As sugar and amino acid were added to the ascorbic acid solution the content of ascorbic acid was quantitatively determined by 2, 4-dinitrophenyl hydrazine method. The residual ascorbic acid was shown to increase slightly when sorbose, rhamnose or mannose was added to the ascorbic acid solution whereas residual ascorbic acid was shown to decrease in time to the addition of other sugars. The effects of amino acid to the ascorbic acid solution were found that monoamino-mono, or dicarboxylic acids and aromatic amino acids increased the residual ascorbic acidity whereas diamino-monocarboxylic acids and sulfur containing amino acids decreased the residual ascorbic acidity.

The purpose of this study was to test the stability of TPN basic solutions containing amino acids and dextrose. Test solutions containing $4.25\%$ amino acids in $25\%$ dextrose (central TPN basic solution) or $4.25\%$ amino acids in $10\%$ dextrose (peripheral TPN basic solution) were prepared. Two different amino acids solutions $(Fravasol^{(R)}\;vs\;Freamine^{(R)})$ were tested. The samples were taken from each admixture and stored in the evacuated, sterile containers at $2{\sim}8^{\circ}C$ and ambient room temperature. Each sample was analyzed at 0, 3, 7, 14 and 30 days of storage. Each amino acid was analyzed by amino acid analyzer. Dextrose content was measured by polarimeter. The pH and chromagen formation were also monitored. The decomposition was measured by the changes in concentration of amino acids and dextroser TPN basic $solution-Freamine^{(R)}$ admixture stored at $2\sim8^{\circ}C$ were stable for 30 days. Central and peripheral TPN basic solutions stored at room temperature were stable for 7 days and 14 days, respectively. There were no changes in color for 30 days by naked eye. Amino acid concentrations in TPN basic $solution-Fravasol^{(R)}$ admixture stored at $2\sim8^{\circ}C$ or room temperature were stable for 30 days. But, significant color change was detected according to passing time. In conclusion, Peripheral TPN basic $solution-Fravasol^{(R)}$ admixture stored at room temperature and in refrigerator were stable for 3 days and 7 days, respectively. However, central TPN basic solution-Fravasol admixtures were unstable. Therefore, it is recommended that it should be admixed right before use.

The nitrogen sparing effect of intravenous 3% amino acid solution was compared with 5% dextrose solution in 30 patients who were undergoing surgical operations or radiation therapy. Infusion of 3% amino acid solution or 5% dextrose solution was given before and immediately after operations or irradiation and continued for 6 days. Infusion of solutions through peripheral vein was well tolerated and not experienced any specific hematologic or blood chemistry change in all patients subjected throughout the experiment. The patients received 3% amino acid solution showed low blood glucose and insulin level, but significantly high blood urea nitrogen and ketone body. In patients receiving amino acids, as compared with those receiving dextrose, mean cumulative six day nitrogen losses were significantly lower($63.95{\pm}2.12$ Gm and $79.12{\pm}2.43Gm$ respectively). The nitrogen sparing effect of amino acids is probably due to decreased glucose and insulin levels allowing greater endogenous fat mobilization.
The separation of inorganic salt from amino acid solution using was performed electrodialysis. In order to review the availability of electrodialysis using isoelectric point of amino acid as a bio-separation technique, electrodialysis stacks were designed using ion exchange membrane. Separation of NaCl from amino acid solution was performed in the condition similar to amino acid fermentation process. To obtain otimum conditions of separation, leakage of amino acid depending of pH and limiting current density were measured. On the basis of optimum condition, removal of NaCl and leakage of amino acid were investigated quantitatively in batch and continuous process, and current efficiencies were also obtained. As a result of batch experiment for 11 hours each amino acid solution, removal efficiencies of NaCl were in the ranges of 96.1~96.2%. Amino acid leakage rate of glycine, methionine, alanine were 2.5, 1.7, 2.0% respectively. Current efficiencies were in the ranges of 44.5~44.6%. As a result of continuous experiment in various flow rate of each amino acid solution, it took 120 ~ 150 min to reach to steady state. Removal efficiency of NaCl was increased as the flow rate was decreased, but current efficiency was decreased. At the steady states, there were no leakage of amino acid.
The changes in the levels of total soluble protein and some free amino acids were investigated in germinating brown rice. Nongerminated (N) brown rice was germinated for 72 hrs by applying following solutions: 1) distilled water (W), 2) 50 ppm chitosan in 5 mM lactic acid (CL), and 4) 50 ppm chitosan in 5 mM glutamic acid (CG). The level of total soluble protein was higher in the N extract than those of W, CL and CG. Alanine levels were enhanced and aspartic acid levels were decreased significantly in the germinated brown rice, highest increases of alanine were found in the CG germinated brown rice. The levels of serine, decreased during germination in solutions W and CL, were increased significantly by germination in CG solution. The levels of essential amino acids, such as Iysine, isoleucine and methionine were also increased significantly by germination in CG solution. Our results show that the germination of brown rice with CG solution can significantly increase the levels of alanine and some other essential amino acids and can restore the serine level.
For the study of possibility of practical use as an organic farm materials of the mixtures with lignite and amino acid solution, this experiment was carried out to investigate the effects of the mixtures on the growth and the yield of rice plant, chinese cabbage, and red pepper, and the effects of the mixtures on chemical properties of soil. Also, when the mixtures of the lignite plus amino acid solution and the chemical fertilizer were applied to these three crop cultivation area, authors want to know how can the loss in quantity of chemical fertilizer affects the growth and the yield of these crops. As the results, growth of rice plant applied with the mixtures of lignite and amino acid solution was better than that applied with the recommended rate of chemical fertilizer. Especially, the growth of rice plant appeared to be good at the treatment of 150 kg/ha of the mixed lignite with amino acid solution and at that of its mixtures and standard fertilization. Growth of chinese cabbage and red pepper was good at the application of 600 kg/ha of the mixed lignite with amino acid solution and at that of its mixtures and standard fertilization. Yield of rice and chinese cabbage was good at the treatment of 150 kg/ha of the mixed lignite with amino acid solution and at that of its mixtures and standard fertilization, and yield of red pepper was good at the application of 600 kg/ha of the mixed lignite with amino acid solution and at that of its mixtures and standard fertilization. The organic matter content increased and while the exchangeable cation decreased when the lignite mixed with amino acid solution and the loss in quantity of chemical fertilizer applied at paddy field. Incase of these treatments, pH and available phosphorus increase at upland field, but did not change at paddy field.
The changes in the levels of $\gamma$ -aminobutyric acid (GABA) and some free amino acids were investigated in germinating brown rices. Ungerminated brown rices were germinated for 72 hrs by application of the following solutions: 1) distilled water, 2) 50 ppm lactic acid, 3) 5 mM glutamic acid. The GABA levels were enhanced in all germinated states of brown rices compared with ungerminated ones, highest in the germinated brown rices by 5 mM glutamic acid solution. Alanine levels were also enhanced significantly in the germinated brown rices. The levels of aspartic acid and glutamic acid were decreased significantly in all the germinated states. The levels of serine decreased during germination in the solutions of water and lactic acid were increased by the germination in the glutamic acid solution. The data show that germination of brown rices by the application of the glutamic acid solution can significantly increase the levels of GABA and can restore the serine level.
The lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of thermosensitive poly(organophosphazenes) with methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) (MPEG) and amino acid esters as side groups was studied as a function of saccharide concentration in aqueous solutions of mono-, di-, and polysaccharides. Most of the saccharides decreased the LCST of the polymers, and the LCST decrease was more prominently observed by saccharides containing a galactose ring, such as D-galactose, D-galactosamine and D-lactose, and also the polysacccharide, 1-6-linked D-dextran effectively decreased the LCST of the polymers. Such an effect was discussed in terms of intramolecular hydrogen bonding of saccharides in polymer aqueous solution. The saccharide effect was found to be almost independent on the kinds of the amino acid esters and MPEG length of the polymers. Such a result implies that the polymer-saccharide interaction in aqueous solution is clearly influenced by the structure of sacchardes rather than by that of the polymers. The acid saccharides such as D-glucuronic and D-lactobionic acid increased the LCST, which seems to be due to their pH effect.
Phosphate-solubilizing activities of the two strains (Burkholderia sp. DA23 and Klebsiella sp. DA7l-1) against tri-calcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite were quantitatively determined. Two strains were found to solubilize two types of insoluble phosphate different amounts of amino acid solutions in liquid culture. MPS ability of the strains was increased with concentration of amino acid addition. The optimal solubilization condition of insoluble phosphate in sucrose minimal medium were 0.1% amino acid solution, respectively. The efficiency of amino acid addition was no difference between the two types of insoluble phosphate, tri-calcium phosphate and hydroxyapatite.
Hydroponic cultivation, in which crops are grown without soil and are unaffected by the weather, has many advantages over conventional soil cultivation. The crop's growth can be further accelerated by using nutrient solution in place of water. This study investigated the growth and physicochemical properties of hydroponic barley sprouts under various nutrient solution and artificial light treatments. The shoot, root, and total plant length increased over time, with the fastest growth occurring in the nutrient solution and light-emitting diode (LED) treatments. Fresh and dry plant weights were higher in the fluorescent lamp treatment than in the LED treatment. Barley sprout powder color differed slightly by treatment, with the Hunters L value ranging from 50.79 to 53.77; Hunters a value from -6.70 to -4.42; and Hunters b value from 13.35 to 14.76. The Hunters L and Hunters b values were highest in the LED treatment, whereas the Hunters a value was relatively highest in the fluorescent lamp treatment. The total phenol content was higher in the control than in the nutrient solution treatment; however, the total flavonoid content showed the opposite pattern to that of total phenol content, being highest in plants that were grown in nutrient solution. The Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity (TEAC) was higher in the control group than in the nutrient solution group. The ferric ion reducing antioxidant power (FRAP) was higher in the fluorescent treatment group than in the LED treatment group. The total amino acid composition ranged from 106.82 to 122.63 mg/g dry powder, with the essential amino acid composition ranging from 47.01 to 56.19 mg/g, and non-essential amino acid composition from 67.86 to 77.66 mg/g. The most frequently detected compositional amino acid was aspartic acid, followed by glutamic acid, alanine, leucine, and valine.
