The purpose of this study was to examine the differences of Psycho-social environments by the variables of sex and type of school. Subjects in this study were consisted of 1.011 adolescents drawn from 11 high schools in Cheongiu city and Choeongwon gun. For data analysis. t-test and three-way ANOVA were conducted by SPSSWIN program. This results were as following: Boys' high school students who having romantic partners had lower school adjustment and behavioral adjustment than those without romantic partners. Girls' high school students who having romantic Partners had lower peer relationships and behavioral adjustment than those without romantic partners. Also. regardless of school types. students with romantic Partners had lower school adjustment and behavioral adjustment than those without romantic partners. In an academic high school. students with romantic Partners had negative family relationships. whereas in commercial high school. students with romantic partners had Peer relationships more negatively than those without romantic Partners. This results suggest that adolescents' romantic partners be important factor of social-Psychological development. Especially. romantic partnership would be critical to induce problem behavior such as maladjustment and negative relationships in the environments of family and school.
The purpose of this study was to examine the abuse experience of adolescents in out-of-home care on their psychosocial adjustment and the mediating effects of self-regulation skills. A survey was conducted on the adolescents who resided in the city of Busan and received out-of-home care service. The findings of the study were as follows: First, abuse experience was found to have exerted a negative influence on self-regulation skills. Second, abuse experience was found to have exerted a negative influence on psychosocial adjustment. Third, self-regulation skills were found to have exercised a positive influence on psychosocial adjustment. Fourth, self-regulation skills were found to have had a mediating effect on the relationship between abuse experience and psychosocial adjustment. The findings of this study were of significance in that neglect and emotional abuse should be prevented to promote the psychosocial adjustment of teenagers with abuse experience who are in out-of-home care, and in that the importance of the intervention of counseling programs which could foster the self-regulation skills of adolescents was urged.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the moderating effect of adolescent's perception of interparental conflict and parental acceptance on psychological adjustments(self-esteem, depressive mood). Data were collected using self-administered questionnaire method with 554 middle and high school students. The major results of this research were as follows. First, there were significant differences in interparental conflicts, parental acceptance and psychological adjustments according to adolescents' sex and perceived level of living standard. Second, interparental conflict was negatively correlated with parental acceptance and self-esteem, and were positively related to depressive mood. Parental acceptance was positively related to self-esteem, and was negatively associated with depressive mood. Third, results of multiple regression analyis showed that both indices of psychological adjustments(self-esteem and depressive mood) were influenced by sex, perceived level of living standard, and parental acceptance. Specifically, the most powerful variable affecting psychological adjustments was parental acceptance. Finally, the parental acceptance moderated the influence of interparental.
This study tries to examine the effect of parents' neglect on career identity, and prove the meditating effect of experience satisfaction and school adjustment between the two variables in the times of convergence. For the study, the data from the Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey was analyzed by utilizing the path analysis, and the number of subjects was 391 adolescents. The results are as follows: First, parents' neglect influenced negatively career identity. Second, experience satisfaction and school adjustment had a positive effect on experience satisfaction. Third, parents' neglect directly influenced career identity and its' effect was indirectly mediated by the subjects's experience satisfaction and school adjustment. Therefore, the result of the study can be utilized for theoretical implication and foundation for developing programs to increase career identity.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the factors relating to resilience for adolescents with leukemia and examine the relationship between these factors. Methods: From June to September in 2014, 199 adolescents aged 11 to 21 participated in the study as they visited the out-patient clinic at C university hospital for follow-up care. To verify the predictors and the effects of resilience, uncertainty, symptom distress, perceived social support, spiritual perspective, defensive coping, courageous coping, hope, and self-transcendence were measured. Collected data were analyzed using hierarchical regression analysis with the SAS statistics program. Results: The final regression model showed that courageous coping, hope, and self-transcendence were significant predictors related to resilience in adolescents with leukemia and explained for 63% of the variance in resilience. Conclusion: The findings indicate that adolescent-oriented intervention programs enhancing courageous coping, hope, and self-transcendence should be provide for adolescents with leukemia in order to overcome illness-related stress and support physical, psychological and social adjustment.
The purpose of this study was to verify the effectiveness of sociodrama on adolescents who are maladjusted in school. For this study, nine adolescents were selected from a middle school located in Seoul. The Inventory of School adjustment by Bae Sook-Jin, Buss-Durkee Hostility Inventory(BDHI) and Impulsivity Test by Eysenck were administered. The experiment group acted out a sociodrama twelve times. The first follow-up test was conducted twelve weeks after the pre-test. The second follow-up test was conducted six weeks after first follow-up test. Each time the adolescents acted out a sociodrama their behavior was recorded by a video- camera and then documented by research assistants. Also in order to discover any changes in daily life after sociodrama, an interview survey were done with the adolescents' teachers. The findings were as follows. First, in the initial follow-up test degree of school-maladjustment was less than in the pre-test. Further decreases in the level of maladjustment were noted in the subsequent follow-ups. Therefore, it can be concluded that the performance of sociodramas can reduce school-maladjustment among adolescents and that this reduced level is maintained. Second, the level of hostility discovered in the first follow-up test was less than that in the pre-test, and this level continued to decrease in the following follow-ups. Therefore, we may conclude that sociodrama that reduces adolescent hostility and the reduced levels continue. Finally, the degree of impulse detected in the first follow-up was, once again, less than that of the pre-test, And, as in the other cases, there was a continued decrease in this level. We may therefore conclude that sociodrama does reduce the impulse of adolescents and that this reduction is maintained. This study indicates that sociodrama is an effective method to improve the psychological characters of adolescents who are maladjusted in school. Given the above, a follow up study is suggested.
The purpose of this study was to examine to what extent teenagers accepted sexual relations, and to determine in which way that was affected by their disposition of stimuli, one of the psychological factors, and by their adjustment to school life, one of the environmental factors, as those factors seemed to have impact on that. This study was of descriptive correlational approach, and the subjects were 962 boy and girl students randomly selected from regular and business high schools. The data were collected from May through July 2002, and SPSS win 10.0 program was employed for data analysis. The major findings of this study were as follows; First, the students investigated got a mean of 44.49 marks on school adjustment. Their sensation seeking got an average of 130.10 marks. Their sexual allowance got a mean of 38.90 marks. Second is to regard the influence of their general characteristics on school adjustment, sensation seeking and sexual allowance. school adjustment was significant on gender, grade, career track, religion, school record, economic state, sexual intercourse. Sensation seeking was significant on all of their general characteristics. Sexual allowance was significant on all except economic state. Third, concerning correlation among sexual allowance, school adjustment and sensation seeking, sexual allowance was positively correlated to sensation seeking and negatively to school adjustment. The above-mentioned findings suggested that school adjustment and stimuli pursuit was associated with sexual attitude, and the findings of this study are expected to make any contribution to creating an ideal sexual culture for the youth.
This study investigated contextual characteristics and developmental functions of time spent alone in early adolescence. Participants were 107 6th grade elementary school students. The Experience Sampling Method was used to measure experiences of time spent alone. Findings were that : (1) 2.6% of an early adolescents' daily waking time was involuntarily spent alone and 14.8% was voluntarily spent alone. (2) Psychological states of voluntary time spent alone were more positive than those of involuntary time spent alone, and psychological states of voluntary time spent alone were not significantly different from those of time spent with family members or friends. (3) Experiences during voluntary time spent alone were related to adjustment, suggesting that time spent alone during early adolescence contributes to positive development.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the mediating effects of self-esteem and self-resilience while identifying the relationship between bullying victimization (being bullied) and depression based on a longitudinal study design. Methods: Participants were adolescent cohort of 1,971 middle school students participating in 2013 and 2014 Korean Children and Youth Panel Survey conducted by National Youth Policy Institute. Data were analyzed by Pearson's Correlation and regression. Results: The major findings are as follows. First, self-esteem and self-resilience were positively related to each other and negatively related to depression and bullying victimization. Second, bullying victimization effected the level of depression of adolescents and self-esteem played a mediating role between bullying victimization and depression while self-resilience did not. Conclusion: The results suggest that emotional factors continue to play an important role in promoting psychological adjustment of victims of bullying. Therefore, interventions are more likely to be successful if they focus on emotional skills development of adolescents.
Purpose: The purposes of this study were to check the obesity of middle and high school students in the nation and identify factors influencing their obesity. Methods: The present study is a secondary analysis research that obtained permission to use the primitive data of 10th (2014) Online Survey on Adolescents' Health Behaviors by the Korea Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and analyzed the primitive data according to the purposes. Results: The findings show that the BMI of middle and high school students in the nation was $20.7kg/m^2$ with the obesity and non-obesity group recording $27.0kg/m^2$ and $19.9kg/m^2$, respectively. Factors influencing the obesity of adolescents include gender, grade, educational background of parent, school grades for the last 12 months, satisfaction with sleep, fast food consumption, ramen consumption, intense and muscle exercise three times a week or more, subjective sense of health, stress, suicidal ideation, and hours of Internet usage per week. Conclusion: For the management of adolescent obesity, there is a need for obesity management programs taking the characteristics of male students into consideration. The possibilities of obesity grow according to the grades, which means that both the teachers and parents should offer more guidance on weight control in upper grades. The adjustment of adolescent obesity requires psychological health management including stress and suicidal ideation as well as diet control and exercise.
