  • Recently, there has been an increase in the use of Automatic Identification Systems. Class A AIS is used for ships engaged in international voyages, while Class B AIS is utilized for smaller vessels navigating domestic coastlines. AtoN AIS is used for aids to navigation, AIS is employed for search and rescue aircraft, and AIS-SART is widely used worldwide. Accordingly, in 2022, the Maritime Safety Committee(MSC) of the International Maritime Organization(IMO) revised the performance standards for the satellite emergency positioning radio beacon(EP IRB) to include AIS signals along with 121.5 MHz for aircraft, which has been used as a homing signal. It was recommended to use together as a homing signal, and from July 1, 2022, it was decided that AIS-EP IRB that satisfies the revised performance standards will replace the existing EP IRB. Consequently, starting from July 1, 2022, it was decided that AIS-EPIRB, which meets the revised performance standards, will replace the existing EP IRB. This paper aims to verify the feasibility of implementing AIS-EPIRB, which has not yet been developed domestically. To achieve this, a dedicated chipset for AIS was used to additionally implement frequency generation of 161.975 MHz and 162.025 MHz and GMSK modulation to satisfy the requirements.

  • Rapid change in the technological environment of marine transportation and the development of the ocean shipping industry have fostered a revolution in the port system. This in turn has caused major changes in the function and use of port in Korea. Aside from this. Mokpo Port, however continues to decline, because the existing port facilities and related subsystem are already obsolete with no chance of regaining operational effectiveness and treatment for proper implementation. Although a few studies have been done on the Mokpo Port, has not been found, any reseach for the analytical approach to the transportation system of it. This paper aims to make an extensive analysis of the physical distribution system in Mokpo Port focusing on the coordination of subsystems such as navigational aids system, quay handling and transfer system, storage system and inland transport system. The base of introduced simulation tool here is the queueing theory. The overall findings are as follows; 1. Among those vessels called at Mokpo Port in 1994, the average size of oceangoing vessels is 4,922.1 G/T, and the domestic is 317.8 G/T. The average arrival interval and service time of the domestic vessels are 6.0 hours and 24.1 hours respectively marking the berth occupation rate over 100%. Those for oceangoing vessels are 34.5 hours, 120.0 hours and 37.2%. In order to maintainin the berth occupation rate to 70% the capacity considering the 1994 of domestic piers must be extended to 145% and oceangoing vessels must be increased to 165% year called. 2. The capacity of approaching channel is enough to handle the total traffic volume. 3. Tugs are sufficiently being provided to handle all ships requiring their services 4. The capacity of storage and inland transportation systems are sufficient to handle the throughput and the yard stroage utilization rate of No.1 $\cdots$ No.5 is 4.5% and No.6 1S 30% of 1993's. 5. • This paper describes a automatic video surveillance system(AVSS) with long range and 360$^{\circ}$ coverage that is automatically rotated in an elevation over azimuth mode in response to the TTM(tracked target message) signal of vessels tracked by ARPA(automatic radar plotting aids) radar. This AVSS that is a video security and tracking system supported by ARPA radar, CCTV(closed-circuit television) camera system and other sensors to automatically identify and track, detect the potential dangerous situations such as collision accidents at sea and berthing/deberthing accidents in harbor, can be used in monitoring the illegal fishing vessels in inshore and offshore fishing ground, and in more improving the security and safety of domestic fishing vessels in EEZ(exclusive economic zone) area. The movement of the target vessel chosen by the ARPA radar operator in the AVSS can be automatically tracked by a CCTV camera system interfaced to the ECDIS(electronic chart display and information system) with the special functions such as graphic presentation of CCTV image, camera position, camera azimuth and angle of view on the ENC, automatic and manual controls of pan and tilt angles for CCTV system, and the capability that can replay and record continuously all information of a selected target. The test results showed that the AVSS developed experimentally in this study can be used as an extra navigation aid for the operator on the bridge under the confusing traffic situations, to improve the detection efficiency of small targets in sea clutter, to enhance greatly an operator s ability to identify visually vessels tracked by ARPA radar and to provide a recorded history for reference or evidentiary purposes in EEZ area.

  • The group CSD (GCSD) multiplier was recently proposed based on the variation of canonic signed digit (CSD) encoding and partial product sharing. This multiplier provides an efficient design when the multiplications are performed only with a few predetermined coefficients (e.g., FFT). In many DSP applications such as FFT, the (2W-1)-bit product obtained from W-bit multiplicand and W-bit multiplier is quantized to W-bits by eliminating the (W-1) least-significant bits. This paper presents an error compensation method for a fixed-width GCSD multiplier that receives a W-bit input and produces a W-bit product. To efficiently compensate for the quantization error, the encoded signals from the GCSD multiplier are used for the generation of error compensation bias. By Synopsys simulations, it is shown that the proposed method leads to up to 84% reduction in power consumption and up to 79% reduction in area compared with the fixed-width modified Booth multiplier.

  • In this study, a Vessel Shore Report Management System (VSRMS) is developed for the International Maritime Organization (IMO), Maritime Service Portfolio (MSP) Number 8, which comprises vessel shore reporting. Several documents have to be completed before the arrival/departure of a vessel at a port, as each national port has its own reporting format and data. The present vessel reporting system is inefficient, time-consuming, and involves excessive paperwork, which results in duplications and errors. To solve this problem, in this study, the vessel reporting formats and data contents of various national ports are investigated, as at present, the reporting documents required by the current IMO standard includes insufficient information which is requested by national ports. Initially, the vessel reporting information of various national ports are collected and analyzed. Subsequently, a database structure for managing vessel reporting data for ports worldwide is devised. To make the transfer of data and the exchange of information of vessel reports much more reliable, efficient, and paper-free, VSRMS, which is a software application for the simplification and facilitation of vessel report formalities, is developed. This application is developed using the latest Microsoft C#.Net Programming Language in the Microsoft Visual Studio framework 4.5. It provides a user interface and a backend MySQL server used for database management. SAP Crystal Reports 2013 is used for designing and generating vessel reports in the original report formats. The VSRMS can facilitate vessel reporting and improve data accuracy through the reduction of input data, efficient data exchange, and reduction of the cost of communication. Adoption of the VSRMS will allow the vessel shore reporting system to be automated, resulting in enhanced work efficiency for shipping companies. Based on this information system and architecture, the consensus of various international organizations, such as the IMO, the International Association of Marine Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities (IALA), the Federation of National Associations of Ship Brokers and Agents (FONASBA), and the Baltic and International Maritime Council (BIMCO), is required so that vessel reporting is standardized internationally.

  • Objective : To compare the accuracy and breach rates of freehand (FH) versus navigated (NV) pedicle screws in the thoracic and lumbar spine in patients with metastatic spinal tumors. Methods : A retrospective review of adult patients who underwent pedicle screw fixation in the thoracic or lumbar spine for metastatic spinal tumors between 2012 and 2018 was conducted. Breaches were assessed based on the Gertzbein and Robbins classification and only screws placed >4 mm outside of the pedicle wall (lateral or medial) were considered breached. Results : A total of 62 patients received 547 pedicle screws (average 8 per patient) - 34 patients received 298 pedicle screws in the FH group and 28 patients received 249 screws in the NV group. There were 40/547 breaches, corresponding to a breach and accuracy rate of 7.3% and 92.7%, respectively. The breach rate was 9.7% in the FH group and 4.4% in the NV group (chi-squared test, p=0.017); this corresponded to an accuracy rate of 90.3% and 95.6%, respectively. Only one patient from the overall cohort (in the FH group) required revision surgery due to a medial breach abutting the spinal cord (1.6% of all patients; 2.9% of FH patients); no patient suffered organ, vessel, or neurological injury from screw breaches. Conclusion : Navigated pedicle screw placement in patients with metastatic spinal tumors has a significantly higher radiographic accuracy compared to the FH technique. However, the revision surgery was low and no patient suffered from clinically-relevant breach. Navigation also offers the advantage of real-time localization of spinal tumors and aids in targeting and resection of these lesions.
