This paper proposes a powerful SVM-ASM filter, the adaptive switching median(ASM) filter based on support vector machines(SVMs), to effectively reduce impulse noise in corrupted images while preserving image details and features. The proposed SVM-ASM filter is composed of two stages: SVM impulse detection and ASM filtering. SVM impulse detection determines whether the pixels are corrupted by noise or not according to an optimal discrimination function. ASM filtering implements the image filtering with a variable window size to effectively remove the noisy pixels determined by the SVM impulse detection. Experimental results show that the SVM-ASM filter performs significantly better than many other existing filters for denoising impulse noise even in highly corrupted images with regard to noise suppression and detail preservation. The SVM-ASM filter is also extremely robust with respect to various test images and various percentages of image noise.
In this paper, we propose an efficient document layout analysis algorithm that includes table detection. Typical methods of document layout analysis use the height and gap between words or columns. To correspond to the various styles and sizes of documents, we propose an algorithm that uses the mean value of the distance transform representing thickness and compare with components in the local area. With this algorithm, we combine a table detection algorithm using the same feature as that of the text classifier. Table candidates, separators, and big components are isolated from the image using Connected Component Analysis (CCA) and distance transform. The key idea of text classification is that the characteristics of the text parallel components that have a similar thickness and height. In order to estimate local similarity, we detect a text region using an adaptive searching window size. An improved adaptive run-length smoothing algorithm (ARLSA) was proposed to create the proper boundary of a text zone and non-text zone. Results from experiments on the ICDAR2009 page segmentation competition test set and our dataset demonstrate the superiority of our dataset through f-measure comparison with other algorithms.
This paper proposes actuator fault detection and adaptive fault-tolerant control algorithms using performance index and human-like learning for longitudinal autonomous vehicles. Conventional longitudinal controller for autonomous driving consists of supervisory, upper level and lower level controllers. In this paper, feedback control law and PID control algorithm have been used for upper level and lower level controllers, respectively. For actuator fault-tolerant control, adaptive rule has been designed using the gradient descent method with estimated coefficients. In order to adjust the control parameter used for determination of adaptation gain, human-like learning algorithm has been designed based on perceptron learning method using control errors and control parameter. It is designed that the learning algorithm determines current control parameter by saving it in memory and updating based on the cost function-based gradient descent method. Based on the updated control parameter, the longitudinal acceleration has been computed adaptively using feedback law for actuator fault-tolerant control. The finite window-based performance index has been designed for detection and evaluation of actuator performance degradation using control error.

This paper investigates the network throughput of PLC (Power Line Communication) system in the in-building network. The OFDM (Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing) modulation format and adaptive bit loading algorithm is used to minimize the effect of signal loss and noise on transmission performance in the power line channel characterized by frequency selective fading. The network throughput of the PLC system which consists of gateway and CPE(Customer Premise Equipment) PLC modem in the in-building network is measured by network performance measurement tool, iperf and analyzed according to the TCP (Transmission Control Protocol) window size.

In this parer, an improved backoff algorithm is proposed by supplementing a multiple of persistence factor for IEEE 802.11 Wireless LAN MAC. This algorithm is proposed to complement the shortcomings of the conventional BEB (Binary Exponential Backoff) algorithm which is used for retransmission to control a new contention window in DCF/EDCF MAC. In channel utilization, collision rate and Goodput viewpoint, we analysis the improved backoff algorithm and compared the result with that of the conventional algorithm In this result, we showed that the performance for PFA backoff algorithm is 10% higher than that for the conventional BEB algorithm when the number of station is 40.

Instantaneous Frequency(IF) of Doppler signals is used to get the information of relative velocity and miss distance between a missile and the corresponding target. Though Short-Time Fourier Transform(STFT) is mainly used to estimate IF, it has many errors in wide band signals where frequency changes sharply. Because it has a fixed window in time and frequency axes. This paper deals with IF estimation of Doppler signal using a Continuous Wavelet Transform(CWT) which has adaptive window in time and frequency axes. The proposed method is able to estimate IF regardless of frequency changes because it has a narrow window in high frequency band and a wide window in low frequency band. The experimental results demonstrate that the proposed method outperforms STFT in estimating IF.

We present a area-based method for stereo matching using varying weights. A central problem in a area-based stereo matching is different result from selecting a window size. Most of the previous window-based methods iteratively update windows. However, the iterative methods very sensitive the initial disparity estimation and are computationally expensive. To resolve this problem, we proposed a new function to assign weights to pixels using features. To begin with, we extract features in a given stereo images based on edge. We adjust the weights of the pixels in a given window based on correlation of the stereo images. Then, we match pixels in a given window between the reference and target images of a stereo pair. The proposed method is compared to existing matching strategies using both synthetic and real images. The experimental results show the improved accuracy of the proposed method.
IEEE 802.16e has adopted sleep mode to minimize energy consumption of mobile nodes with high speed mobility. If the Base Station (BS) has no data to be sent to a Mobile Subscriber Station (MSS) at the instant of ending sleep window of the MSS, the MSS increases its sleep window interval by double until the window interval reaches to the maximum sleep window interval. Thus, during the operation of sleep mode, MSS repeatedly performs switch on/off action until there exist frames to be received from BS. The switch on/off operation significantly consumes energy of MSS. To effectively deal with the energy of the MSS, this paper proposes an algorithm which decides the minimum sleep window interval that will be used in next sleep mode based on the current sleep window interval. We evaluate the performance of IEEE 802.16e sleep mode algorithm and our proposed algorithm in terms of energy consumption and blocking probability. Compared with the current sleep mode algorithm used in IEEE 802.16e, the proposed algorithm decreases the energy consumption by about 30% without increasing blocking probability.

We analyze the performance of an adaptive hybrid search code acquisition algorithm for direct-sequence code division multiple access (DS-CDMA) systems under slowly-moving mobile environments. The code acquisition algorithm is designed to provide the desired feature of constant false alarm rate (CFAR) to cope with nonstationarity of the interference in CDMA forward links. An analytical expression for the mean acquisition time is first derived and the probabilities of detection, miss, and false alarm are then obtained for frequency-selective Rayleigh fading environments. The fading envelope of a received signal is assumed to be constant over the duration of post-detection integration (PDI), considering slow fading environments. Finally, the performance of the designed code acquisition algorithm shall be evaluated numerically to examine the effect of some design parameters such as the sub-window size, size of the PDI, decision threshold, and so on, considering cdma2000 environments.
In this paper, a fast 3D model extraction algorithm with an enhanced PBIL of preserving depth consistency is proposed for the extraction of 3D depth information from 2D images. Evolutionary computation algorithms are efficient search methods based on natural selection and population genetics. 2D disparity maps acquired by conventional matching algorithms do not match well with the original image profile in disparity edge regions because of the loss of fine and precise information in the regions. Therefore, in order to decrease the imprecision of disparity values and increase the quality of matching, a compact genetic algorithm is adapted for matching environments, and the adaptive window, which is controlled by the complexity of neighbor disparities in an abrupt disparity point is used. As the result, the proposed algorithm showed more correct and precise disparities were obtained than those by conventional matching methods with relaxation scheme.
