  • This study explored the analytical conditions for 21 veterinary antibiotics which have been popularly sold in South Korea in 2014 but have not yet been targeted in EPA method 1694. Most of the selected antibiotics were separated by a reverse-phase C18 column with a combination of (buffered) water and organic polar solvent, which was commonly methanol and acetonitrile in the gradient elution mode. Volatile additives such as formic acid, ammonium acetate and ammonium formate were usually added to the mobile phases to minimize asymmetrical and tailing of antibiotics' peaks and to increase their ionization in mass spectrometry. The analytical methods of aminoglycoside antibiotics were distinct from those of the other antibiotics in terms of adoption of ion-pair chromatography (IPC) and hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC) capable of retaining and separating extremely polar compounds due to their hydrophilicity. Trifluoroacetic acid or heptafluorobutyric acid was frequently added to the mobile phase as an ion-pair reagent for the IPC. Tandem mass spectrometry was numerously applied to the detection of antibiotics using positive electrospray ionization (ESI) and the selected reaction monitoring (SRM) mode. All reviewed analytical methods had been/were validated by evaluating recovery, limits of detection and quantification, decision limit or detection capability of the methods.

  • In this research, first of all, the analytical methods for the determination of major elements in sediment have been developed with ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry). The analytical results of major elements (Al, Ca, K, Fe, Mg) with Cool ICP-MS were much better than those with normal ICP-MS. The analytical results were compared with those of NAA (Neutron Activation Analysis). NAA were a little superior to ICP-MS for the determination of major elements in sediment as a non-destructive trace analytical method. The analytical methods for the determination of minor elements (Cr, Ce, U, Co, Pb, As, Se) have been also developed with ICP-MS. The analytical results by standard calibration curve with ICP-MS were not accurate due to the matrix interferences. Thus, the internal standard method was applied, then the analytical results for minor elements with ICP-MS were greatly improved. The analytical results obtained by ICP-MS were compared with those obtained by NAA. It showed that the two analytical methods have great capabilities for the determination of minor elements in sediments. Accordingly, the NAA will play an important role in analysis of environment sample with complex matrix. ICP-MS also will play an important role because it has a great capability for the determination of Pb that could not be determined by NAA.

  • In this paper the dynamic behavior of a viscoelastic Timoshenko beam subjected to a concentrated moving load are studied analytically and numerically. The viscoelastic properties of the beam obey the linear standard model in shear and incompressible in bulk. The governing equation for Timoshenko beam theory is obtained in viscoelastic form using the correspondence principle. The analytical solution is based on the Fourier series and the numerical solution is performed with finite element method. The effects of the material properties and the load velocity are investigated on the responses by numerical and analytical methods. In addition, the results are compared with the Euler beam results.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new mehtod to analyze the performance degradation by timing jitters in the APD (avalanche photodiode) receivers of intensity modulation/direct detection digital optical communication systems where raised cosine pulse-shaping filters are used to reduce the effect of noise while minimizing intersymbol interferences. The proposed analytical method is an extension of an analytical method we have already developed for pin diode receivers, and incorporates the effects of APD's multiplication factor and resulting shot noise. Using the proposed analytical method, we derive an approximated power penalty due to timing jitters based on an assumption of Gaussian distribution for timing jitters, and compare with that of the conventional analytical method. The results obtained from the proposed analytical method show that conventional analytical methods underestimate the influence of timing jitters on the reciver performance. The results also show that APD's multiplication factor which optimizes receiver sensitivity is smaller than that obtained by the conventional analytical method.

  • Estimation of loads on tunnel lining is one of the major issues to be addressed in the design of a tunnel. The existing analytical methods do not consider important details of construction and the variation of geology along the tunnel axis. The measured loads obtained from several sanitary and subway tunnels in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada, are compared with the lining loads calculated using the existing analytical methods. However, the existing methods are determined to be not fully satisfactory for the estimation of lining loads. To account for face and heading effects occurring prior to lining installation, the stress reduction factor determined using Eisenstein and Negro's method is used coupled with an analytical solution for calculation of lining loads.

  • A comparison is made of the temperature distribution and heat loss from a trapezoidal profile fin using two different 3-dimensional methods. These two methods are analytical and finite difference methods. In the finite difference method 78 nodes are used for a fourth of the fin. A trapezoidal profile fin being the height of the fin tip is half of that of the fin base is chosen arbitrarily as the model. One of the results shows that the relative error in the total convection heat loss obtained by using 78 nodes in the finite difference method as compared to the heat conduction through the fin root obtained by analytic method seems to be good (i.e., -3.5%

  • To detect islanding mode when the grid is being tripped is a major safety issue in the Utility Interactive Distributed Generation (UIDG) system. In this paper, analytical design method is suggested for AFD & RPV method under IEEE929-2000 recommended islanding test condition. We have discussed that there is a same point. we injected reactive component of the current by AFD & RPV methods, but the current reference generated is other waveform. Possible if amount of reactive components in this methods are same each method, there is happened same rates frequency variation. To verify the validity of the analytical comparison, this paper presents simulation and experimental results from single phase, 3[kW] inverter for the transformerless UIDG system.

  • Extraction methods and instrumental analytical conditions were compared to establish a fast and appropriate analytical method to determine saikosaponins in Bupleurum falcatum. Using HPLC, analysis of diene-saikosaponin treated with 2% acid was faster than that of saikosaponin itself. Among various extraction methods, extraction by standing in methanol at room temperature showed highest efficieny, and extraction with boiling methanol was shorter in analytical time and showed good chromatogram. And we could analyze many samples faster using HPTLC but the analytical accuracy was low. In extraction and analysis of saikosaponins, extraction with boiling methanol and acidic treatment was fast and easy analytical method. And for selecting useful lines in component breeding, we think TLC method was better.
