Objectives: The purpose of the study is to find out the effect of part-time employment experience on adaptation to university life in dental hygiene students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 288 dental hygiene students in Seoul and Gyeonggido from September to October, 2014. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects(5 items), part-time employment experience(6 items), and adaptation to university life(53 items). The instrument for adaptation to university life was adapted from Baker and Sirky and modified by Kwon. Likert 5 point scale adaptation included personal emotion adaptation, academic adaptation, social adaptation, and university environment adaptation. Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ was 0.80 in the study. Results: The adaptation to university life was 3.0 points. The higher the economic level was, the higher the personal emotional adaptation(p<0.001) and academic adaptation were(p<0.05). The adaptation to university life was positively influenced by tuition support by parents and part-time employment(p<0.05). The part-time employment was significantly helpful to future job selection, social adaptation, and university environment adaptation(p<0.001). Economic stability and advantage of future job selection had a positive influence on the adaptation to university life. So the adaptation to university life was proportional to younger age, economic stability, and advantage to future job selection. Conclusions: It is very important to give a positive motivation and stimulation, and a careful counseling to the students in part-time employment. In order to encourage the part-time employed students, major-related part-time job opening must be given.
This study investigates the effect of recovery elasticity of beauty college students on university life adaptation during COVID-19. Further, the mediating effect of grit in relation to recovery elasticity and university life adaptation is analyzed. Survey data of 223 students (female: 192; male: 31) were collected for multiple and intermediate regression analyses using SPSS 24.0. The results reveal a static correlation between the lower factors of resilience, glittery, and adaptation to college life and that the resilience of junior college students in the beauty department had a static effect on grit and their adaptation to college life. Passion, a subordinate factor of grit, is mediated by the effect of grit on the relationship between resilience and adaptation to university life. However, perseverance, another subordinate factor of grit, did not have any such mediating effect. These results confirm the importance of grit, particularly passion, for resilience and adaptation to college life. It was confirmed that resilience was due to college life adaptation of beauty department students, and it was confirmed that passion, a sub-factor of grit, also had a mediating effect. Therefore, it is judged that resilience induces physical and mental adaptation, interpersonal adaptation, and academic adaptation necessary for college life, and works in many ways to improve the quality of life of beauty department junior college students. Instructors should consider developing educational programs for improving recovery elasticity and grit to help students better adapt to university life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to describe life stress, life satisfaction, and adaptation of middle-aged women in the menopause period. Methods: The research design was to descriptive study using self-report questionnaires. Participants were 129 middle aged women living at A city. Data were collected from June 1 to June 30 and analyzed using SPSS/WIN program. Results: Significant differences in menopause adaptation were evident on the basis of spouse. There were significant differences in life satisfaction in terms of income. Life satisfaction was positively correlated to menopause period adaptation. Life stress was negatively correlated to menopause period adaptation. Life satisfaction and life stress were accounted for 36.2% in menopause period adaptation of middle-aged women. Conclusion: These results provide evidence of the effects of life stress and life satisfaction of menopause period adaptation.
The purpose of this study was to test the mediated effects of emotional regulation in the relations between maternal parenting and children's adaptation to school life of elementary school students. Three-hundred Seven elementary school students completed the maternal parenting scale, the emotional regulation scale, and the adaptation to school life scale. In order to find to identify how maternal parenting, emotional regulation were related with their adaptation to school life, Pearson correlation coefficients were used in the computation. To examine the effects of maternal parenting, emotional regulation on adaptation to school life, multiple regression analyses were conducted. To examine whether emotional regulation as a mediating variable in the process that maternal parenting is influencing children's adaptation to school life, hierarchical regression analyses were performed. The results of this study were summarized as follows. First, the analysis of the relationship of maternal parenting, emotional regulation with adaptation to school life shows that there is a significant positive correlation between maternal parenting, emotional regulation and adaptation to school life. Second, in the multiple regression analysis with maternal parenting and emotional regulation as a predictor and adaptation to school life as an outcome variable it has been shown that the emotional regulation were significant in adaptation to school life, but maternal parenting were not significant in adaptation to school life. The higher the emotional regulation is the better can children adapt themselves to school life. Third, the analysis on the mediating effects of emotional regulation in the relationship of maternal parenting and adaptation to school life showed that emotional regulation full mediates the relationship of maternal parenting with adaptation to school life.
Purpose: On the basis of the theoretical framework of a combination of Roy's adaptation theory and Lazarus & Folkman's theory of stress - appraise coping, the purpose of this study was to predict effect factors of adaptation to university life of Chinese international students in Korea. After this, a model of adaptation to university life of Chinese international students in Korea was constructed. Methods: A questionnaire was used to survey 369 Chinese international students from one university in Korea, which was analyzed by using PASW Statistics 18.0 and LISREL 8.7. Results: This theoretical model explained adaptation to university life of Chinese international students at 75.0% in Korea. Physical symptoms, loneliness, acculturation stress and self-efficacy directly affected the adaptation to university life. Korean language proficiency indirectly affected adaptation to university life through self-efficacy. Conclusion: Results of this study provided theoretical basis for the future health care of university- centered health centers. For improving adaptation to university life of Chinese international students in Korea, education and nursing measures for reducing physical symptoms, loneliness and acculturation stress, and improving Korean language proficiency and self-efficacy are proposed for further research and development.
The purpose of the study was to identify the mediating effects of health promoting lifestyle in the relationship between life stress and adaptation to college life of health department college students. The data was collected for 10 days form sept. 3 to 14, 2012. Among a total of 351 cases of questionaries, only 342 cases were used. To data were analyzed by frequency, t-test, ANOVA, correlation and a hierarchical multiple regression analysis as suggested by Baron and Kenny(1986) using PASW statistics 18.0. From the analyses, there was a negative relationship between life stress and adaptation to college life but a positive relationship between health promoting lifestyle and adaptation to college life. There was a partial mediating effect of health promoting lifestyle between life stress and adaptation to college life. The results indicate a need to develop programs that effectively promote the health promoting lifestyle of health department college students to decrease life stress and maximize adaptation to college life.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the factors affecting adaptation to school life of freshmen enrolled in nursing at a Junior College. Method: The data were collected from questionnaires filled out by 312 nursing students in two schools at J and I city from March 7-11, 2011. Data were analyzed using the SPSS/WIN18 program. Result: Self-esteem and adaptation to school life were higher than previous advanced research showed, self-efficacy was moderate and stress to school life was lower than other studies. School adaptation level was related to satisfaction of friendship, school life and the nursing program. The subjects who have chosen nursing by themselves and male students scored higher in their school adaptation. The greatest factors affecting adaptation to school life were satisfaction of school life and stress respectively. Conclusion: Inpre-admission, enough information about nursing school life through experience of previous students must be given. Then, a school adaptation program which incorporates counseling and mentoring should be provided for supporting understanding of school life.
Objectives: The purpose of this study was to identify the degree of adaptation of dental hygiene department students to campus life, and to provide basic data to prepare management strategies for effective campus life adaptation. Methods: Three hundred students in the department of dental hygiene in Busan Metropolitan City and Gyeonggi Province were surveyed from October 1 to October 30, 2020 and 291 questionnaires were used in the final data analysis. Results: Better adaptation to campus life was observed in subjects who participated in club activities, possessed an extrovert personality, were well adapted to the dental hygiene department, and had no conflict in interpersonal relationships, thereby showing a significant difference. Regarding the factors affecting the degree of satisfaction with the department, the higher the degree of satisfaction in the major, excellence in major, and coping ability, the higher was the degree of satisfaction with the department. Conclusions: For effective campus life adaptation of the university students as a way to increase the degree of satisfaction with the department, increasing the ability to adapt to campus life through achievement of pride in the major and participation in various interpersonal activities is a possibility. It is necessary to develop a program to create an environment for good adaptation to campus life.
Purpose: This study attempted to identify correlation between communication skills, self-control, and adaptation to college life and identify how communication skills, self-control, and adaptation to college life influence factors influence clinical practice stress among health-related college students. Methods: Data for this study were collected through an online questionnaire for nine days from April 15, 2024, to April 23, 2024, targeting health-related college students nationwide who experienced clinical practice. Results: Clinical practice stress showed a significant negative correlation with communication skills(r=-.387, p<.001), self-regulation(r=-.355, p<.001), and adaptation to college life(r=-.433, p<.001). The factor that most influenced clinical practice stress was adaptation to college life, with an explanatory power of 20%. Conclusion: It is necessary to reduce stress in clinical practice by improving communication skills, self-control, and adaptation to college life through practical measures such as academic support services, psychological counseling, and major-related programs.
Purpose : This study investigated the effects of personality and sensory processing on college life adaptation in students majoring in occupational therapy. Methods : We conducted a survey study on 251 college students from March to May 2023. Personality, sensory processing, and college life adaptation were measured through the international personality item pool, adolescent/adult sensory profile, and student adaptation to college questionnaire, respectively. The general characteristics of students were analyzed using frequency analysis, and differences in college life adaptation and sensory processing characteristics were analyzed using independent t-tests and one-way ANOVA. The relationship between personality, sensory processing, and college life adaptation scores was analyzed using Pearson correlation analysis. The impact of personality and sensory processing on college life adaptation was analyzed using multivariate regression analysis using SPSS 25.0. Results : Correlations of all five personality factors, except openness to experience, were observed with students' college life adaptation. According to sensory processing characteristics, differences in college life adaption showed significant differences in sensory avoidance, poor registration, and sensory sensitivity. The variance of college life adaptation explained by each factor (based on R2) were 46% by personality and 26% by sensory processing. Among personality traits, neuroticism had a negative effect on college life adaptation, agreeableness and extroversion had positive effects, and low registration during sensory processing had a negative effect. Conclusion : This study suggests the provision of various activities and creation of an environment for college students with low sensory registration and neurotic traits to encourage positive changes. The results can be used to design a program that helps college students adapt to occupational therapy majors.
