio-demographic characteristics and how the physical characteristics of buildings affect stress, find out how personal backgrounds affect stress levels and the ability to get rid of environmental-related stress. The subjects in this study consisted of people living in multi-family housing in Gwang-ju. The city is divided into 5 districts and used quota sampling. 324 housewives were surveyed from the households by self-administered questionnaires. The survey was conducted in December, 2006, after the questionnaire was revised based on the results of preliminary survey. After all the questionnaires were collected, the data was coded and analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 program.
Purpose: This study aimed to investigate the difference between primary caregivers' self-efficacy and coping strategy according to the communication styles of home care nurses. Methods: Data were collected from 123 primary caregivers of patients who were registered at a home care nursing center in D city and who had been receiving home care for more than 3 months from January 1 to February 27, 2018. The questionnaire included items on communication style, self-efficacy, and stress coping strategy. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Results: Regarding primary caregivers' self-efficacy in terms of communication style, the caregivers showed higher efficacy in providing informative and friendly communication (F=14.07, p=.001). Regarding home care nurses' communication style and the stress coping strategy of the primary caregivers, the informative-friendly communication style was adopted the most for the problem-solving coping strategy (F=7.17, p=.001). Regarding the social support-seeking coping, home care nurses' friendly communication style was the most adopted (F=4.40, p=.014). Conclusion: This study suggests that home care nurses will plan to provide informative and friendly communication-oriented nursing care, and to improve self-efficacy and positively influence the coping method by using the communication styles appropriate to the state of the primary caregiver.
The purpose of this study was to examine the interaction effects on academic stress of gifted student and normal student by academic self-efficacy and stress coping styles. We conducted a questionnaire survey with 100 sixth grade gifted student and 100 normal student who showed academic achievement of the same level. According to the results of this study, gifted student showed higher problem-focused coping than normal student. Both elementary gifted student and normal student, the lower academic self-efficacy and problem-focused coping, the more increased academic stress increased. In the gifted student case where the level of problem-focused coping was high, academic stress was lower when academic self-efficacy was high. Normal student's academic stress was lower when the level of problem-focused coping and academic self-efficacy was higher.
This study attempted to explore the impact of sense of humor and stress coping styles among nursing students on adaptation to clinical practice. The study included 180 nursing students as participants, and data collection was conducted using self-administered questionnaires from April 15 to 26, 2024. The collected data underwent t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson's correlation coefficients, and multiple regression analysis. The research findings revealed that the sense of humor scored 3.52, stress coping styles scored 3.40, and adaptation to clinical practice scored 3.46. Adaptation to clinical practice according to general characteristics showed statistically significant differences based on major satisfaction (F=29.80, p<.001), clinical practice satisfaction (F=40.46, p<.001), relationships with peers in clinical practice (F=5.05, p<.001), and personality (t=-3.41, p<.05). Adaptation to clinical practice showed statistically significant positive correlations with sense of humor (r=.31, p<.001) and stress coping styles (r=.43, p<.001). The factors influencing adaptation to clinical practice were clinical practice satisfaction(β=.34, p<.001), stress coping styles (β=.29, p<.001), and major satisfaction (β=.23, p<.05), explaining 42% of the total variance.
Purpose: The aim of this study is to determine the impact of abuse experience and coping styles on suicidal ideation in Korean elders. Methods: Data were collected from the 2011 Korean National Survey on the Elderly. The participants were 10,537 elders aged 65 or older who had replied to the question on suicidal ideation. Socio-demographic and health related factors, abuse experience, and coping style were included as the influence factors of suicidal ideation. Data were analyzed using ${\chi}^2$-test and logistic stepwise regression with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 program. Results: The prevalence of abuse experience among the elders was 12.7% and that of suicidal ideation was 11.2%. Elders with abuse experience (OR=2.79, 95% CI=2.39~3.26) were more likely to have suicidal ideation but those with an active coping style (OR=0.69, 95% CI=0.57~0.84) were less likely to have suicidal ideation even with other influence factors controlled. Conclusion: Abuse experience of the elderly was a major risk factor that increased suicidal ideation, and active coping style was a protective factor that reduced suicidal ideation. These findings show that careful attention to elderly abuse and education for active coping style are necessary to reduce suicidal ideation among the elderly.

The purpose of this study is to find and compare the differences in stress level, stressor, and coping style of high school students according to their personality traits. And to identify the personality traits contributing to stress reduction. The results of the study can be used as basic data for reducing the stress of adolescents to improve their academic achievement and maintain mental and physical stability. The questionnaire survey was conducted for 10 days from June 7 to June 16, 2017 for S high school students in Chungbuk Province. The study employed four measuring instruments as Ego-gram, Ok-gram, stressor scale, and stress coping type scale. Individual personality traits were classified into ego-states and ok-states in TA (Transactional Analysis). Stressors are classified into 5 categories (school life, home life, human relationship, myself, environment) and stress coping styles are classified into 4 categories (problem-focused coping, social-support coping, feeling-focused coping, hope-thinking coping) used in the previous studies. The collected data were analyzed using T-test, ANOVA, and multiple regression analysis. As a result, the stress level of high school students showed significant differences according to sex, year, grade, sleeping time, personality traits, and coping styles. Personality traits that contributed to the stress increase were NP, AC, 'you positive', 'i negative' and personality trait that contributes to stress reduction is 'you negative.' Therefore, we can judge that individual personality traits have significant effects on stress level, stressor, and coping style and need to find the effective stress management method suitable for individual personality traits using counseling, repetition training, self-suggestion etc.
Purpose : The purpose of this study was to examine the stressors and coping patterns of dental hygiene students in a bid to boost the efficiency of guidance and counseling. Subjects and Method : The subjects in this study were 359 dental hygiene students from some colleges. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with SPSS 13.0 program. Statistical data on frequency and percentage were obtained, and ANOVA and t-test were utilized. Findings : 1. The dental hygiene students investigated suffered the most stress with excessive workload, and anxiety about the national examination was the greatest stressor. Among the areas of stressors, school life put the most pressure on them(3.25). 2. The most dominant way for the dental hygiene students to handle stress was talking with friends(4.32). Out of the areas of stress-coping patterns, mental coping was most prevalent(2.94), and the least common stress-coping area was physical coping(2.23). 3. As for the relationship between the place where they were raised and stress-coping styles, physical coping and direct coping were more widespread among the students who were brought up in large urban communities than the others. Conclusion : As the dental hygiene students were different in stress-coping styles according to the place where they were grown, educators who nurture dental hygienists should offer customized education and counseling in consideration of where students were brought up.
The purpose of this study was to examine the influence of the self-control of dental hygiene students on their stress and stress-coping style. The subjects in this study were dental hygiene students who were selected by convenience sampling from three different colleges. After data were gathered, the answer sheets from 561 respondents were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning the level of self-control, the dental hygiene students got a mean of 3.22. As to self-control by grade, the juniors got the highest scores of 3.27 (p<0.05), and those who were under heavier stress were poorer at self-control (p<0.05). 2. In regard to stress-coping style, they got a mean of 3.28 and 3.34 in active coping and passive coping respectively. Passive coping was more prevailing, and the students whose economic status was higher made more use of active coping styles (p<0.001). There were statistically significant differences in active coping styles according to stress level (p<0.01) and the effect of stress on health (p<0.05). 3. Better self-control led to more frequent use of active coping styles. The above-mentioned findings imply that self-control is one of factors to affect stress coping. Therefore the development of counseling programs is required to step up the improvement of self-control.
Purpose: Clinical nurses are at high risk of incurring hospital violence during their working life. Hospital violence and its outcomes have an impact on the job satisfaction, the recruitment and retention of nurses as well as the quality of care delivered to patients. The purpose of this study was to identify coping styles toward hospital violence in clinical nurses using Q-methodology. Methods: Q-methodology, which analyzes the subjectivity of each type of attitude, and coping styles was used. The 40 selected Q-statements from each of 35 participants were classified into the shape of a normal distribution using a 9-point scale. The collected data were analyzed using the pc-QUANAL program. Results: The results revealed four discrete groups of clinical nurses toward hospital violence: take strong action and promote the recurrence prevention, appear psychosomatic symptoms, investigate the cause and focus on prevention, and request hospital assistance and keep up my duty. Conclusion: The findings indicate that development of nursing intervention program based on the four types could beneficially contribute to the violence prevention in hospital.

Purpose: This study aimedto develop a structural equation model on the relationship among ego-resilience, and teaching effectiveness on clinical education, stress coping style, perceived family support, and satisfaction of clinical practice in nursing students in order to increase the satisfaction of clinical practice. Methods: The subjects were 399 undergraduate nursing students enrolled in 7 universities and participating in 10 clinical practice setting areas in 5 cities in South Korea. The research was conducted from December 5th, 2009 to February 20th, 2010. The structural equation model was used to perform the analysis with the statistics program of SPSS win 17.0 and AMOS 5.0. Results: Teaching effectiveness and family support showed a direct effect on satisfaction of clinical practice, while ego-resilience and stress coping styles showed an indirect effect. The biggest total effect on satisfaction of clinical practice was teaching effectiveness followed by family support, ego-resilience, and stress coping styles respectively, which accounted for 50.9%. Conclusion: Based on outcomes of this study, the proposed model allows better understanding of the satisfaction of clinical practice. This result implies that strategies or intervention programs enhancing extrinsic protection factors, motivation factors, and intrinsic protection factors should be considered. In addition, a structural support system for increasing the satisfaction level of clinical practice in nursing students should also be considered.
